Problem with the trim function

I've been capturing my VHS tapes with a WinFast TV PVR 2000 Deluxe and using XMaker to convert them to DVD. I forgot the time when I was capturing a tape last night, and ended up with an extra 30 minutes of capture. No sweat, I'll use the trim function in XMaker and cut out the last 30 minutes. When I went to the edit screen, the "trim" function was greyed out (on top), and there were no trim icons on any of the screens (that I could find). I've been capturing in DVD-NTSC compliant MPEG-2 (variable bit rate, target bit rate 6000). Do I have to capture in a different format (AVI?) to be able to trim the video? I searched for an hour, and checked the help files, but have been unable to activate the trim function. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
