I can't get a proper back-up of the Disney movie SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON. Before Platinum, XPress couldn't do it. I was hoping that Platinum would back it up, but I just tried & the results are the same. The back-up disc plays fine with Power DVD on my computer, but it skips out of control on my Sony DVPNS325 stand alone player. This is the only movie that I have seen this with, but the problem is consistent with both XPress & Platinum. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank You!

I do not know what I proved by doing this, but, perhaps someone else does? Perhaps a guru can comment on this?

I just ripped the movie, Blackout (special edition) with 3.1.1 Platinum, Advanced mode- compressed. I copied the temp files to another directory, and then did a burn to an Imation +RW disk with Platinum. Used my Sony 510A.

The copy locked up and pixelated in chapter 10 at 1:29 minutes on my Pioneer Elite DV-45A.

Then I used Nero 6 to burn the copy of the data that I saved prior to the above, but, I used a different Imation +RW disk. Both +RW disks had to be formatted (quick erase) by the burning program used.

This copy played fine, including the bad chapter from the Platinum burn. I did not check the special features, etc. on either disk.

I can speculate that the Platinum burner has a bug, or that the disk I used had a flaw, or what else?

When is the next update due for Platinum?

I am hoping my good buddy Ireland or Denger can help me. I downloaded DXC Plat 3.1.1 recently and installed it on my new computer (Dell 1.5 GHz). I have an external DVD burner which is a HP 200e (external DVD burner). When this software is run in simple mode, it reads the DVD but doesn't acknowledge the blank DVD. So I am unable to burn in Xpress mode. Also, in the Advanced mode it reads the DVD but burns it in a few seconds. I have tried this a few times and all turned out as coasters. At $3 per DVD this is costing me quite a bit. What could be wrong? I do not have InCD installed. BTW, I have the new Nero 6. Does the new InCD interfere with the DXC Plat? I read that this program interfered with the older versions of Xpress and DXC.
Please guys, help me out!!
What should I do? Is there another version coming out that will fix this bug?
Please, guys!! you are the real experts. After waiting doe 15 min., the 321 support could not figure out what is wrong.

Malcolm,
Make sure you have the Service Pack 1 for Xp or 4 for 2000.Check to see if VSO Device is listed in Device Manager, also in the Platinum Folder click on the PCSetup Installer. You should have the Pattin Cauffin Driver and click (+) and the HP should be listed.HP200e firmware of 1.51.You may want to try the uninstall of the INCD,or see if any Nero is Enabled in msconfig

O.K. my 2 cents. I have had a few problems with DXC or DXCX but no more than anyone else. I downloaded Platinum 3.1.1 and after the install I found it had uninstalled DXCX 2.5.2. No big deal at the time. I was able to back up some of my eposodiscs with no problems i.e. Band of Brothers, The Sopranos, and Traffik. But using "simple" I have had no luck at all. Every disc I have tried skips or freezes. It will not copy subtitles that are selected nor will it copy widescreen if there are both widescreen and full screen. Also using advanced mode it says it will compress a movie 3% but went burned it was more like 40%. Today I reinstalled DXCX 2.5.2 but now it will not copy the choosen subtitles or widescreen. Nothing running in the background everything disabled. Not bitching, just hoping someone has a has a fix. Thanks to everyone and the great help. You guys are the best. Hansel,
321_Q/A suggests that maybe you are not rebooting the pc after uninstalling the product. So whenever you update,do a complete unistall, reboot, then install.

I have a success story to share! I had all the problems with Plat that you all did since downloading it and using my laptop with an external HP writer. Once my software (did not use) and internal drive came in the mail I have had no problems with any parts of Plat 3.1.1. I however did do a complete wipout and re-install on my desktop including the OS (XP).
It's working well for me.

In fact, I'm watching Scarface 20th Anniversary NOW!

I DO want my external burner to work though without having to go to NERO!

dvdcrazy,

In regards to my post on Pg 53...

Thanks 4xburner for the suggestion...it solved my problem for the meantime. Yesterday I made two copies of K-19: The Widowmaker; one using Simple, the other using Advanced (Copying only the movie). When played back on my Denon DVD player, the copy made with Simple mode hesitated as expected (twice in the first 10 minutes). The copy made using Advanced played perfect, and the only hesitation was where the layer change of the original was. Thanks again for the idea 4xburner.

