Using the login in the lower left of the customer support page as ERNURSE suggested I was able to enter my DVDxCopy license number and recieve my platinum License number. I then recieved a confirmation link email and was able to download and activate platinum. It works fine so far. I did a test burn of Spiderman. I just need to play with it and figure out what it does.

A very satisfied customer

Even though is kind of hard to understand Lazarus, he is right... another thing that I didn't find is to tell it that the blank media is ready... I left it backing up and came back 2 hours later just to find it sitting waiting for me to for me to click on the button for it to start burning.

Could that be related to the garbage displayed on the "select your dvd writer" section???

I got platinum, something has to be missing if you click simple it goes into express, if you click advance nothing lights up, settings don't work either. Can anyone tell me what's the problem with platinum? Is an update coming soon? At this point you might is well just use express. Express 3.01 works wonderfully.

Well Good news here! I've been waiting for the past 4 months to "burn" a DVD, and nothing could read it. So, last night Platnium wouldn't read it either all the way through. So, I ran it through their new DVDX Rescue, and it WORKED!! WOW! So cool! I had no idea what to do, but to push Rescue, and it did just that! I now have a perfect back-up on a long waited DVD!
Thanks 321 for DVDX Rescue!

platinum does not work for me either, I am trying dvd rescue as we speak, and it is working on a damaged dvd I bought from wherehouse video before they shut down (they would not exchange or take it back) anyway, rescue have been recovering this disc for the last 2 hours. I hope it works

Yes, Rescue does take a couple of hours to "rescue" the movie, but it was well worth the wait for me!
Good luck with it!

I'm only posting on my experience with Rescue. I found that DVDX Express, and DVDXCopy would not read certain "sectors" in the "ripping" process. Therefore it could not rip nor burn. However, if I ran it though Rescue, it was able to rip all of it, then burn it. The process is lengthy, but definitely worth the wait. Here is the copy and paste from the product itself:

DVD X RESCUE is an amazing breakthrough that recovers lost data from DVDs or CDs. Don't throw away your favorite movie because of skips, don't trash your favorite CD because it's scratched and won't play, or lose precious photos or data. DVD X Rescue will easily recover, restore, and rescue virtually any lost data and burn it to a new DVD/CD.

Very easy to use - simply insert your damaged disc and DVD X Rescue will automatically analyze it and begin the repair. Desperately searching for your 1999 tax file? Simply drag it onto your hard drive. Favorite DVD movie locks up because your dog used it for frisbee? Rescue it and make a new copy on a fresh DVD!

Features
Recovers data from unreadable, scratched, corrupt, or defective CD, CD-R, CD RW, DVD, DVD R, DVD RW discs
Detects deleted or corrupted files
Recovers data created by disc writing software
Copies sectors for low level recovery
Works with all common PC formats - even Macintosh!
Analyzes the quality and readability of discs
Resumes recovery after interruption
Provides exam speed / thoroughness balancing
Repairs movie DVDs, Music CDs, Data discs, photo discs
Now you can:
Rescue and repair damaged discs
Restore data DVDs and DVD movies
Restore data CDs and audio CDs

To All:

I've been playing with platinum since last nught, and here's what i can tell you folks:

I was able to make perfect copies in both simple and advanced mode. The simple is Xpress, so no surprise here, but the meat is in the advanced, so here goes:

1-The browse button to select files on your hard drive is grayed out, I still can't figure it out.

2-You have to select one of the dark square next to the title sets, then the buttons will light up. IN the compression box, if unselected, it will turn to Splitting. to see the preview, highlight the titleset. I still can't get this feature to work, all I get is a black screen.

3-Initially, it wouldn't recognize my drive. I clicked the drive select button, et voila! It took 17minutes to read and 16minutes to copy Femme Fatale.

4-No question the software is buggy, an unfinished product. This ugly main screen, totally blank, and the lack of a help file should tell you something. But now I can understand why RH Moore said he was unhappy with the product. But I love 321Studios, and I know that eventually, they will get it right.

