Yeah...platinum...Heres my story. Downloaded it, installed it with Rescue. Could not get it to open "This Program..illegal op..shutting down" etc. Tried to UNinstall it and it hangs at the asyncflt.dll file. So I just re-installed over it WITHOUT Rescue. Then it started SOMETIMES. "Illegal op" thing about half the time. When it does start, no control on compression, same greyed buttons as others have reported. When I go to 'Preview', again "illegal op, shutting down". Also same problem as others with it not recognising blank disk. Tried 'simple mode' and it yielded a compressed version of Bourne Identity that looked like it was filmed using Leggos to build the actors with. Excuse me...waiter! Patches, please!

I NEVER burn right to a blank. I always burn to a rewrite first then 'copy disk'

the only people getting screwed right now are the people that bought Plat having never purchased Gold, xpress or whatever. They are the ones that don't have a burning program at all. Everyone that upgraded to Plat should just post the problem once and chill out. Mr. Moore with fix it, I'm sure of it.

I'm having the same issues everyone else is having: no preview and burning for 2 seconds and then asking for the blank.

I think we should all be patient...I also think 321 should reset everyones activations since I have used most of mine up deleting and reinstalling the different programs, trying to get something to work......I almost thought I had platinum going but it suddenly just shut off about 3/4 of the way through the burn...I hadn't realized that you had to check the box next to the titlesets you want...I thought6 you just highlighted the titleset so that is why I did'nt get the option to proceed....Hope this helps someone...

What is the process for starting a new Platinum Forum group?

Given that what we have here is a widely distributed beta, I think we are wasting a vast amount of resources by not capturing 100s of folks attempts to get the software to work, work-arounds, and potential bug causes.

Personally, I have no problem coming to grips with the fact that the software isn't working. Folks screamed to get it out the door and it left a bit too early. Get over it...now that we have it...let's help get it right.

Unfortunately, we can't contribute to the patches w/o a place to document our findings. At a minimum I'd suggest the following structure:

Platinum
- News and Announcements
- Problems Installing
o Installation Instructions (locked)
- Problems with Simple Mode
- Problems with Advanced Mode
- Problems with Settings
- Problems with Disk Reads
- Problems with Disc Burns

Feel free to poke holes in this structure...its just off the top of my head. Some may say its too detailed, but if we really want to target problems I, personally, would find it very useful to focus on the problem areas. In addition, such a focus would help any 321 staff that might make use of our tests.

thoughts...

It is going to be awhile before 321 Live! goes online. In the meantime we are waiting for Aftedawn to expand this forum to include seperate rooms for Platinum and all of the other new software.

Be patient.

IMHO, by the time we get the new rooms the more serious and frequent problems will be patched. But that's just my hunch.

Platinum doesn't recognize blank media - it reads the source, asks for a blank - The cursor changes to an arrow w/a DVD, leading me to suspect the OS and the drive know there's a blank in there, but the "Start" button never turns green...

I've tried several different types/brands of media...

1.1 Athlon
Abit KT7-Raid MB (Raid not in use)
512MB RAM
120 Gig Maxtor
1394 TDK IndiDVD 4x +/-R, +/-RW

Have downloaded and installed platinum but was wondering if the previous versions of dvdxcopy and xpress need to be removed first? When I installed platinum without removing the previous versions they disappeared from the 321 studios folder but are available in windows explorer. Any suggestions!

Problems...have burned a few discs sucessfully but toay tried to copy and burn the supplment disc to There's Something About Mary...This Disc would also not copy to two discs under the old program as there seemed to be no way to get the file size down.

Anyway, on the same disc with platinum, platinum in advanced mode and all titles selected, platinum reads fine, asks to insert a writeable disc, and then does absolutley nothing. No writing occurs and no error message..just a progress bar w nothing happening.

In follow up to my previous post..just tried to burn the Something About Mary supplment disc through Platinum's express mode with "entire disc" selected.

It read for a couple of seconds and then immediately started burning and gave me a coaster with the 321 and FBI warning splash screens, the "commentary views are not the views of MGM", et. disclaimer, and nothing else

In answer to your Query, Us Moderators, do not have the facility to start a new forum window like the one you suggest,

In fact that request has already been submitted to the webmaster, and no doubt you will find, a Platinum addition to the forum soon,

Don't' forget that most people do not work over the weekend,

Moderators, can only moderate the forums and try to help if possible, we can edit/move/delete/hide post , but cannot change the structure of the forum

But rest assured it will be done, we are in the same boat as you, as regards to platinum..

I think that many problems that people are having are because they don't know how to properly use the software. How could ANYONE come out with a program with absolutely NO instructions or help files to check? For those of us that have previous experience using DVDX or Xpress, we have some idea on how to use this program but to person who is buying a 321 product for the first time, they haven't a clue!

