that pcouffin engine did the trick for me on my system with the 106 in it. Like I said though + media was sometimes finalizing for me before just was hit or miss. The only thing now is for the +rw will play on 2 of my settop players the way it comes out of the 106. To get them to play on my 3rd settop I have to bring the disk in here to this system with my hp 200i and use bitsetter then it plays on all 3 of them.
O yeah there is one other thing I noticed. With revision 13 and 14 of pcouffin the laser calibration when it would burn to +media was really loud. Now you can hardly hear it when it is calibrating for + media.

I'm sorry that I haven't been able to post many responses in the past few days!
I have had my hands full with testing and moving into yet another new office.
I will take time today to try and read up on everything i missed, but if anyone has something that they want me to look at or give an answer to, please PM me.
In a few days, things will be back to normal.

OK, I downloaded p-coffin 1.15 and installed. No change in my problem. Using NEC+R. Using Platinum 3.1, Express, the disk is copied to my computer and asks for a blank DVD, when I insert one, the start button never goes green.
I still have DVDxcopy, and using that program, everything copies just fine. I am stumped

No. Using INTERNAL NEC 1100A +R with P4 2.6, 1 gig ram, and Asus P4C800 dlx.
After DVD is copied to harddrive, I insert blank +R or blank +R RW, and start button never turns green.
I have deleted 3.1 and reinstalled. No change.

If you look in your Device Manager, is there a VSO entry?
Also, if you double click on the PCSetup.exe located in the installation directory, does it show your drives?
What are your system details?
This is a great tool that will get all of your system details, and put them into an HTML document.
Once you download and install the application, start it, and then you can copy and paste the details into an email or PM.

Try a re-install right over the top, and then say no when asked if you want to restart.
Then restart manually.

Also do you know what firmware version your drive is useing. And is it the dell oem, iodata oem, or retail 1100a. If I remember corect the firmware for each is diferant. I will locate some links for you to look into and edit this post with them.
I dont recomend that you flash with any that say not tested. Nor flash with any if you are not sure if it is dell or iodata or retail

I have upgraded to the 1.15 couffin engine and now can copy and burn Platinum 3.1.1 with Advanced with compression using my Optorite DVD RW DD0203 and Memorex 2X -R media. I still have the problem with simple (Express)...it copies and then it wont burn no mater what media is inserted.I am in the process of trying 4X media.Has anybody else got any fixes for the Optorite drive and XP?

today i tried to BURN with another tool <Edited by 321_Q/A for Content> It also uses VSO patin coufin..
and what happened..??
It did also freezes at the finalizing stage
(although the disk was okay .. but i also was able to play with simple mode discs..
well i don't know if i should mention this.. but maybe it says something about vso Patin Coufin driver more than about Platinum

If I can be the 'dumb guy' please- I also still can't get Xpress to see the disk to burn- button stays gray. I do have the VSO engine listed and everything else. (before you ask) My question- since will try anything once, at least, in regard to the new VSO engine 1.15 mentioned above- what is the proper way to install it? Do I do like before when replaced 3.0X with 2.52- but with 3.1.1 folder/VSO_hwe.dll? Thanks- confused as usual- igortwo
p.s. have to agree also- P/C engines after 2.5X have just not worked well for me- wish there was a way to use older engine with platinum.

I was having the same problem with simple and advanced reading the disk then getting the immediate "burn complete" message and media was not being recognised.
I un-installed version 3.1.0, rebooted, installed 3.1.1, rebooted. Had the same problem. I did another download to insure that the file was not bad. I did a un-install, reboot, install, reboot - now the disk reads to about 99% and I get "error occured reading sectors" then "unable read DVD". I can do preview and I have had no problems with DVDXC (1.5.2)and DVD Express (ver 3.0.2). I get the same error messages with SIMPLE and ADVANCED.Media does not matter. Drives show up and are selectable. Using the default temp directory and it appears to be writing to it. I am trying to backup HOLES and Bend it like Beckham - but appears to not be related to the master disk.
I spent a day reading this forum - I hope that I did not miss the answer in a previous post.
Any Ideas? Thanks for the help.

Have you tried isntalling the application directly over the top of the previous install, and then rebooting? That seems to allow the drivers to overwrite themselves more easily.

I have a question, that I believe I've seen asked before somewhere, however I can't seem to find it.
I recently uninstalled all xpress & plat. & DXC and then reinstalled plat. and now everything has been working fine, at least with advanced w/compression (all i've tried)
until last night, I tried to burn Dreamcatcher(and a couple of other disks the other day) when it started to read the disk it pops up and says "missing file" vts_02.ifo or something like that
it did this in both simple and advanced
however when I tried to burn it without compression it was able to do it.
what is causing this error and is there anything I can do to fix it should it pop up again in the future?
Have:
Platinum v. 3.1.1
Win XP SP1
Sony DRU-AX burner, 2.0f, internal
reading from generic dvd-rom reader, internal
have not changed any settings or anything
using Fujifilm +R media, same as I always have

Just installed 1.15 couffin engine and when using Platinum in Simple mode it still will not burn. Gives same old sucess message when nothing is burned on the DVD. Supposely burns in less than a few seconds. Someone said that to get DVD express 2.5.2 to work again you had to go back to pcuffin 1.12.2.0. I know it will not work with the 1.14 version that Platinum now uses. It looks like someone at 321 with their vast computer knowledge could figure out what the differences are in the burn engines.
Deleted the pcuffin 1.15 from Windows\system32\drivers and uninstalled Platinum and Express. Reinstalled Express 2.5.2 and will let everyone know if I can burn again under Express.

NEXT TIME YOU RIP IN SIMPLE,CHECK THE SIZE OF THE XPRESS TEMP FILE...IF THE FILE IS TO LARGE IT WILL NOT BURN...
I FOUND ON SOME MOVIES I RIP AND WON'T BURN IN SIMPLE,IS CAUSED BY THE ABOVE REASON....

OK. Here is the latest. I have done everything you have said so far. No real change. Everything else on my computer works fine including DVD X Copy, Easy CD Creator 6, & Microstudio CDG's. No error X's on Belarc Advisor & no issues in my device manager.
On firmware. I have NEC 1100A OEM (not Dell) and just updated it yesterday to 1.26 in hopes that would make a difference.
Here's where I am. I can burn DVD using Advance method. Everything on the advanced tab works great. When I go to Simple, I have the same problem. It sucks up the DVD, asks for blank DVD, and it never burns, just sits there with a grey start button. Makes no difference if I check 'enire disc' or not.
I sure appreciate your quick response to me, but nothing has changed the Simple Copy in Platinum.
Win XP SP1, P4 2.6, Asus P4C800, ATI 8500 DV is my hardware..

i got platinum to work by disabling my second cd burner in device manger in simble mode.it seems to get confused if you have more then one burner drive in system. before the start to burn button would never light up for me this is the first platinum worked for me

Deleted pcouffin burn engine 1.15 from Windows\system32\drivers and uninstalled Platinum and DVD Express. Reinstalled DVD Express 2.5.2 and in burned movie correctly. DVD Express 2.5.2 uses pcouffin burn engine 1.12.2.0 and it works with Sony 500a dru burner.
