Hi There !

I have the following problem with DVD X Copy Express v2.0.1, I hope someone a bit wiser can offer some help.
I've made some good backups, but now I keep getting the following message when writing the DVD. (The reading part goes without problems)

ERROR(WriteSector) Failed: Code 05 27 00 [Illegal request, CD is write protected]

This message appears after about 10 seconds or so and is preceded by:
"00406560: Writing Movie:0
00406560: Writing Movie:0
00406560: Writing Movie:0
00406560: Writing Movie:0
00406560: Writing Movie:0
00406560: Writing Movie:3
00406560: Writing Movie:3
00406560: Writing Movie:3
00406560: Writing Movie:3
00406560: Writing Movie:3
00406560: Writing Movie:3"

The backup is not made, and another blank DVD is wasted ..

I have made no changes in my config, nor have I updated anything...

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks!
hmm, I just saw there's another lefty around here, sorry 'bout that..

LEFTY,
Why are you useing dvdr's,test with dvdrw.....
i want you to tell us are you able to reburn a movie you did b-4.......
and some facts on your computer, burner,if your computer is set to plo or dma,on which ide cable are your dvd and hard drive, which are master and which are slave,

to set to pio or dma go to device mgr,
Look for IDE ATE/ATAPT CONTROLERS,
GO TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY IDE CHANNEL,
ADVANCED SETTING ON BOTH,
LOOK AT TRANSFER MOD-if set to pio change to dma for both...

Check if the movie is a episode movie, xpress has problems burning those type of movies....

Hi Ireland,

Tx 4 reaction and the rw-hint, it didnt cross my mind, but now I've found one. :P

Further I can tell you that I was able to reburn a movie I did before. It went ok the second try. After that I tried another dvd, and it went bad the 2nd time too. (I burned that one succesful with Nero though).

Ehhh, i'm not too technical, but here goes ..

I run WinXP-pro-UK, on an Athlon 2600+, ASUS
Type A7N8X-Deluxe motherboard with an HP DVD300i (+)DVD-burner.
Hard drive and dvd-burner are on different ide's.
I'm not sure whether my computer is set on plo or dma, or how to find out ..

I hope this info helps !

LeFtY,
Have you made any changes to the directory that you use as the temp location?

Maybe the "Read Only" flag was checked..

You may try making a new folder on your hard drive to use as the temp location for DXCX and point the program to the new folder in the Options.

Then try the back-up again and see if that makes any difference.

Also, until we get the problem figured out, you should be using RW disks for the burns so that you do not waste more disks.

That can get expensive. But it will not be if you use RW while still having the problems.

Tx 4 reaction !

I did indeed change the temp-folder and the read-only was flagged. I removed it and tried another backup, and that one worked fine.

So, i'm gonna try some more, and i'll let you know the results.

I have successfully backed up 3 movies so far, but when I back up 40 days and 40 Nights, the program freezed with about 1:19 to 1:38 left to go. I ran it three times and it simply will not back up the movie. Anybody got any suggestions.

I had the exact same problem when I tried to back-up 40 Days and 40 Nights myself. I think this disc has some kind of encoding that is preventing the complete read.

I have been using Xpress to back-up movies for some tim now with great success. Unfortunately, the last several movies I've tried to back-up (The Pianist & Bad Company) fail half way through Step 1. I haven't installed anything new on my PC or made any changes since my last successful copy?!?

I tried removing the program and rinstalling but still have the same problem!

Can anyone help?

saturnkk,

Have you tried the read with your DVD Writer and and not the DVD ROM drive. Not sure how you are doing it but assuming you read with the Creative & Write with the Pioneer

Yes your assumption is correct (Creative to read Pioneer to write)

No I haven't tried that, but it was never an issue in the past...

By te way, Xcopy worked fine on Bad Company except that I had to use an extra disc!
Try not. Do or do not. There is no try...

saturnkk,
Some of the time, the read will go through in the burner when it wouldn't go through inthe DVD-ROM.

Your DVD Burner will have much better error handling than the DVD-ROM will, so it will allow you to read through the problem areas of the disk. (which are usually due to copy protection)
