LITE-ON LTR-52246S [CD-ROM drive] 850 megahertz AMD Athlon Board: Asus A7V-VM 1.02 nero 5.5.10.0 This is some of what i have as soon as i disabled my cd burner the burn button lights up. i tried unistall and reinstall with no luck. safe mode will put two vso in system as we all know. in safe mode the divers dont load. when rescue loads it will not see vso engine installed by platinum then installs again. so i tried to disable cd burner it works now but dont always finalize. iam new at all this. System is cable select dvd as master first on ide cable cd burner is second slave

Tried pcouffin 1.15 and it would not work with Express 2.5.2. If I have time this weekend I will reinstall Platinum and use burn engine 1.12.2.0 in the Simple mode to see if it will work. I could get Platinum to work in advance mode but not in simple mode with pcouffin 1.14 that comes with current version of Platinum.

no this isn't the only dvd giving me this problem like i said it's 9 out of 10. And yes using my burner as the reader has solved this problem in the past but this isn't a acceptable solution due to wear on my burner. Any ideas? The reason i crossed posted my problem is because this is the 4th or 5th time i've detailed this problem with no avail. So i thought (correctly) that maybe someone in one of the other threads might help. For now i will wait for Platinum to catch up with it's competition and continue to use other programs

OK. I reformatted.I did a clean, full, install from the upgrade disk install XP home (not Pro after all). Then I updated EVERYTHING that required it etc.
Everything works now. I get Preview for the first time all the other controls work also. Tommorrow I will start testing DVDs, both episodics and fliks.
OK Just tried Get A Life (chris elliot-episodic)...that %99 error issue is VERY tenacious, isn't it?!
I also installed:
Nero 6.0.0.9
PowerDVD
DVDXCopy V 1.5.2
Sonic MyDVD 5.x
All these installs actually seemed to be more aware of the system as a whole. I saw files and messages (success messages)that I hadn't seen with 98SE.

Since I didnt get a specific response, I am reposting my earlier message for the 321 moderators:
Well, I have to agree with most people who have tried relentlessly to get the DVDXCOPY PLATINUM 3.1.1 to do what its supposed to. I have been trying for days now to make a back-up copy of K-PAX but to no avail. I have disabled / uninstalled the software on the BLACKLIST. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall of the DVDXCP 3.1.1 but still no back-up. All I'm able to do is have my movie READ in about 16-17 min, then all of a sudden a window pops up saying "Burn completed succesfully" when I know for sure that the movie was never BURNED since my burner's light never came on. What more do I have to do to get this software to work ? Then I thought I should try and download the TRIAL version of DVDXPRESS, so I did. I tried backing up the same movie, K-PAX, and again, step 1: Reading went well. I confirmed that the AUDIO_TS folder was created but was empty, the VIDEO_TS folder was also created and contained 10 files of 4.35 GB and, the ARCHIVE.txt file was also created. However as soon as step 1 was completed, step 2 showed: INSERT BLANK DVD, even though there was a blank dvd already inside my burner and, the START button remains greyed out. I have tried 3 different media, namely: VERBATIM DVD+RW/ FUJI DVD+RW/ MEMOREX DVD+R. None of these discs have been burned successfully, yet. Although these same discs were burned without any problem with DVDXCOPY 1.5 using the same Sony DRX-510UL firewire burner and played fine on my Panasonic DVD palyer.
MY SYSTEM SPECS:
Toshiba Satellite Notebook/Windows XP Home SP1/P4/2.4GHZ/512MB RAM/40GB HDD/SONY DRX-510UL Firewire Burner with updated firmware 1.0c. The 2 other video editing software on my system are: Pinnacle Studio 8 and Sonic MyDVD 4.5 ( neither of which interferred with DVDXCopy 1.5.2 ).
Anyone at 321 studios interested in resolving this problem ?????????????? PLEASE HELP !!!