Thanks NurseER :) I'll go give it a try now, I have a music CD that is badly scratched, actually, I have several :( my Music CD Collection is over 300 disc all in a wallet, kept in the car lol so imagine how badly some of them are... I really doubt this will do anything since the scratch is on the actual data part, not the clear coat at the bottom ;( well, thanks anyways!!!

Post back with results of the rescue plz. I have been wanting to test it but I have no disk with dmg to do it with. Am thinking of causing drastic dmg to one of my old movies that is only worthy of the trash can so I can test it myself. The time frame could be very long for rescue depending on the dmg to the disk. I want to test it with a disk that is unreadable in both set top players as well as comp dvd. Is your dmg disk unreadable or just big problems on it.

In a post some where else several weeks ago, I read where "Rescue" could take up to 18 hours to accomplish its task(s) depending upon the severity of detected damage !!! I'm sure a lot also depends on many other factors including (but not limited to) ... CPU speed, available memory, speed of DVD reader(s), media type, other tasks running, etc, etc.

So I'd be inclined to "let it go" ........ ;^)

For a better description about XRescue, go to the section "Chatting with the President), page 11, 13-Aug from Mr Moore. Good description and he sets the "expectations"....

A severely damaged dvd can take a week or more to fully recover. DXR simply keeps trying the read over and over agian. You can set how many attempts you want it to try.

It might be worth re-purchasing a severely damaged dvd. But if that dvd is irreplaceable, then DXR is there as a tool.

Dvd x rescue is still going since 7 pm last night, it is now sunday 2 pm, it says 543.30 bytes to copy and 1696.58 time remaining. This is a new disc I tried to watch and when it got almost to the end where the real action was about to happen it jumped from there to the end to the critic

I will just wait to see what it does

i sent an email to 321 tech support regarding platinum. i got it loaded, it did the read step, but would not recognize the blank dvd and the gray start button would not turn green. i got a 7 page reply that lists a whole bunch of things to try.

my question before i start doing these suggestions- has anyone else gotten this email and tried these fixes? and did it work? i am a bit reluctant to just go in and do these (delete programs, change msconfig, etc) since i had zero problems with dvd xcopy or with the xpress trial version.

thanks for any and all suggestions.

i have dell dimension xps 8100, pIII, 384 ram, 1 ghz, XP SP1, matshita dvd-ram LF-D310, ritek dvd-r media and primedisc dvd-r.

hollygirl,

Yes, please share those ideas for getting Platinum to recognize a blank DVD. Maybe some of them will work for some of us. Right now, this program is useless to me because of this problem.

321 Studios seems to infer that Platinum may have been released a little early because "people were screaming for it". It seems to be the old story of put the blame on the consumer. If there's any truth at all to that, I suspect that all the sceaming for the new program was because of the (false) hope that the bugs in DVDXCopy & XCopyXpress had been fixed in Platinum. Right now, I have a program that doesn't do compression, one that chokes on compressing certain discs (the infamous 99% problem) and one that won't recognize that a blank DVD is in the writer. I cetainly wasn't screaming for Platinum. All I was hoping for was a little further development on the programs I had already bought. All for only $119.99. And yes, after 18 weeks, I'm still waiting for that $20. rebate.

i would be glad to share the email i got from 321 re: getting platinum to recognize the blank disc. i have gotten several private emails, but for some reason, i cannot open the private emails.

the email i got is pretty long. i don't know if it is too long to copy here, but here goes:

Blacklist

The following programs can cause problems while using our software. Your situation sounds like one of these are installed:

1. B's Clip: This Program has packet writing applications and also tries to control the burner. To remove you must go to Add or Remove Programs in your control panel. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.

