This is my first posting to the forum. I bought DXC Gold in July. I had a few minor problems that were worked out pretty quickly. I was able to back up movies but not episodic discs. I should add that I had no luck with versions 3.0 or 3.0.2 so I stayed with 2.0. When I spoke with someone at 321, before I ordered, I was told I would be entitled to the Platinum upgrade. This meant nothing to me at the time but as I read the postings over the next 2 months I began to look forward to it to see what improvements would be made. As promised, I was able to download Platinum yesterday.
The first DVD I tried to backup was Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 disc 1. I had no luck with Gold doing it. With Platinum I tried using the Advanced tab. Chose the main title set with the four episodes only. I was worried about quality so I chose to split it onto two disks. The read went fine but the burn lasted only seconds and all I got was a blank disc.
Today I decided to try again. I again used the Advanced tab, chose only the main Title set but allowed the compression. It said it would compress 38%. It worked wonderfully! the disc plays on my computer, plays on my stand alone Toshiba player, and the quality is great. It appears to have used the whole disc. Also, I used the same blank disk I had previously tried to burn to, so atleast I know it wasn't turned into a coaster. To me, being able to copy an episodic disc is a great improvement over Gold.
I'm not having a lot of the problems that I've read about on here. My previews seem to work, and I don't have any of the freezing problems. My dvd burner does show up as yyy| but it appears it works with the program anyway. I realize there are features that aren't functioning yet but I'm willing to wait. I think this is a great program and I couldn't be happier. A help file would be great though.
I am running this on a newer HP (a250n) with XP SP 1 and a HP burner (300n). I left Gold installed and it doesn't seem to be interfering with Platinum that I can tell. This is the first, and only, DVD backup program that I have used.
Sorry for the long read and forgive me if I've left out any information I should have included. I've learned a lot from this forum and I wanted to post a positive story from a happy user. Thanks!
Shawn :)

I use a Samsung DVD-CDRW combo for ripping model SM-348B and a Sony DRU-510A for recording. If I use the Sony for ripping it adds about 8 minutes to the times. The rest of the system is..

Initial Comments:
I want to thank Mr. Moore and the 321 employees for all the efforts to provide a great product. They may not be perfect, but they sure try hard.
Comments:
I scan from time to time (too infrequent, thus I tend to miss good postings) and have found excellant suggestions. It might be beneficial for 321 to create a program which "inventories" the PC configuration, drivers etc either as a log file which they and the user can evaluate if there are problems OR a file which actually offers suggestions, potential conflicts or problems etc. It appears I may have fixed one of my naggings problems from a previous post regarding which ASPI version might work best (4.6 etc). I have 5 bootable W2K Pro partitions on 1 80G and 80G storage on the 2nd hd. The 5 partitions allows me to customize security (from maximum to least secure - least secure is where I will get best results from DVDXCopy).
Specifically - Platinum Problems
1st attempt at The Matrix - WS failed. Attempted to make 1 dvd, read was ok, then major error with reference to a log file (which I could not find). Checked everything, rebooted and tried again. No joy. On 3rd attempt, it appears I have made a 2 good dvd backup. About 33% thru watching on my 321 backup dvd. Was able to preview once I made selections. I see a potentially great product only getting better if 321 is allowed the time and provided with decent feedback.
Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra, W2K SP3, Intel 2.4G P4, 2 ea 512M Corsair PC 2700, 2 ea Maxtor 80G 7200RPM ATA133, Pioneer A04, LG GCC-4320BI DVD 16x + CD-RW 32x10x40 Combo Drive, ATI AIW 8500DV, and loving it....

stric9,security,
Yea,I tried that also during the test to see why Entire Disk feature was not working in Platinum.Uninstalled my original Express thinking something was causing a conflict, then reinstalled Platinum still no go with the Entire Disk enabled. Reinstalled Express 3.0 and that still works fine both ways.I have only backed up 3 so far using the Advanced Mode and they have all worked fine.

Platinum does not work for me. It tells me burn was sucessful when no burn occurred. Seems like they release another beta version. Going back to Express 2.5.2 the last one I had good results with. It seems like we are beta testers for 321.

Hi, have Platinum working with no problem
System info:
Windows XP,Pioneer A05,PowerDVD XP,RNM,DVDXCopy Express (uninstalled before Platinum installation) and finally DVDXCopy Platinum.
Also have adaptec aspi.471a2 installed (even though don't have scsi device, it suppose to improve communication between PC and DVD-RW).
And I have v3.0.0 installed instead of v2.0.0
Program recognize my Pioneer-A05 no problem.
And preview video is no problem under select titles...I can preview individual titles under each titleset.
Since there are no instruction...If you mutliply the total dvd size with the percentage of the overall compression meter...it will equal to about 4.3 Gig. Which in a way is kind of locking the compression to utilize the maximum of a disc.
Have not try simple or rescue yet. But simple look very similar to DVDXcopy Express. That's why I have uninstalled Express first.
Also did not install original DVDXCopy.
Conclusion:
Platinum compression seems to be better than Express since Express still have the over compression problem and not utilizing the whole disc. I think 2.5.1 Express is still the most stable version.
As I stated before Platinum seem to lock the compression at about 4.3G level.
Regards
Also remember drive select will not do anything if you have only one device that write CD/DVD..it will pick that drive as default.

