I physically disconnected my secondary device (DVD RAM Gma-4020B). Left my primary recording device attached (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 103)Started computer, Platinum - everything now works, simple and advanced and completed burns which play on everything I have tried them on. DVD-R or DVD-RW makes no difference.
Thanks to everyone who pointed the way.

Having a weird problem. I can copy movies with Platinum, but whenever I try to watch the movies on my stand alone DVD Player. I get alot of pauses and skips. I have a Zenith DVB312. But if I watch the movies on my Dell with InterVideo4, no problem. No skips or pauses. The media Maxwell, Memorex 4X, and Imation, all are DVD+RW. Also it seems I have to copy a movie about 3 to 4 times to get it to work on my Zenith, without the pauses or stops. But it might work today and start the pausing and stops when I try to watch the movie another day.

Is there a Stand alone DVD Player that is truely pure DVD+RW compatible? Or a player that is very compatible with DVD+RW media?

Or could the problem be with the type of media that I'm using that my Stand alone player is having a problem with?

Is it a problem with platinum?

Anyone else have a problem trying to burn Evil Dead II? In Platinum the read process starts and locks up at 2%. If I try to use DVD X Rescue, I get a complete read, but no burn process? So far this is the only disc I've had trouble with. Anyone have a clue on this?

Hi! I tried burning a couple of movies and two of my memorex DVD+RW are unreadable, I tried checking the disc with Roxio and DVD X Rescue, but both say disc are blank but are unreadable. I can't even copy to the disc. They are brand new. Any advice.

Thanks, on the info about the Sony, I'll go check it out.

I was one of the fortunate ones with horrendous problems with platinum.I write this in case it is of use to others.
I came to the conclusion that the problems arroused from 4 possible causes, and I will discuse them here:

1-pioneer dvd recorder
2-easy cd creator
3-aspi layer
4-patin couffin engine

1- there is an incompatibility for some reason with this drives, when more than one writer is installed in the same computer(for the program to recognize the blank media, put it first in the pioneer, then in the other drive, even if it is a cd writer, then back in the pioneer, and voilį! it is recognized from then on)

2-easy cd creator puts it“s own aspi layer in the machine that ruins everything, I tried the latest aspi layer from adaptec and it was a disaster, the good one is ASPI32 layer v4.60, unfortunately when you put this aspi layer , easy cd don“t recognize your drives anymore, solution: loading easy cd again? frankly I haven“t tried it.
(after all the problems I don“t want to risk platinum not working again)

3- the latest aspi(ver 4.7.....)messed everything up in my computer, fortunatelly our friend chris mccann(he has a page that has an adress in this forum)warned about it and voilį!(again)it did the trick! this layer works perfectly.

4-the pattin couffin engine seems to be sort of experimental and conflicts with itself(it doesn“t always errase old versions)

besides the "experimental" 1.15 version did the trick for me.I first installed the vso drivers(ver 1.15) rebooted, installed platinum, rebooted, reinstalled platinum without rebooting and without allowing it to install rescue again. I closed everything and did a manual reboot. voilį! (finally)
IT WORKED!!!!!

I hope this is of use to brotherly souls in grief.

scottyb, Try reading a post on page 52 of this thread by wmcdowel (26 Sep 2003 10:25 AM). See if that helps. Other people have posted similar fixes using Nero to finalize. I hope this helps.

Platinum is a piece of crap and never should have been released. What happened to weekly updates? If you guys really want to CLONE your DVD collection I highly recommend different, and cheaper software.

This will probably be edited or deleted by the 321 Gestapo, er, Mods.

I see nothing wrong with voicing your opinion, and you did not violate any forum rules. I have not, and have never edited any of your posts.

As for the insult you so vehemently said to me, I see no reason why you should take such an attitude. If you wish to continue with unfounded insults to me (as a mod, and the #1 Rag-Tag), please do so in PMs. I really doubt anyone else cares to read about your ravings.

