I installed DXCP 3.1.0 about a month ago and couldn't get DXR to work: it would open, but the cursor was always an hourglass when it was over the DXR window. All the buttons on the toolbar were gray except maybe a couple. So I read a few threads and uninstalled some software (EZCD, CDRAO, etc), rebooted a few times, but didn't have time to reinstall.

Finally tonight, I dl'ed 3.2.0 and installed it, and I get the same thing: the cursor is an hourglass and the toolbar is gray, except Select a Different Device, Eject, and Adjust Read Attempts. When I move across the column headings, the cursor becomes a normal pointer, and when I cross a line, it goes double-headed, and I can change the column widths. The status bar just says "Preparing access to DVD content", even after I hear the drive spin down (only about 30 seconds of hi-speed). I can click on the folder list in the L pane, and the file list in the R pane changes, but the cursor is always an hourglass and the buttons stay gray. I've set the read attempts to 1, but it doesn't seem to help. The Eject & Change Device buttons don't seem to work, even though they're not gray, and I can't close the program: I have to use Task Manager, and then End Now to close it.

Ideas?

You might want to contact 321 with this problem. Ask them if they need you to run the command line debug that is in rescue.

Catching them at the phones could be difficult: I work 8-5 (central time) weekdays and commute ~45min each way.

Just wanted to let you know that there is a new version of Rescue coming out very soon. This issue has been fixed, we had several of the test machines in the QA lab that had this issue and with the latest version not a one showed this bug.

But also, to make sure you know the limitations of the program. There is one section of the DVD that if there is damage to it your chance of Rescueing the disc is highly decreased, but might still be possible. The inner ring , also called the OPC ring, basically tells your computer that the DVD is a DVD and not a ring of paper in your drive. If you have a DVD that does not come up even in Rescue, check that ring for damage. But remeber before you rescue any disc, clean it first. This can be the differance between a fail and a perfect Rescue

In my case, I'm using new-out-of-the-box DVDs and getting errors using DXC and DXCX, so there's no damage or contamination; probably just a flaw in the original mastering or something.

My problem is that DXR doesn't seem to fully start - the cursor is ALWAYS an hourglass over the DXR window. I'm sure it's not an issue with my DVDs since they all play flawlessly in my computer and my settop player. The problem is between my system and DXR.

I had the same problem. I thought that it just took a long time but I waited over an hour and the hour glass was still up and it hadn't started yet. However I fixed the problem by telling DVDXR to use my DVD-R Drive. For some reason it was trying to get the information off my DVD-Rom drive. So if you have two different drives like I do I bet that is your problem. I hope this helps.

I just installed 3.2.1 tonight, and it worked great. ...on the first disk. Now that I tried another one, it's doing the same thing. On the first one, it never asked me which device to use; it automatically read from the ROM. After 24 minutes of copying, it asked me where to write, and then it did NOTHING. So I started it again and it made a good copy. I closed DXR to play the copy, and when I reopened it, it behaves JUST like before. I'll try rebooting tomorrow.

PROGRESS....................

With the latest release of Platinum, I've successfully recovered 6 DVDs that wouldn't back up normally, but the one that first gave me problems with DXR is holding out. The Man Who Knew Too Much (Alfred Hitchcock Special Edition - LaserLight 82023 - R0 - UPC 018111202336) is the one that originally caused DXR to hang, and it still does. Apparently, it's the source of the problem because, when DXR analyzes it, I don't even get the splash prompt to press the "Rescue" button with the "Don't show this again" checkbox. I got it with the other 6, and I still do if I put them back in.

I think this is going to turn out to be a VERY technical issue that the programmers will have to address, since it seems to be an interaction between this particular disk (or maybe the error on my copy) and some portion of the analysis phase of DXR.

I have been having the exact same problem as Steve83.
I am a DVD X Copy Platinium (DXCP) customer. I had receiced DVD X Rescue (DXCR) with the DXCP. I am currently using DXCP 3.2.1. When I tried to to use DXCR recently I was not able to make the program restore my scratched DVD. All the buttons are grayed and the only ones working are the eject and the one that lets you change the number of times the scan is performed. The DVD play on my DVD Player but it will not let me back up the DVD using DXCP. I get an error message indicating disk error. When I try to Rescue it with DXCR it get stuck on the opening screen. The program seems to read the name of the DVD but does not proceed further. The name of the DVD I am trying to back up is Changing Lanes.
Please help.

I had to uninstall Platinum 3.2.1 and work with 3.1.1 to make my system work at all. DVD Rescue doesn't work. It keeps telling me there's no device to read the disc. It is like I have no DVD burner. Is this a problem because I deleted the newest Platinum version and installed an older version? How do I get Rescue to recognize my drive?

In my case, DXR works normally on all but this one disk - "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1934). I'm sure it's a particular problem on the original DVD since mine is in pristine condition. It just won't copy with DXC or DXCX.
