Looks like I'll have to wait for the next version, got so close and no success. Using Windows 2000 Pro and internal Sony DRU-500A. Tried all the tricks I read here- installed over original Platinum installation. That got the advanced portion sorta' working, but simple mode (DXCX) will not recognize the clean disk to burn too- stays grey. Tried the safe mode trick/ took out the extra P/C engine. Put in DXCX 2.52 and installed Platinum- still can't get DXCX to recognize disk to burn too. I checked, and the temp folder I set up has all the correct VOB files, etc. Truly frustrating.
Am I totally confused (as usual) or does installing Platinum without uninstalling DXCX give you two copies of DXCX? Any ideas would be most appreciated. Meanwhile- went back to DXC and DXCX until the next try. Thanks for any help- igortwo
p.s. at least no 99% error messages now- so progress anyway.

I found the best way to run both or all 3 if wanted is to uninstall everything 321 related. Then install platinum in default folders then install whatever version of dxc and dxcx into different folders not the default ones.

do you think that would work because it forces windows to set up the registy to create different keys for the different 321 products in different folders? That just may be "key or part of the install problems.

It's working for me that way. I found if try to install platinum without removing all 321 products the preview function would not work right. After remove all then reinstall preview works great but standalone would act flakey. after remove all then reinstall plat in default then dxcx in another folder both plat preview is ok and standalone xpress is fine. Maybe kinda need 2 keys in regestry if going to run them together but seperate. If you got a system just for testing installs and the like Give it a test this way to see why I think this. Install platinum first and activate it. Then when you install xpress it doesnt require activation. The only reason for this can be that the install of xpress see the wpa for plat and then doesnt need for xpress. Another thing I noticed is on my 2 systems when looking at the internal version of the burning engine one is reporting internal version 1.13 and the other is reporting internal version 1.14. I do also use stand alone vso apps. They are on both systems though. That is how I am able to view internal version of patin coufin engine.

Sorry for the late reply. I was out for the weekend.
As some mentioned, the drive doesn't come back to DMA. I did a couple of tries (except removing them to be recognized again) and never changed from PIO mode.
Now, due to your comments I realized what was the problem! XRescue. I had a very bad DVD and tried it a couple of times with XRescue. Due to the many erros the drive was switched to PIO. I had to put the DVD-ROM external via USB 2.0 and worked very nice. I will try now deleting them to get them back to normal.

In regards to my post on Pg 53...
Thanks 4xburner for the suggestion...it solved my problem for the meantime. Yesterday I made two copies of K-19: The Widowmaker; one using Simple, the other using Advanced (Copying only the movie). When played back on my Denon DVD player, the copy made with Simple mode hesitated as expected (twice in the first 10 minutes). The copy made using Advanced played perfect, and the only hesitation was where the layer change of the original was. Thanks again for the idea 4xburner.
Now I have a different question: Obviously the video information is compressed to save space when copying a DVD. I'm wondering if the audio is compressed as well, or does it remain untouched?

Hey,
Was wondering if someone could help- up until today, ive had really no problem with the products. I just tried backing up "The Hot Chick" and got an "Error reading sectors" using both Platinum & Express versions. It happened about 90% into reading the disk. Is this caused by the disk itself, or a problem with the computer ?
Also, can someone tell me where to find the temp file that is saved onto the computer during the read process. After the "Error reading sectors" error appeared, I noticed I have 3gb of hard drive spaced used that I dont know how to clear up.

when you start platinum,look for settings click on it,it will show you where the temp files are going........I AM SURE ITS THE MOVIE...
TRY ANOTHER..AND SEE IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM........

Ireland: Been fighting all night long with this thing. Last night I had Express 2.5.2 working just fine. Today loaded Platinum tried to run in simple and the button is still grayed out. Have not removed Express yet. Noticed that I have multiple Couffin devices installed. Removed all but one and now if I go into drive select it is blank, no drives available.
Removed Express and Platinum, reloaded Express, selected drive, rebooted, loaded Platinum selected drive select. Went over to express looked in drive select and blank. Selected drive, went over to Platinum looked at drive select and blank. Starting over.
Reloaded Express, rebooted, reloaded Platinum, rebooted, removed Express, rebooted. Looked in drive select no drives for me to select.
It seems that if I touch any Couffin engines, manually or remove via uninstall of express, I lose all ability to select my drive in Platinum. Express Couffin conflicts with Platinum's. This is maybe why when it is time to write, it just sits there not knowing where to go.
I am tired and plan on removing all writeable drives except one tomorrow. Then based on Dengar's post, drive select is not an issue. I will try again with the load per your instructions and see what happens.

I HAVE ONLY ONE THING TO ASK YOU ARE THE PROGRAMS INSTALLING IN THE 321-FOLDER..AND NO WHERE ELSE?

Ireland: Yes they are all installed in the 321 folder only. I pulled my one DVD-RAM out loaded Express then Platinum, testing now. I checked and I have 3 Couffin engines loaded. If I do not abort rescue it loads a 4th one.
The other thing that makes we wonder, in simple mode when I install rescue, it states that the Pcouffin.sys is older than what is already loaded. each time I say no, and I get prompted 4 times. In regular mode, rescue just writes to the folder without prompting so no one knows what is really going on behind the scenes.
After this test, tomorrow, I will remove my Yamaha F1E so that I only have one burner in the machine and give it a try.

Ireland: Just got my first green light in Simple mode. It seems that multiple DVD writers is conflicting with the drive select between Express and Platinum. I will make sure tomorrow just in case making sure I did it right.
I still have 3 Couffin engines though. Will try to remove each one and see where it leads me.

platinum3.1.1 use file version 1.14. I just did an install of platinum on my laptop that has no burning app or no prior 321 installs to check for sure.

This link that ireland posted before may very well help you out http://download.vso-software.fr/patin-couffin_setup.exe That will install version 1.13 of pcouffin. If you are going to use it first uninstall all pcouffins from device manager then go into windows/system32/drivers and delete pcouffin.sys reboot system then run the install in that link to put in version 1.13

If you still have multiple VSO Devices,uninstall all 321 in Add/Remove.Delete the 321 Folder,make sure no VSO listed in Device Manager.Go to this site download the Pattin Cauffin Installer/Remover.Run it to remove Pattin Cauffin.Then try the install of the programs.

I have to leave a success story. I installed platinum 3.1.1 and have now completed 5 succesful backups including two eposodic discs. I had nothing but failure with recent express versions, so i uninstalled the lot xcopy and express. I have installed platinum and as i said the world is all bright again.

It appears that V3.1.1 was removed from the support link. 321 has reverted back to V3.1. I think I'm sticking with Gold for a little while longer until Platinum stabilizes. Why 321 was in such a rush to release Platinum is beyond me. We all could have waited a little longer for a more reliable product.