If you wish to rant about the software, there is a very easily located thread for rants.

H_P_D,
Gestapo?
That's pretty harsh, don't you think? Nobody had edited your post so far..

The only reasons why a post will be edited is if it breaks a rule of the Forum, or if the post is just too long.

I do not edit posts because they have bad things to say about the software. You are entitled to your opinion, and I don't want to hide any opinions from the public, good or bad.

If you send me your License ID and email address, and I can do whatever is necessary to get you up and running.

If you are that unhappy with the software though, I can get the ball rolling on a refund as well.

Let me know in a PM what you wish to do.

abductee,

That is not a problem.

Platinum was not designed to make copies of copies.

TRUE or FALSE:

1. Mods on this forum are highly paid for what they do and therefore must be capable of absorbing insults.

2. Only dvd copying software from 321Studios have problems, others do not.

3. There is as much support for other dvd copying software as there is for XCopy products.

4. A dvd is a dvd (a rose by any other name)so therefore if you can copy one, you should be able to copy any.

5. Platinum simply doesn't work at all.

6. Negative comments relative to this software are not allowed on the forum.

If you answered "YES" to any of the above statements, then you just don't understand the complexity of the problem and how the forum mods operate. Indeed, Platinum has problems, but they are being addressed. Everyone has alternatives if they are not satisfied. Work with those willing to help or request a refund. Adversarial criticism helps no one.

Hi Boys,
Sorry I could not give you a update sooner. I was up in Canada to pick up a new DVD+RW (Plextor PX-504A [FutureShop sale price of CDN$300]). I also picked up some DVD+Rz [Memorex] for CDN$1.5 each. Exactly half what I paid for the same on my last visit.

Anyway, the Plextor recorder is now inside my Dell and my DVD burning with Plat. is back to what it was with the old DXC and DXCX. I'm a happy camper now. Thank you, you darling boys... , and sorry also to toolman18 for doubting you. I think the problems I was having before had to do with my old burner being a external, as many of you pointed out. Anyway, I am backing up my DVDz without any problems - NO COASTERS SO FAR!!. But I am worried about the other boys out there who have external drives. I hope Mr. Moore will solve their problem very soon.

I have seen how dissenters are treated here. Posts are edited all of the time on this forum. There is no free speech or even a proper exchange of ideas.

Your mods are overbearing and delete happy. You know it and so does everyone else. I'll have to decline your request for my lisence id and password. Notice how as soon as someone has the gall to dissent a 321 representative wants my personal information?

Why do you all suppose that is? Why does he need my lisence id and password to diagnose my software?

As it stands now all you can do is inactivate my user name, and I can live with that type of retrobution. Sure would hate to see my limited number of activations taken away because I ruffled someone's feathers.

I don't care whether you see any reason for my attitude or not. I never singled you out by name. It seems to me that thou doth protest too much!

I also don't care what number Rag Head you are. What difference does that make to me? You throw your Rag Head number around like it should carry some weight with me. It most certainly does not.

And after reading rather dilligently through this froum I can promise there are many people here who care about what I have to say. This forum is filled with happy users, is that it?

Does everyone notice how I am being attacked? Does it not bother you that Rag Head #1 only tries to discredit me and make it appear as if I am a ranting lunatic? And heaven forbid, lets not post any of this in the forum.

Let's keep it all in PM's. Let's keep it secret.

What do you all will think will happen when 321 drops this forum and runs their own? Why are they dropping this forum and starting their own? It's all about control. Things will only be worse.

There is no need to deactivate me, I am out of here.

H_P_D,
Please do not use this forum to fight. Make your point in a civilized manner. You sound like one of those Palastenian terrorist with your rantings. As I always say, MAKE LOVE NOT WAR. So try to curb your hateful enthusisam.
This is my loving advice to you. I love you. So please love all others.

Agonykat - in an attempt to read between the lines - um, are you incouraging this individual to create more of himself? Perish the thought!
