Wasup tagers? Sorry for not being around as of late been real busy. Will prob be real busy for a while yet. I just did t2 extreme with plat and all is well it gets the extra 16 or so minutes plays in all my settop players. That was the only movie I have had a problem with so was the one I used for testing. Got a bit more playing to do with plat and then of to bed. I will try not to be gone so long anymore.

here is something that I was told early this morning over the phone by at 321 support supervisor Jace ,anyone that was with 321 studios before jan 1st 2003 will have to send in an invoice to them before you will get your platinum license.
there are 8 million stories in 321 studios and today you are hearing another one

Here's another story- the fourth or fifth version I've been told- anyone who bought platinum, get to see the download first. Everyone eligible for the upgrade have to wait as numbers are inputted- once in- either e-mail sent or you see number for activation and download (as some are seeing) if you sign in at download area. But, because so many to input- could be till NEXT FRIDAY before get notification. Kinda' sucks, in my opinion- should have been handled way better- now I gotta wait a week to see if I even get an e-mail? signed, 'one unhappy camper'- igortwo
p.s. noticed 2 private messages i sent never went anywhere- not a good sign!

dpsmith,

Not trying to shoot the messenger here but that makes absolutely no sense. I can log on using my e-mail/license ID for either x-copy or xpress and pull up the order details of when I origninally purchased X-Copy from 321 in December of 2002.

Perhaps, she meant that if you bought it at $99 from a retail store you would have to send in an invoce as proof of purchase.

*shrug*

To the other points being made about License IDs. Yes...I agree since the inputting of License IDs was not a critical path item, they could/should have been ready prior to Platinum release. That said, companies grow and learn just like people do. I bet the next major release goes much smoother.

ta,
rwr

p.s. No..I'm not being magnanimous because I'm one of the lucky few who have received my License ID ;-) I'm still bumming in the wilderness with all the rest of yous ;-P

Just a lot of VERY impatient people I guess.

It will be there for everyone who's entitled.

I know it's like a kid in the candy store with no money, but GOOD things come to those who wait !!

While most of us still have not gotten our hands on Platinum or the necessary License ID's, some of you lucky folks are already enjoying the new toy. May I suggest we start a Platinum section in the Forum, like those for DXC and DXCX, where you guys can start reporting failures/success?

That may actually calm people down as they will see the program has a lot of potential yet to be realized. Even Mr. Moore said that it'll be a couple of versions before it gets to the point he'd like. Those of you with the program can start reporting bugs, suggestions, etc and those of us waiting in the wings can atone our expectations for the great product.

And please people, cut the 321 Staff some slack here. I'm sure all of us complain when people get on our cases about problems we can't remedy right away, so why do that to others?

just my 2 cents yo

While I may agree with you this quote sounds like someone who already has platinum.

drb,

I do have it already, but only used it once and only used the "Simple" option.

This software is NOT some saviour of the Earth !! It's a simple software program.

Ok... I logged in and nothing on my account yet, so before bitching and complaining like most of you are, I decided to read the forum, for the last 30 minutes I read almost all posts related to the issue... now this is my 2cents. you own the movies, so why are you in such a hurry to get a new version out? I mean, this is not the same case as to when the software first came out, back in nov. of last year, I was so excited and impatient but now, I now what the software will do, I'll just be patient, I'll wait till next week until bandwith is cleared.

so to all of you complaining and bitching about 321 not being ready to handle the release of platinum, calm down, and if you feel YOU NEED to back up your movies because they will all self destroy the next time you touch them, well, do not touch them until you have the software in your hands. Go take a walk in the park, do something progressive.

Until then, they should close down the forum :) and shut down all the support phone lines... I bet many here would have heart attacts, I bet they will consider it worst than the Northern East Coast Black out we just had lol...

Hi,

I haven't posted here before though I am an XCopy Gold user. I have read with interest all of your posts and those of Robert Moore.

Though I would appreciate an upgrade quickly, I personally have no immediate use for it and so I can wait. However, the responses of the moderators and Robert Moore are less than confidence building.

As background and so you understand that I know of what I speak, I have been in this business for close to 20 years. I have managed several mammoth web development efforts for major computer manufacturers and ecommerce retail sites, one of the largest vertical portal's development and operations (which is still supported by advertising revenue and is profitable), and also network operations for one of the two broadband cable modem ISP's in the U.S. I have been a programmer, sysadmin, DBA, program manager, and filled a few other roles prior to becoming an executive and have always maintained a hands-on approach.

321 is to be applauded for their positive customer support, except for the few inconsistancies in their responses, but what has happened with this release, if it had occurred on my watch, would have resulted in at least a few terminations. If qualified personnel are running a production environment and distribution network, there is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for downtime or failure to fulfill commitments made to customers. It's clear that 321 has some technical issues in one or more of the following areas:

1 - Database Administration - It should have been a simple matter of one query to batch update all those who are entitled to an update. Though not optimal, this could easily at the same time have sent an email indicating where and how to download.

2 - System Administration - EXTREMELY unlikely for multiply redundant server farms to go down at once, as was explained, without some technical incompetance involved. Also, either or both a 3rd party email distribution network (can handle millions of messages sent per day) and digital distribution network (e.g. Akamai) could easily handle all distribution immediately with zero slowdown or customer frustration.

3 - Content Management - Updates on what is going on should be on the primary web site and updated several times per day so the same question is not asked repeatedly and CSR's can do their real job of helping out with the product.

4 - Configuration Management - There was a comment made by Robert about synchronizing the servers taking time. For the OS, DBMS, etc this should be simple and merely involve reimaging. For the content, web code, product, etc this is easily handled by automated push through a competant CM mechanism.

It appears there are several failures in (or total lack of) process in one or more of these areas. This is not difficult to fix but the will and expertise in running large ecomm businesses has got to be there since without those, any number of "come to Jesus" meetings will not rectify the failures in process.

Let me know if you need any help...

David

David- you voice everything I don't have the expertise or experience to say myself. Thanks.
I have usually been pretty satisfied with 321 support; and I don't have a critical need for the Platinum upgrade. But, as you point out; the point isn't how impatient people are with the delay- for me it's the slow response and multiple explanations of what the problem was that I encountered when calling support, and a long promised delivery date that didn't happen.
I know that 321 is under attack in Europe now, and the long current legal fight in the states; but that is a separate issue completely and should be seperated from any response as to why this fiasco has occurred.
Now I read that people who ordered Platinum will get an extra program. I don't need this extra- but why are they being rewarded when those of us who 'bought in' in late 2002/early 2003 are left out. Sort of feels like a slap in the face, so to speak.
Okay- I vented, feel a little better- and will hope I get an e-mail. But still...

Maybe 321 Studios should change their motto from "NOW YOU CAN" to "NO, I STILL CAN'T".

I hate this being the first message I post, but it helps control the frustration.

Speaking of controlling frustration, why is everyone surprised that the type of customer that would be attracted to DVDXCopy (geeks, nerds and techies) in the first place, would not be anxious to get at a major software update.

They should have been better prepared.