I too am experiencing most of the previously posted problems(greyed out selections, preview not working and incomplete burns) Being one of the original users of DVDX, I am very disappointed in the quality of the product that has come to be after being 5 months later then the original promise. I feel confident that 321 will fix the current problems with Platinum but again am very surprised that this is what we get after so many months and so much talk of this product.

I have the same problem as stric9 .
It reads the dvd fine, but says burn complete on the second phase. It never burns anything. And then it locks up!

well I must say the only problems that I have encountered are features that I thought would be included but were not but I know they will be coming evetually but so far for me I am 3 for 3 and for me it works better than express but I have not tried the simple mode only the advanced and I am impressed the best part is its going to get better with future releases thanks 321

Just wanted to share my first BURN experience with Platinum.

I tried doing a copy of American Pie.

I selected the movie titleset (which is 4.7 gb of space) and 2 very small titlesets..took less than .1 combined. The compression had to be 91%(which seems a bit high)...I realize the menus, and audio take a bit of space too....but I don't see why I couldn't keep it closer to 100.

Anyway, the read process took about 45min to an hour....pretty long when compared to DVD X Copy.
The Burn also took about an hour.

I am not complaining since I realize Platinum is not ready yet, just sharing my experience.

Anyway, the disc itself seemed a little strange. The BURN did not go anywhere near the edge of the disc...I still had another half inch of empty space on the disc. Is this because it had to compress the video to 91%? If so why can't the compression be like 95-98%?

also, I couldn't change the audio track during the movie (I didn't try through the menu, but it shouldn't matter). I think only the one audio track was included. Right at the start of the movie I also got a small bit of garbage on the screen, nothing too big.

Very clearly the software is still a work-in-progress. Anyone else have similar burns?

(as far as my computer is concerned...I have more than enough for system requirements/recommendations...I have had no trouble with X Copy or Xpress)

My first platinum burn was "Dances with Wolves: Director's Edition". This was one of those DVD's(the other is "Die Another Day") where if you use Xpress and pick NO SUBTITLES, it would omit ALL subtitles, even when the Indians/foreigners were speaking. With Platinum, I was able to pick just the movie for the burn; it doesn't allow me pick a language or subtitle. I left out the making of featurette and music video; that way the movie had 18% compression with the whole compression being 62%. I'm not sure what these readings mean so if anyone out there knows, please enlighten me. Picking the movie only left me with 5.27 GB of data to compress on to a 4.7 GB blank. When the burn was done, I looked at the disc and was surprised to see only 75% of the disc was used. Why? It looks like Platinum is using Xpress 3.0.2's compression scheme. Anyway, I played the movie and it looked fine, so far. But the thing is the subtitles are there for the Indians! So this is one good thing Platinum has done that Xpress could not; before 3.0 came out anyway. I know that Xpress 3.0 with ENTIRE DISC checked will do the same; BUT it would include the special features that I didn't want to save on video compression. Platinum also co-exists with Xcopy and Xpress on the same pc.
My system: Dell Dimension 4550
pentium 4, 2.66 mhz
nec dvd+r 1100a burner.

I am one of a lucky customer of using Platinum.
Well, Platinum has not failed me yet so far after I burned successful with six Episo disks.
It works for me.

i was wondering: can you also work with the TDF files..? and browse your HD for files when you work in adv. mode..?
Were you able te actually burn 2 disks when splitting..? And did you have menu's on the first disk?

What is your system config...? (OS, drives, software etc)
"there must be something why it works for you!"

G'Day there,
I have just backed up my first dvd using platinum. I must say when I first opened the program I was shocked because it looked very dull and all the selections are greyed out. I suppose looks are not priority for 321 Studios at the moment. When I clicked on settings, the dvd writer section has yyyy, not sure what the go there is and all the other buttons don't seem to do anything. Any way I clicked on the advanced tab and just highlighted all titlesets because I could'nt tell which was the main movie. By the way the preview panel works fine. Then clicked on the compress page, was'nt sure what to do here and then clicked next. The ripping took about 20minutes and the burn took an hour. Hav'nt had a chance to watch the whole movie yet but it plays the first section OK with not bad picture quality. My operating system has:
Intel Pentium 4
2.0 GHZ Processor
256MB DDR Ram
80 GB Harddrive
Sony DVD-Rom
Pioneer A05 dvd Burner + rom, burning on the fly
Windows XP Pro
Am currently running Stomp Recordnow Max without the DLA drivers installed as they gave me heaps of trouble earlier.
And did not uninstall the previous versions of Xpress and dvdxcopy. Hope this is usefull!

ozy,
If you click on the (+) next to each titleset you can expand it and preview what is there. This would be how you can eliminate various titleset that you do not want, such as previews of upcoming releases of DVD's,some extras and so on. The titleset that has the most chapters would be the main body of the movie. The compression screen will allow you to adjust the compression for each tileset you chose, this way you can compress more of the extras rather than the movie itself. You can use a RW disk to play with it untill you get comforatible with it.Updates to Platinum will include being able to eliminate certain audio aspects of the movie.

