Malcolm - I've been discussing an issue similar to yours with another Mod. Are you using a controller card with that large hard drive and if so which one? ($3 for blanks? You're shopping at the wrong store.)
Also, in case I missed it, you haven't indicated why you're not using RWs if you're having so much trouble.
Lastly, As far as Ireland and Dengar being the major leaguers you need to resolve your problems, be advised that Toolman18 is not some minor league dink 321 just decided to give Member status to for the heck of it; he know's his stuff.

doubleAA,
I got the same problem as you. I believe the compress calculator is messed up. Read the log file in the log directory. My log file said that the compress files will not fit on one disc. I could not fix this because the DVD i was trying to back up had only one title, and I could not change the compression ratio. My suggestion is that you try to increase the compress percentage and lock the ratio. It may work. I cannot say because I only had the one experience, and could not fix it.
I solve my problem by using DVDxCopy Express, not the simple mode. After burning, I could see that the Express did not use the whole disc. So I amd assuming the compression caulator on the Platinum is different than the one in the Express.

321_Q/A
You said you could help me get a refund on my platinum purchase since nobody at support@321studio.com would reply to any email containing the word "refund".
I've had no reply since I sent you the info you asked for. Can you help me get a refund, or do I need to pursue other options?

I am sure 321 studios/RH Moore, will accomodate you if you only have purchased platinum. I would call and talk to them about it, if you can wait for the platinum fix. They also have a trial version of express if you haven't tried it. It takes a great deal of work for 321 products to accomodate different computers, dvd drives, media, etc and don't mention other software you are running on your system, some are just not compatible. Some they can fix and some it's possible that they might not ever be able to fix.
Hang in there!!!!
Thanks

For those having problems finalizing +R media.
I had that problem from day one.
(have a Pioneer 106D burner)
Have found out as Capt45 found (he also has a Pioneer 106) that I CAN burn to 1x DVD-R with NO problem. The big plus is that this media can be had pretty cheap. (takes a little longer to burn but no biggie to me.)
TRY this type of media it may work for you.
I used Princo 1x DVD-R and it works great for me and at around .70 per disk it beats those $2 coasters I was making by a mile.

I'm in the same situation as abductee. I called customer service and asked to be given a code to make one of the old programs work and was told that they couldn't do that. I'm in a situation where I have to decide whether to keep the program -- get my rebate -- or get my money back, which I'm hearing here can be quite difficult. I'd like to keep the program, but don't know what to do -- I've spent over $150 for something that still doesn't do what it's supposed to. It would have been nice of them to give me something that does work for my set-up while I wait. Oh well...

Hey Please!
Thanx for the advice. Unfortunately since i'm not that computer savy, i wont be able to do much with this info. I do appreciate your help though.
Nevertheless, a big THANK YOU goes out to TULIP, who posted a thread on September 24, 2003 describing step-by-step instruction on how to do a clean install. Sure enough it worked. Now atleast i was able to get DVDXPRESS Trial version to backup K-PAX. The backup is amazingly good on a FUJI DVD+RW.
I will repeat the process on my DVD+R and hopefully that would work too.
So those of you out there who are still having trouble with DVDXCOPY-PLATINUM, try using XPRESS after doing a clean install, it just might work for you too...GOOD LUCK!!
Once again TULIP, your advice is HIGHLY APPRECIATED.....Thanx!!!!!

OK, I'm getting pretty tired of this Platinum fiasco, here's the latest issue: Using the advanced mode, I can burn DVD-RW disks that play just fine, but when I go to burn a DVD-R they won't play back. Any ideas on this one? Previous versions of X-Copy would burn either on this machine.

Glad your problem was solved by using the dvd r- 1x media. Haven't tried the 2x yet as they are a little harder to find. But when I do I'll let you know. By the way, did you get that tip on how to close the +r's using dvd decrypter??

***(NEWBIES,WHAT I AM GOING TO POST IS NOT FROM 321-STUDIOS.)***
THIS INFO IS A UPDATE FROM VSO WEB SITE
WHOMPUS POSTED THIS INFO IN THE RAG-TAG THREAD......I AM SURE HE WILL NOT MINE IF I SHARE IT WITH YOU... IF YOU DO TRY USING THIS NEW ENGIN UPDATE,REMEMBER THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU TEST IT... PLATINUM 3.11 USES A 1.14 COUFFIN ENGIN...
THIS UPDATE IS FOR A 1.15 COUFFIN ENGIN....
QUOTE FROM WHOMPUS....
Maybe this new pcouffin engine will fix some of the problems that some are having if it does go into the next update of platinum.
O I forgot the new 15 version of pcouffin is here http://download.vso-software.fr/patin-couffin_setup.exe if anyone wants to test it that is having a problem with platinum. I am not having any burning problems or I would know if it did anygood or still the same. I do however now have the 15 version of pcouffin and still had no problem with burning from platinum

Using Platinum 3.1 (same problem with 3.0) when using Express mode, DVD will not burn. The start button never turns green when fresh DVD inserted. I switch to DVD X Copy and all goes fine. Any ideas out there??

