I installed the new 1.15 driver but still had the same results when I tried to burn the movie 'Identity' to a 2.4X +R media. It did not finalize the dvd and I had to go to dvd decrypter to finalize. I was able to back up my new 'Animal House' dvd to a dvd 1x -R, but of course this is what I could do witht he 1.14 driver. So it did not change my situation as far as the '+' media goes. Hope you have better luck if you install that new driver.

Add me to the list of those who have solved the problem of "Simple" mode not engaging the burn engine. I too have a cd-rw drive on the same IDE cable as my Sony DRU-500A and the start button would never light up after the rip in simple mode only. I read on this thread about uninstalling the cd-rw drive before opening Platinum and it worked for me!
Now the only problem I am having is that I have to use +r media for my Sony PS2 to recognize compressed discs.
When I use -r the PS2 gets stuck on the read disc section and never recognizes the DVD. The problem isn't there with +r media. The -r discs will work in my Sony stand alone DVD player though.

The saga with being able to burn
DVD-R/W's but not DVD-R's continues; I downloaded and installed the latest coufin driver, was able to burn one DVD-R, the next was unplayable! In despair I uninstalled Platinum, rebooted, and reinstalled the original version of X-copy and it won't burn a readable DVD-R either. Any ideas?

Are you running at least service pack 4? If not or your not sure go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx and check some of them out. I haven't ran 2000 for so long I cant remember what each one is but many that run 2000 are members here so maybe some them can tell you which is best.

Concerning active start button in simplemode.
I am using win98se and a Liteon 32123 cd-burner. My Toshiba SD-R5002 dvd-burner is master on sec.IDE and my liteon is slave on sec.IDE.
Drive select showed both my burners.
Could it be a problem just for liteon cd-burners ?

go to device manager then cd/dvd roms click the + chose the device to disable and right click it and there is an option there to disable it.

I use win98se and does not have the disable option in device manager,and It didnīt help disabeling it in bios. I had to pull out the power connector at the back of the drive.

go to control panel then system then there is tabs at top of that window choose hardware. then about halfway down will see button for device manager.
O yeah I forgot a shortcut is to right click on my computer choose properties then will see the window with the tabs then start from choose hardware from above. there are a couple other ways to get there but you get the jest.

WILL BURN IN [ADVANCE MODE] USING [PCOUFFIN 1.14 AND 1.15]. IN THE [SIMPLE MODE]WILL NOT BURN WITH ANY ENGINE [1.12.2.0, 1.14, 1.15] WITH [1.12.2.0] YOU CANNOT SELECT DRIVE BUT YOU CAN WITH [1.14] OR [1.15]. WITH [1.14] AND [1.15] SOMETIMES IT WILL BURN ONLY THE FBI AND 321 WARNING SCREENS MOST OF TIME NOTHING. ALWAY GET ["BURN COMPLETED SUCESSFULLY"].
[DVD EXPRESS 2.5.2]
ONLY WORKS WITH BURN ENGINE [1.12.2.0.]
[CONCLUSION]
321 NEEDS TO EITHER FIND A BURN ENGINE TO WORK WITH BOTH, SIMPLE AND PLATINUM OR REWRITE PROGRAM TO USE 2 DIFFERENT BURN ENGINES, ONE THAT WORKS IN SIMPLE MODE AND ONE THAT WORKS IN ADVANCE MODE.
[EQUIPMENT]
Windows XP, Sony DRU500a and a LG DVD reader/CD writer used to read DVD's. Hope this may help 321 to correct problems.

For all user that are re-installing a previuos version that worked before. Go to Windows on C:\windows\system32\drivers\ and delete pcouffin before re-installing previous version that worked or simple rename, for example this is what I do xpcouffin and previous program will re-install the orginal pcouffin that came with version.

If you get a chance and don't mind doing so do the test some are doing. Disable the lg and see if it will do the trick. Then edit you post with the conclusion to that test as well. If it does work that is by no means the fix just another test to find the second burners in same system that are causing this. The more info that can be compiled on this matter as to what second burners are doing this maybe the faster it can be resolved.

TO HELP YE GUYS OUT HERE IS A LITTLE INFO TO HELP YE...THIS IS THE WAY I HAVE ONE OF MY PUTERS SET UP..
AND I DO NOT NOT HAVE ONE PROBLEM WITH PLATINUM OR WITH SIMPLE...OR ANY DVDXCOPY PRODUCTS FROM DAY ONE.....
USE A INTERNAL DVD-ROM DRIVE AND DVD-BURNER ON THE SAME CHANNEL AND A EXTERNAL CD-BURNER WHICH CAN BE POWER OFF WITH A SWITCH ON THE REAR OF THE UNIT.....
I KNOW I WILL GET SOME CRAP FROM THE GUYS WITH EXTERNAL BURNERS...I HAVE AND EXTERNAL DVD-BURNER ON ANOTHER SET UP...WHICH I WILL EXPLANE LATER...

I down loaded trial ver. of express worked great soooo I got platinum 3.1 simple and advance got the 99% error. 3.1.1 simple reads the disk then the grey button advance reads then put in blank hit start...burn complete and nothing burned tried aspi drivers,new pcouffin striped all other burning softwear booted rebooted uninstalled reinstalled nothing worked!! Then disabled my cd-burner now simple works but advance still get burn complete without anything getting burned.

Hi, Qucik question.
I have installed Platinum 3.1.1 and its working okay...I also have aspi installed in my XP system.
Does patin-couffin work well with aspi?

Since I use Win98se, many of the drivers of Platinum upgrade do not load... these are the items that do not work...
1) Cannot watch Previews... crashes.
2) Cannot use simple(express).
3) Cannot uninstall Platinum... holds up after three lines.
But It does work in the default mode where some times I get the whole disc filled...
...I can adjust the individual compression of each title also to a low of 25%... or to a high of 75% and lock it... for those who cannot lock it, try clicking the pointer at the beginning or end of the line ...and do not drag it.

Do we lower the compression to say 25% or raise it to say 75% to get the better picture.

Choose the lower number for lowest compression rate & best picture. Some users (myself included) have posted previously in this thread about the "claimed" and "actual" compression rates being somewhat different. You could try a search for compression to see these if you like.

The last time I subscribed to the thread, a link to "Unsubscribe" was included in the e-mail notifications. I always uncheck the "notifications" check box when posting to eliminate tons of e-mails since I check the thread anyway. Hope this helps.

i can not back up splitted discs because prog. freezes at finalize stadium. (ctrl-alt del) and have to start all over again. (first disk does burn okay)

Hey I just reformatted C and did a clean install of XP Home ed (from 98SE). I want to see if the firmware version (2.0f) of my Sony DRU500a was re-installed by XP or if I need to re-install it. I looked in Device Manager but it doesn't seem to be displayed as it was in 98SE. Someone got an answer?
P.S. I now am able to get PREVIEW in Plat. Couldn't before.
