I want to get a DVD burner that will work with DVDXCopy Platinum. Can anyone here comment on their success with specific burners?

Also, is Sony coming out with 8X drives anytime soon? Is Plextor the only 8X drive out now. Has anyone else announced release of 8x drives?

Thank you

The new 8x DVDRW drives may sound great but trying to make a backup of a movie at 8x you will most likely have problems,as many do at 4x.It would be good for Data Files though. You will see many posts about using the slower burn at 2x for a better quality and minimize errors.Using my DVDROM & a HP 200i DVDRW @2x backup can be achieved in less than a hour.

I don't see the model #,but here are the spcs.

Sony 8x DVD writer specs:
DVD+R write speed: 8x (Z-CLV)
DVD+RW write speed: 4x (CLV)
DVD-R write speed: 4x (CLV)
DVD-RW write speed: 2x (CLV)
CD-R write speed: 40x (Z-CLV)
CD-RW write speed: 24x (Z-CLV)
DVD-ROM read speed: 12x (CAV)
CD-ROM read speed: 40x (CAV

As you see, looks very much like the Plextor specs.Might be the same drive, rebadged.