Hi all!
I just wanted to add some personal observations:
1. I have had considerable success with Platinium AND an external DVD burner, (SONY DRX-510UL), while splitting the DVD, provided that I am very careful not to include any title-sets in the Read/Burn that the program was unable to open as a preview.
2. On the other hand, if I try to copy a whole disk, including title-sets that the program was unable to preview, then I usually run into a read problem.
3. If Platinum encounters the read problem while attempting to read the second part of the disk, ie after already reading and copying the first disk, then you're in trouble, (you may have just created a coaster), because you cannot fix the problem. The only way to resume, is to close the program and to start again at square one.
4. I still have a problem with the preview function, with Platinum being able to preview about 30-40% of the extra title-sets. If all you are trying to back-up is the main feature, then there is usually no problem.
There is still a lot of room for improvement, but I am impressed by the effort that moderators and staff are making to diagnose and repair the programs faults. That fact alone impresses me enough for me to want to stick with 321 Studios.
What I would like to see included in Platinum's advanced functions, is a balance between the user friendly concept which is already in existance, while combining some of the sophistocated functionality of DVD Decrypter.
Regards,
Pete

This a completely unrelated to Plat question. I read in PC Magazine a while back about an iTunes type sight but for Windows. It said that they have over 300,000 tunes for download from $.79 to like $1.29.
Question: WHAT WAS THE SITE???!!! I can't remember the name.
Anyone?
Plus tommorrow I am reformatting and installing XP Pro.
On top of that:
Sonic MyDVD 5.x (Video capture to DVD)
Nero 6.0.0.9
Platinum
PowerDVD (the player)
Anyone got any thoughts on order of install?

From what I understand from my tech guy at Central Computer, as far as the Pioneer A106 requiring certified 4X or 2X media: He believes that special media is only required to use the Ultra DRA (Dynamic Resonance Absorber) feature of the 106. He thinks even that might be marketing Bull S**t. I don't own a 106, I own the 105 so I cannot attest this is true so others should be sure of your store's return policy since many stores don't allow returns on writer devices. Maybe there is a Pioneer users forum out there somewhere.
Best regards

I kinda agree with your tech guy on the marketing bull s**t. Sense I purchased my 106 I have used piodata -r4x memorex -r2x and -r1x ritek +r 2.4x hp +r 2.4x verbatim +rw 2.4x hp +rw 2.4x and some no name -r from a friend that reported it was burning at 1.5x in stand alone vso app. Only thing I noticed was the + media was hit and miss on finalizing. after I updated my pcouffin today I have tested like 5 times with + media and the disks are always finalized.

One thing I don't understand about the 106 is the fact that Pioneer "pioneered" the -R standard and sat on the Standards Committee that established -R as the industry standard. Why did they cop-out and make a drive that uses +R media ???

I am using Fujifilm +R 1x-2.4x disc. Is there a way to control the speed at which I burn?
WHOMPUS,
DID YE SAY THAT THE 15 ENGIN DID A BETTER JOB OF FINALIZING + MEDIA....THEN THE 14 ENGIN THAT COMES WITH PLATINUM 3.11.........
IF THAT IS SO,YOU JUST UPDATED PLATINUM TO VER-3.1.1.5 ALL BY YE SELF...

doubleAA,
If you have a working backup on a +RW, you can save time by simply copying that to a +r via any apps copy feature. That would save a little time over using Platinum to rip & burn.
Just a thought.

Whisperer,
I am not quite grasping what you are trying to tell me in reguard to the media in relation to the 106 burner.
Whompus,
I saw that update (p-coffin) yesterday but figured I would wait & see a few others results. You obviously have used it with good results?? As I just got plat to work with -R media I am hesitant to make changes before seeing some good results from others.
The +R finalization is the ONLY issue I have as far as I can tell. You indicate the VSO update appears to help that issue. YES?