Posse,
Eventually we will have a site where we can download and upload TDF's for use that will be monitored and checked by the 321 support staff.

My platinum doesn't work. When you hit the simple tab the dvd xpress box pops up.It begins reading the disc for about 30 seconds and then says disc burn successfuly. There was no burn. Under the advanced tab you can pick title sets and compression ratios.platinum then reads the disc for about 30 minutes then says insert blank media. When I insert blank media nothing happens. It remains greyed out. Emailed tech support 5 days ago.No response.Called tech support long distance twice.Put on hold for an hour combined.none of the advice they gave me has helped at this time. They say there is currupted downloads---try downloading again.
My dvdxcopy and dvdxpress 3.0 works wonderfully.
Here's what I've done so far:

1.Tuned Firewall off.
2.Uninstalled anti-virus software.
3.Updated XP home edition--SP1
4.Updated burner firmware
5.Downloaded platinum 8 times(all currupted?)
6.Ran Pcsetup.exe in device manager---Patin-couffin driver says media present and shows my dvd rom and external burner.
7.Deleted all traces of 321 studios software/folders/files/cookies/temp files/history and then did a hard shutdown.then downloaded platinum and installed.restarted the computer. This is what tech told me to do.No Help.same problems.
8.Deleted DLA packet
9.Tryed many different combos of installs and uninstalls with platinum/xpress/copy

10.Need help!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow!
It looks as though I fell behind in here pretty quickly!!

I've read most of the posts already, and have a good grasp on what everyone is seeing.

As everyone should know, the release of Platinum that is available now is not the final version of the software. We initially made a Beta release for the Conference, and ended up opening that version up to the public to stay with the Sept 3rd date that was given.

We are making changes daily on the application and working on adding all of the features that we have talked about.

The ability to select at the Title level instead of just the titleset level, TDF Files, preview audio, faster/better reading/burning, and more compatible disks are things that I know are being worked on at the moment.

Tweaking the size of the back-up disks is also something that is being worked on, but the size of the disks is directly related to the extras on the disk, and also with the 99% problem. When we get one fixed, it should fix them both.

If anyone has any really weird things happening that they want to report, please send them to bugs@321studios.com. I will make sure that the Developers get any reports given so that they may try and fix the issues.

This thing is perfect. No coasters yet it burns faster than Xpress. Before some discs would not work w/xpress but now that I get to choose what goes on the disc, previous coasters are now burning perfectly. Just burned Lord of The Rings: Two Towers, I believe its 7.69gb, but the movie looks damn close to the original. Now the only dics I could not burn w/xpress, 24 season 1 discs, they are like 9 gigs, but I will try w/platinum and see what happens.

Here's something that I'm pretty sure is screwed up but I'm not exactly sure what it means.

1) Go into Device Manager and scroll to the bottom; you should see "VSO Drivers" I believe these are the drivers for Xpress and have nothing to do with X-Copy.

2) Click on the "+" and you will see the Patin Couffin driver engin that powers Xpress, and, evidently Platinum as well.

3) How many do you see? I *think* there should only be one. When I installed Platinum w/o uninstalling Express, there ended up being 3 of those drivers sitting there and the Simple tab of Platinum crashed each time.

4) Tech support at 321 were emphatic that Xpress and Platinum do NOT co-exist. I know some folks here say they do...but I can only report what I've been told. Also, considering that within the Platinum directory there is a executable called "Xpress" of a different size than Xpress 3.0.2, and that the simple tab launches this executable, their warning seems to be well founded.

5) Uninstall Platinum

6) Uninstall Xpress

7) Check back to see if VSO Devices still exist in device manager. They should be gone, but were not on my system. If they are still there, delete them.

8) Reinstall Platinum

9) Check VSO Devices. You should see one Patin Couffin Engine

10) Try Platinum. It likely still won't work properly, but I just don't think you have a prayer of it working with all those overlapping VSO devices running around. For me, it corrected the Simple tab crashing and the errors associated with previewing titlesets. My Burner still shows up as YYYY, but that's an improvment. Prior to my VSO Device surgery, I showed no Burner at all. I haven't tried backing any DVDs up, simply because I haven't bought any that need backing up and figure there will be a more stable version of Platinum by the time I need to do another backup. For those of you that need to do back-ups now...give these steps a try and post back if they solve your problem. If they do, I want a box of Doubletree cookes from the 321 tech staff ;-P

I know there is some talk on this thread that ULead products are conflicting with Platinum. I uninstalled all of my ULead products, but I am still having problems in the advanced mode of Platinum.

For my part, ULead is not the problem.