SUCCESS STORY.........
Installed new VSO. Burned to an 1x ptidisc -R (cheap disc). Burn successful and will play in all stand alone players. First success since buying Platinum on Sept 3. Platinum will still not finalize using Fujifilm 1x-2.5x +r discs. Is there a way to change the write speed on the burner?????????

If you can send a log file from successive tries. (one from a successful Advanced burn, and one from an unsuccessful Simple burn) that will help us a lot in tracking down the problem.

As an HP 200i owner, guess I'll just have to wait for 3.2 to fix Express, will be backing up in Advance mode till then. Happy at least half of Platinum is working!!!

Yesterday I backup a movie using the new version 3.1.1 but it does freeze at the backup disclaimer using WinDVD on the computer, Toshiba and KLH 2200 DVD player . Using my Panasonic DMR-hs2 it freezes but after a while it does continue but it will freeze various times towards the end of the movie (Mr. Wonderful). I was unable to watch the whole backup movie I used advanced mode and this movie is 96 min. only. I'm about to give up on 321 software.

Thank you for replying to my post.
I did an "over the top" of 3.1.1 with no change.
I will try disconecting one of my drives and report back on Monday. As I mentioned I did a new download and re-install and got a different error. Is it possible my second download is bad? Causing my getting the "error occured reading sectors" & "unable read dvd" instead of the original "burn complete" without recognising the drive?

I kind of doubt it..
I think that if it were a bad download, either it would not install properly, or it would not run.
The installer self-verifies itself for integrity before it installs, so if there was a problem, usually, the installer will not continue.
The read error may be a few different things.
First, make sure that you have a valid ASPI layer installed and working.
Second, make sure that the disk and the drive itself are clean and free of any dust or dirt that may be creating problems.
Third, Inspect the disk for scratches. If there are some scratches, that may be the reason for the read error.
Fourth, Try reading the disk in the burner and see if you have the same problem.

321, I'm having the reading problem with every disc and yes it is solved by using my burner. But why? No other program i use has a problem with my dvd rom. You yourself suggest having two drives to save your burner. Please tell me this problem will be addressed in the next version of Platinum.

I have tried reading and writing to the same drive and I had no luck at all. I am going to physically disconnect one of the drives and if that helps I will post. As an aside, Xpress (ver. 3.0.2) works great, no problems at all and is my fall back copier. Must add that I do appreciate all the help and have no complaints about 321 - at least someone is trying to help.

OK. Success Finally. All of this issue was over having a CD-Burner on the same IDE Channel as my DVD burner.
Once I disabled the CD Burner, Simple Mode worked and burned a DVD.
Thank you all for your input. This was very frustrating and time consuming. 321 needs to fix this in there next update and get the word out on this.

I had the problem with the inactive start button in simple mode. After reading about it in the posts,I disabeled my cd-burner before starting platinum. This made the button active and the burn successful. The advanced mode has worked all the time.

Is there anything that all of you have in common besides having the CD Burner on the same IDE Channel as I have both my HP200i and Samsung CDRW/DVDROM on the same and have never had this issue.As this may help down the road for others.

iam gald your simple mode works now. this is what i have in my system windows xp all updates LITE-ON LTR-52246S NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A [CD-ROM drive]1.ao frimware on a cable select system. if this is any help. just disabled my cd burner after a week of trying every thing else, simple mode started to work why it started to work then have no idea. maybe it is the drive select program?

Okay- I missed some of this- but on my old 'puter- the 'select' feature always shows 2 choices- the Sony DRU-500A internal and a Plextor PX-W24-10A CD burner . So you are saying if I disable the CD burner thru the Device manager (Windows 2000 Pro) this could solve Platinum in simple mode not seeing the burner after ripping the DVD? If so, I'll try again. Sorry if I missed some of the posts referring to this. Thanks for any feedback- appreciate it- since always showed Plextor with all versions- never dawned on me this wasn't okay. the drive select always showed both burners in all past programs first time i had this probelm just disabled cd burner in device manger now simple mode will see blank disk after rip