Now I have a different question: Obviously the video information is compressed to save space when copying a DVD. I'm wondering if the audio is compressed as well, or does it remain untouched?
Glad it worked for you. Regarding audio compression, there isn't any. I knew that I had read a few posts on the subject, but I had a very difficult time using the search engine to find them.

I found a post by Dengar (Mod), dated around August 22, that says that there is no audio compression in either DXC or DXCX. The post is in the suggestions and feedback thread under sound quality?

I'm sure that the same is true for Platinum, but I couldn't find the post that I wanted to find that confirms it.

Regarding use of the search engine, it's not always as easy as it sounds. If you choose to search for the exact phrase, you might not find the post you're looking for because the person said "the" where you thought he said "a".

If you choose to look for all of the words, you'll have a hard time putting in the right words that will narrow your search down to twenty or so posts.

If you choose to look for any of the words, you're liable to turn up most of the posts, since we're all posting about very similar things.

Thanks for posting your results.

Still the same problem with Platinum 3.11. While trying to backup my copy of Too Fast Too Furious the read fails. At 59% the process stalls and hangs up my machine to the point where i have to Cntrl Alt Del to close Platinum, and my dvd rom drive's led flashes continually even when i eject the movie. I have to restart my computer to reset. This is continually happening to me. Anybody have any ideas? Before you blame my dvd rom drive, it works fine with ALL other transcoding programs including DvdXCopy and DVDXcopyExpress.

Toolman18: I always rebooted after an uninstall because you just never know plus the way this software is so tempermental

Ireland: As I reported last night, I was able to get my first greenlight to burn in simple mode after I removed my DVD-RAM drive.

This left me with:
Yamaha F1E CD Burner
Plextor 708A DVD Burner
Pioneer 120S DVD-Rom

I also reported that I had multiple Couffin engines installed.

Today I removed Express and Platinum, rebooted, loaded Express, rebooted and then loaded Platinum.

Checked to see how many Couffin engines installed - only 1

Verified that I can burn in simple mode successfully:

1. Reading and writing to my Plextor 708A - like a single drive.

2. Reading from my Pioneer 120S and writing to my Plextor 708A.

I never had any problems using Express or DXC with my DVD-RAM drive installed before Platinum.

Platinum goes nuts during the install when I have my DVD-RAM drive installed. Multiple Couffin engines installed, Simple and advanced never works, just stalls after the reading process.

So just for grins:

1. All is working with 1 Couffin engine installed, reading and writing as a single drive or with dual drives.

2. Shut down the machine

3. Connect the power back to the DVD-RAM

4. Power up

5. 1 Couffin engine still installed

6. Settings still shows my Plextor as the drive of choice

7. Attempt to burn

8. Total failure, Simple or Advanced. Reads, never writes, says burn OK. HA!

9. Power Down, unplug DVD-RAM, power up

10. Still 1 Couffin Engine

11. Platinum fully functional in Simple or Advanced.

12. Successfully burns in Simple or Advanced.

Conclusion:
Guess I will not be using my DVD-RAM drive!

I would like to thank all of the efforts of:

Toolman18

Dengar

Ireland

without their help and suggestions I would still be frustrated and not have Platinum functional.

3 Cheers to you all!

P.S I never would have imagined that Platinum was so Drive specific.

toolman18,
Thanks for your advice, sweetheart. You're a doll, but this is a job for the major league boys - Ireland/Denger, I think. Your solution did not solve my problem completely. My computer now freezes up and I have to reboot everytime I try to use Plat. I may have to go back to using Gold, because Plat sucks. Also, I installed the Plat on my lover's PC and his machine (Athlon 2400XP windows XP home, Asus motherboard, Sony DRU500A burner, 1 GB RAM, 180 GB HD) is also acting strangely. Now he is dissed at me. I am beginning to think that this program is infected or something. I dont know why 321 had to release a buggy program. I know it works for some people and for a short while (Plat 3.0.1) it did for me too on my old 800 Mhz machine, until that machine died. Now my new PC is acting up. I have reinstalled XP twice. I will now try installing XP Pro to see if help me to get back on track.
You guys if you have any pull with 321, please ask those people to get the new version posted ASAP. I am dying here people!!

security,
I cannot burn period. Not to DVD+R, DVD+RW, or my lover's DVD-R and DVD-RW. This version of Plat sucks big time!!
I still have my copy of Gold so I think I'll try that tonight.

