can not split the chapters in half so that 2 episodes are on one disc and 2 are on another .when i try to back up this way after start to burn new disc after a few seconds i get a burn is finished message.

I moved your TDF request here. A TDF file will not help you with your problem. TDF`s are designed to pick one and only one title set. To force DXCX so to speak to burn that and only that title. Episodic discs like Smallville, by their very name have more than one, in your case four title sets. So a TDF will not work.
You need to use the entire disc option in DXC Express or pick the title sets you want with DXC Platinum.
