Did you try using your burner to both read & write?
I was having the same problem with my internal reader and external firewire burner (Panasonic) until I used the burner for both jobs. Now it reads the disc and then prompts me to insert a blank - and it works!

Also, eliminating the last title from disks that are giving the 99% copy error, most always allows a perfect burn (sometimes it's not the last but the first or whatever - you have to play around).

Hopefully, the next release will correct these problems.

Ireland: When I installed via safe mode, I finish then go into drive select only to see none of my drives. Also, I removed platinum, booted into safe mode, installed platinum only for it to say that the Couffin driver I am about to install is older than the one I am about to install, do I want to install?

KREJ: I read the disk from my writer, installed by blank, never getting my start button to turn green. It was like I never put in a disk.

I just went to devices (VSO) and saw that I have 4 Couffin engines installed. I will remove Platinum, the Couffin engines, reload in safe mode, read and write with my burner and see what happens.

Drive select will not show any drives if you only have one dvd burner.

Drive select exists so if you have more than one dvd burner you can select which one you want to use with that project.

Dengar: I also have a DVD-RAM drive installed in this machine too. After unloading all 321 and Coffin engine, installed in safe mode. Drive select worked and allowed me to select my 708A.

I have yet to run the program but I checked and I have 2 Coffin engines installed under VSO devices. Why I cannot tell you I would think I would have 1.

Running the first test now.

Also, the Pcoffin.sys driver did it again, saying that what is in the system dir is newer than what is about to be installed. This popped up during the Rescue installation. I did not make it clear last post.

In Simple mode, read the whole disk, popped in the blank disk, just sat there. Button was grayed out so I could not begin.

Removed 1 of the 2 Coffin devices, now I only have 1 under VSO, running in Advanced now to see what happens.

Hansel - I'm using a PX-708A as well. It seems to write fine, but disks written under Platinum don't close properly. (They can be closed with DVD Decrypter.) I understand that 321 has now received a PX-708A, and is testing with it.

Anyway, reference your extra copies of the Couffin drivers, did you install any other software that uses them? For example, I think BlindWrite also uses these drivers.

I am using a Plextor PX-504-A and I havent had any drive related problems that I know about.

Since I installed Platinum 3.1.1, I have had no problems at all except for the grayed out areas and I can wait until they are implimented. I was using DVD+RW disks for a while and transfering the movie to a DVD+R after I was sure it was working, but now I just copy directly to a DVD+R disk..:o)

While I'm on the subject of updates, mods, when do you expect the next update for Platinum?

Wmcdowel: No this is a clean boot with just XP and Platinum. Why 2 Coffin devices, I do not know other than one for Platinum and the other for Rescue. It asked me about over writing Pcoffin.sys when installing Rescue after Platimun was installed.

Hansel - that's really weird. I have Platinum and Rescue installed as well, but my setup only shows one copy of the drivers. (I'm on XP, SP1, but far from a clean boot - I've got tons of other stuff installed, including several other burning programs.)

Wmcdowel: Yes I know. Prior to the clean boot, I had gobs of software installed including DXC and Express. All worked fine and I only had 1 Pcoffin device installed. So far Platinum is the only one giving me problems.

It gets even weirder. Prior to the clean boot, when I removed Platinum, it removed Express' icon and not platinum. Neither one would work.

Does any get a feeling as to which runs the apps better, Win98SE or XP Home Ed? Any input from the Mods? I have been thinking about switching but (this is going to sound STUPID!) I don't know if I like the GUI. Does anyone know if you can get XP's skin to look like Win98Se. By that I mean NOT all those goofy soft, roundy, smoothy look icons and buttons. I like the crispness of 98. My son was telling me that you can even use a Mac looking skin. Anyone know. I know this seems off the subject but if Plat will run better on XP (and then, Mods, which version?) and I can get the GUI to look like 98 then I would switch in 4 1/2 minutes. It seems that I am one of the few here running 98SE, correct?

i used xp,did not like it and gave the xp-pro disk away..,i have 3-computers 2-with 2000 pro and one 98se,,,,,,98se using a gigabyte mother board no problems with dvdxcopy programs..only problems with 98se max ram that can be used is 512...and has to be rebooted 3 or 4 times most of the time with use,2000 is on days at a time until it has to be booted.....and that is only if i install a new program....

I don't know which runs better, depends on your apps, legacy or current....

But if you want that look of 98se, you can switch it to classic windows appearance (It's actually more like w2000 appearance).

I don't like all the gaudy stuff myself, so I run the classic.

noexit,
you can right click on the desktop of window xp(just like any others) and then select "windows classic" as your theme. This is from what I remember, pretty close to windows 98 looking stuff. I'd suggest finding an XP machine and try changing the theme to windows classic to see if you like it better.

I've had 4 computers with windows 98 on them and now have 5 with XP. I've had lots less trouble with XP in terms of stability, and the 321 studios products have worked very well with it. I'm using XP home edition.

Seems that I got advanced to work after removing the 2nd Pcoffin from the VSO devices. I installed per irelands instr thru safe mode. It is playing now in my Pioneer player. I burned with my Plextor 780A

I still cannot get Simple to work. I place either a RW or R in and the button is just grayed out so I cannot continue.

Any suggestions?

Ireland: Removed Platinum and installed Express 2.5.2 from safe mode. It is burning to my RW as we speak. Tomorrow I will reload Platinum via safe mode, reboot, leaving Express 2.5.2 then attempt to burn.

Another JOKE:

i tried contacting plextor support for some questioning about recognizing 708 as a dvd and a cdrom (2 separate machines).
this was their anwser:
"
Dat is een normale detectie van apparaten onder windows xp.
Zoals ik al reeds vermeld heb kan ik u niet verder helpen met dit probleem.
De enige correcte manier die ik zie is om het hele systeem te formatteren en
van nul te herinstalleren. "

Translation:
-it normal detection for XP to see dvd and cd rom.
-they cant help me with my problem
-The only correct way he sees is to "format" the complete system and reinstal everything...

Damned right it worked! I'm gonna do all my installs in "Safe Mode" from now on and see how much more heart-burn I can avert.

Start Windows, or if it is running, shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart, and then try again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

spideymac - glad it worked, but be reminded that some programs will not install in the Safe Mode as they need access to some of the files etc, Safe Mode removes in it's bare bones type boot process.