Well, I have to agree with most people who have tried relentlessly to get the DVDXCOPY PLATINUM 3.1.1 to do what its supposed to do. I have been trying for days now to make a back-up copy of K-PAX but to no avail. I have disabled / uninstalled the software on the BLACKLIST. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall of the DVDXCP 3.1.1 but still no back-up. All I'm able to do is have my movie READ in about 16-17 min, then all of a sudden a window pops up saying "Burn completed succesfully" when I know for sure that the movie was never BURNED since my burner's light never came on. What more do I have to do to get this software to work ? Then I thought I should try and download the TRIAL version of DVDXPRESS, so I did. I tried backing up the same movie, K-PAX, and again, step 1: Reading went well. I confirmed that the AUDIO_TS folder was created but was empty, the VIDEO_TS folder was also created and contained 10 files of 4.35 GB and, the ARCHIVE.txt file was also created. However as soon as step 1 was completed, step 2 showed: INSERT BLANK DVD, even though there was a blank dvd already inside my burner and, the START button remains greyed out. I have tried 3 different media, namely: VERBATIM DVD+RW/ FUJI DVD+RW/ MEMOREX DVD+R. None of these discs have been burned successfully, yet. Although these same discs were burned without any problem with DVDXCOPY 1.5 using the same Sony DRX-510UL firewire burner and played fine on my Panasonic DVD palyer.
Just when I was willing to convince my friends into buying this software, maybe I'm glad I didnt...

MY SYSTEM SPECS:
Toshiba Satellite Notebook/Windows XP Home with the latest service pack/P4/2.4GHZ/512MB RAM/40GB HDD/SONY DRX-510UL Firewire Burner with updated firmware. The 2 other video editing software on my system are: Pinnacle Studio 8 and Sonic MyDVD 4.5 ( neither of which interferred with DVDXCopy 1.5.2 ).

Anyone at 321 studios interested in resolving this problem ?????????????? PLEASE HELP !!!

Something for you guys to check is if you are running sp1 or sp1a. There is only one thing different in the 2 but it is a biggie. In sp1a microsoft had to pull the vm which is java so windows updates on system with sp1a will not get the java runtimes that could be needed. I just got a clients laptop running with dxcp and the pioneer 105 external. I did to many things to be sure but I think the java download is what did the trick. Give it a shot can get it here http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Hope this helps

Food for thought, before you install a new version , you must uninstall the old version first ,reboot then install the new version , then reboot again

Malcolm,
when you said ~"Also, in the Advanced mode it reads the DVD but burns it in a few seconds. I have tried this a few times and all turned out as coasters. At $3 per DVD this is costing me quite a bit."~
and i said ~"can you use rw discs for now?"~
what i mean is ..if those discs you call coasters were or are RW discs you can reuse them. if your paying 3$ a disc im thinking they are rw. so if they are dont throw them away

I noticed things have been a little quiet in the forum, but for those who are still having problems the fixes are coming, you just have to wait.

All of 321 Studios products are fantastic and they will get the job done, everything takes time.

I know some people are a little anxious but you have to have patience. If platinum is not working for you, use Dxc, Gold, express or whatever was working for you, until they get platinum up to par.

Why would anyone use -R or +R for testing? I know +rw cost a little bit more, but if you keep getting all those coasters you might as well buy +rw 1x - 2.4x until you get it working.

All the Mods on this forum is so helpful and I thank God for them, they put a lot of time and effort in trying to help everyone and I hope everyone appreciates them.

Good Luck to All
Have a Blessed Day
Thanks

Patience is easy for those of you who have another version of xcopy, but for those of us who have NOTHING else to fall back on it is difficult.

Sorry for posting 2x

I removed your double post. Stollery.
