Quote:srt4,
I had the same problem you had with Xp and the same motherboard. I posted this before that the nForce drivers 2.03 and 2.42 work, but not 2.41
The problem is nVidia's IDE controller driver. Go to nVidia's website and dl the 2.03 drivers and try it again.
Thanks everyone....especially Maltese. That was the problem. Now Xpress works like a charm...thanks a lot. :)

321_Q/A, I did a complete system restore (to original factory condition), then updated XP Home, installed DXCX 2.0.1 and tried backing up Forrest Gump. As before I am able to watch the backup on the burner but not on my standalone JVC XVS60. At this point I am feeling very dejected. Should I try returning my burner (Ikebana DVD +R/+RW) and try getting a -R/-RW burner? By the way I did not install any software that came with the burner (B's Recorder Gold, B's CLiP 5 packet Writing software) other than PowerDVD.

nyer,
Is the "Ikebana DVD +R/+RW" on the list of supported burners?
I have not tested that type of burner, so I doubt that it is on the list, but I could be wrong.
If possible, I would return the drive and get one that is on the list.
It may very well be able to work with the software, but we know that the ones on the list will work for sure, and if it doesn't, we can sometimes suggest things that will fix the problem pretty quickly.
If exchanging it is not possible, then we can continue trying different things until we get either get it working, or run into a show stopper.

If the movie plays in your DVD-ROM or burner, and/or a PlayStation, there's a very good chance the issue issimply a compatibility issue with your JVC player. 2.01 is want to play in some players, particularly Toshibas. A lot of us find better player compatibility with 2.0. If I were you I'd try 2.0. Fact is the only difference as far as I'm concerned is that 2.0 buns seem to play in everything and 2.01 do not.
Also, it IS possible the JVC won't like +R/+RW, but you may just not even have to go there if it turns out 2.0 resolves your problem.

:( Guess I've spoken too soon...damn. I get no error for the whole process. It says burn successful but when I try to play the dvd it stays stuck on the DVD backup warning screen and stays there. The dvd doesn't respond. I have to unplug my dvd player to remove the dvd lol...Anyone has seen this before?

srt4,
It may not seem like it, but this is a good thing man! You are making some progress. The problem may have been caused by more than one thing, so at least now, there are no errors, and we can move on and figure out the rest.
Will the disk play in your computer?
What disks are you using to burn with?

Yes it plays perfect with PowerDVD. I'm using maxell DVD-R.
What I find weird is that I also use another software and made copies with the same DVD-R and they play perfectly in the same DVD player so I'm kind of puzzled.

321_Q/A: Is there a list of supported burners? I should have looked at that before I purchased the burner. I can return the Ikebana since I am within 15 days of purchase and I have all the original documents.
nickicap: I tried 2.0, but that created the same problem. Is there a list of supported stand alone DVD players?
I am not certain about the following (shall confirm it later) butI think DXCX is not finalizing the DVD. Previously that process used to take a few seconds, but lately I have not seen that on the screen. It could be that I am not looking closely. Anyone ever see this?

Player support, is a VERY long winded subject that goes much farther than you're thinking. It's not simply an issue of I burn, it plays. The variables are almost endless. THEN, you add to that the mere little fact that the motion pitcure industry wants to see this whole thing die... If you have a player 18 months old or older, you probably will have some compatibility issues with burnable media. Certain brands and certain players within brands and even certain generations of the same exact model exhibit different compatiblity characterstics. Without boring the hell out of you, if you live near a Best Buy, go buy a Sony 325, test your burns, and return the player. That player will just about play anything (and I hate Sony, per se...)
There are variables with media, firmware on both the burner and player, procedural issues with how you process backup, issues related to nuances of your PC, and on and on. There's tons of chatter on the subject in threads for 1.4 and 1.5 if you've got an extra couple days to read it all.
On the subject of finalizing the burn; my Toshiba closes the disc in two seconds, my Sony takes three minutes. Go figure. Why the difference? Must be in the spec since Toshiba is -R and Sony +R. If you like, you can send most any of the regulars here one of your burns and we can try it in our players, if you don't want or can't go to a store with liberal return policies.
Last thing, are you using Gear or Nero? Have you checked the burn logs to see if there are any notes about your concerns that the disc isn't being finalized?

Finally I found time for a couple minutes of concentration! Yep, it works. I went back to the 2.0 version, backed up Blackhawk Down on the Memorex +RW and the toshiba 2800 will play it beautifully. Thank you very much! No problems what-so-ever in the playback, it is great! I am just glad that at this advanced age I remembered to find time to concentrate! lol

Actually, coming up is my big 50th...and so I am taking myself to Brazil for a treat... so I guess some parts of getting old are quite okay with me... still I do wish we could at least keep the hearing and the vision. lol... keep up all the good work here. Great bunch of people to keep me laughing throughout this whole process.

Another post to prove Nickicap's point.....Yesterday I reported that my settop Toshiba SD-K510 would not playback DXCX 2.0.1 (freeze on initial screen), the Pioneer DVD-ROM was not happy, but the burner and the settop Toshiba SD-3900 played back without any problem... Not satisfied with half a loaf, I then took Nickicap's advice and reverted to DXCX 2.0, and as hoped, the 2.0 backups play on everything in the house. Just thought I would report the success, and perhaps offer some hope to Nyer and Srt4. Thanks Nickicap!