2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. To remove them you need to do to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to change, not remove. Then you must click next until it gives you the option to modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click next and while the program may look like it is installing, it is removing those options. One thing to remember is that both Direct CD and Drag to Disk will not be installed at the same time. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
3. GoBack: backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) this needs not only to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this means the customer will loose all their old restore points, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantecís web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
4. HP DLA: DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment and interferes with DVDXCopy or DVDXCopy Xpress accessing the dvd burner. After removing this in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, the computer should be rebooted. For more information, check the HP website at http://www.hp.com/
5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. This can sometimes be removed via Add or Remove Programs in control panel, but sometimes it converts to a TSR (Terminate and Stay Ready) and has to be removed from task manager. To open Task Manager, hit the ctrl, alt and delete keys at the same time, then click task manager Then InCD must be found under processes and ended there. For more information go to Neroís website at http://www.nero.com/en/
6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that can be installed off of the DVD movies themselves. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. Then the 321 studios software needs to be un-install, the 321 studios file folder deleted, the computer rebooted, the 321 Studios software re-installed. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Then whenever the customer is attempting to burn, McAfee needs to be disabled. For more info go to McAfeeís website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic update should be shut down via the Task Manager. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Then whenever the customer is attempting to burn, Norton Anti-Virus needs to be disabled. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
9. Ulead: This program has an integrated drag to disk option. It should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. Then the 321 studios software needs to be un-install, the 321 studios file folder deleted, the computer rebooted, the 321 Studios software re-installed. The web site for Ulead is http://www.ulead.com/
10. Veritas DLA: This program uses Disk Letter Assignment for backup purposes. Just the DLA portion needs to be removed, which cane be done in Add or Remove Programs in control panel. After removing the software the computer should be rebooted. The Veritas website is http://www.veritas.com/

Spyware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-Aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com

If you perform any of these changes, please make sure to fully uninstall your copy of our software delete the 321studios folder in the program files directory shut down and reboot twice and then reinstall our software.

ASPI Update

Please install ASPI V4.7 from this link:

ftp://products.321studios.com/5776/ASPI/aspi_v470.exe

ForceASPI is a file that should help.

If you have a newer copy of the 321 Studios disk, the ForceASPI file is contained inside the Tools folder on the CD.
If it is not in the Tools folder on the CD, here's a link to download the file: ftp://products.321studios.com/5776/ASPI/ForceASPI.exe
After installing the ForceASPI file, then double click on the pink icon that it puts on your desktop , and follow the directions.
It should make you restart if installed correctly.
If you are having difficulties downloading make sure you have windows firewall disabled. This can be foun
If that does not help, you probably need to go to the manufacturer's website, and update the drivers for your ROM drive.
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverindex.html

Correct ForceASPI Install
Did the ForceASPI file make you restart after installing it? If not then run the pink icon that should now be on your desktop.
If that doesn't help, then you probably need to go to the manufacturer's website, and update the drivers for your ROM drive.

*****If the ftp links do not work go to ftp://products.321studios.com and login using your license id and password, go to folder 5776 and then ASPI******

MsConfig

Certain programs running in the background can use system resources and cause our software to experience burning issues.
To disable your start up group go to start, run, and type in msconfig and hit enter, then click on the startup tab.

Windows XP(Home & Pro):
If you are running Windows XP you will click the disable all button.

Windows Me:
If you are running Windows Me disable all items that are not Windows system processes.

Windows 98:
If you are running Windows 98 disable all items except for Systray and Explorer.

Windows 2000:
Windows 2000 does not have this utility please make sure to close all programs through your system tray.

Play the Movie

Make sure that you shut off everything else that you can, including the screen saver, when you start the process.

1) Play the movie for 2-3 minutes.
2) Start up our software while the movie is still playing.
3) If you are using Dvd X Copy, go to the STREAM PROCESSING tab, and check the option to ENABLE STREAM PROCESSING. You will see a list of options, make sure that the first two options are checked and uncheck the rest. Proceed in ripping the DVD. *This option will not be available nor is it necessary in Express*
4) Choose the target folder that you want to rip into.
5) Click on the start button
6) Shut off the movie

If none of this helps, you probably need to go to the manufacturer's website, and update the drivers for your ROM drive.