Has anyone noticed that the 100% money back guarantee sticker on the home page for purchasing platinum has disappeared, I preordered platinum on 28/8/03 for download, as I was unsure if I was entitled to a free upgrade, which apparently I am, downloaded it on 5/9/03, and it doesen't work, all I get is the option to preview video, all the other buttons, i.e. compression - burn - next are greyed out, the only part of the programme that works is express which I already had working fine. This programme does not work for me at all, have e-mailed tech support - no reply, have e-mailed sales for return of my £100 ($149.99) no reply...
As far as I can see, customer services and support for platinum is non existent....

bobchale, curt99, ireland, & others having problems with USB 2 drives - I also see a lot of posts about problems with external USB drives on the Roxio forums. Here's an interesting article on Microsoft's site you might want to look at - apparently, Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 have problems with USB 2 drives - the problem might be in the OS, not in the DVDXcopy software.
no thats not the problem i have...only it happens with platinum..i put a internal in it burned with no problem with platinum...
i have 3-external burners and 2-internal drives on three computers..dvdxcopy ,roxio, nero no problems seeing the externals...with 2.0 or firewire...

I have installed Platinum and have problems like others.
To help try and understand the problem I have used "Viewlets" (www.qarbon.com) to record what I am experiencing (maybe other might like to try it too - it's free !)
When it get to the Preview screen (it doesn't show on the playback) I get the mouse flicking at high speed between pointer and hour-glass and a sound something similar to a "chopper" in the background. This lasts about 3-5 second then - nothing.
It is not for me to suggest - OK it is. In order to get a good idea of what people are experiencing maybe they too might use Viewlets. Then we can SEE what you are doing, save an awful lot of to-ing and fro-ing with postings. Just a thought.

hey all i have downloaded platinum, it certainly looks different, as has been previously and negatively noted.
i am not one for complaining since i have been nothing but satisfied with this company's products and sincere dedication to its many, many customers.
But...having been a beta tester and contributing Jr Member of this forum(in small parts:-)), i must point out things that i happen to notice with my PC and Software configuration.
1. download seemed a bit sketchy, compared to previous DL's.
2.Seem to be missing something in GUI, aesthetic at worse.
3.made a successful back up with dvd x rescue of a damaged disk(Fantasia).
However it copied it in entire disk mode and there is very noticeable pixelation, prob due to the size >8G and it was not utilizing the full disk space for a +R.
4. seem to notice that when i was able to make a simple back up, currently unable and do not know why, that the version of xpress used was 2.0 anyone else notice this? and if so why, and why not 2.5.2?
5. trying to backup topgun and am now getting the error cannot find the bouducon handle, in simple and advanced, any thoughts?
in advanced i only selected titleset for wide screen, ironically the smaller titleset.
well these are my observations, if anyone wants to know my system just let me know
one happy(to finally have a new software to sink my teeth into) dad,
ben
ps. thank you Mr. Moore and the wonderful staff at 321 for a wonderful series of extremely excellent software, keep on doing what you guys do best, striving for perfection!
Separately, I wish to thank the Mods and forum members for making life just a little bit easier, and longer for my DVD collection.

newshot,
You obviously haven't seen my post and link. I started Platinum and did as you suggested, I picked my new D:\DVDTEMP (dedicated to 321) directory and lo and behold - it fails to start.

Uninstalled Platinum for now. Can't make it work. Patiently waiting now for Titanium, which should be really hard to break.

Hi Mark 326,
Notice you running Windows XP, should update aspi to the latest XP version...v4.71.2...I have been running that version with no problem.
V4.60 is stable with Windows 98SE and below.
Although designed with SCSI devices in mind...this application also improve communication for IDE system between PC and CD/DVD burning applications.

I am a gold member, I installed Platinum, lost my drives from the drop down list.
uninstall platinum
reboot
try again with gold, no list
uninstall gold
reboot
install platinum
no list
uninstall platinum
everything uninstalls but PLATINUM express which stays in my START menu under PLATINUM folder (hmmm) with NO uninstall option (not in add/remove programs in control panel either). Check properties, still points to a platinum folder (WTF)
reboot
install my gold version again
reboot
drive selector STILL BLANK
Express does not start (this is gold by the way)
Start xcopy GOLD, no drive selected. Try a copy, still copies. Hmmmm
Download ASPI? checker. Checks out with version 3.6, all good...
pray and cross fingers, reboot
check drive selector (still empty)
Wonder when I will get my drives back..and my express working again. (weird thing is I can select my drives in X RESCUE-inside the program)
Now its not an issue of just uninstalling platinum and going back to gold, because after installation i lost my drive select features.
Troubleshooting I have tried without success:
Uninstall DVD player, reboot, XP reinstalls dvd drive. No.
Reinstall DVD drivers (why, other programs work). No.
Install and reinstall combination of Xcopy, no success.
Check system devices for any exclaimation marks, none.

Whith Platinum I can use the simple mode and the rescue, and can use advanced as long as I use compression, advanced also works with DVDS that split between two DVDS, but will not read rhe DVD if it will fit on one DVD, what gives?
Thanks In Advance;

We have been dancing around the issue of compatibility. Is there a 321 employee out there that can tell me if Platinum can coexist with Express 3.0 on the same computer. I have downloaded Platinum but am afraid to install it because of all the problem messages.
Thanks

Tried Platinum last night/today and get same problem each time: at end of reading disk, get an 'error occured reading sectors' and 'unreadable DVD'. This happens only after entire disk appears to be read.
Wondering- among other things- I've had DXC/DXCS in seperate program folders. Following this line, I put Platinum in a seperate folder of its own too. I see in the programs list- both DXCX and DXC and Platinum. Wondering if the Patin Couffin engine got messed up on install when it tried to update the engine (set at 2.52) to 3.0? When I tried the older DXCX, it also gave me the error message- assume since using same engine.
Question- uninstalled Platinum, before re-install; should I uninstall DXCX (to avoid confusion) and put Platinum in its own folder or put in folder with DXC? (also have DVD Copy Plus in its own folder, but doubt that's an issue)
Question- can you do the replace the 3.X vso_hwe.dll with the 2.52 version? Do I want to? Finally, if I re-install DVCX version 2.52- will it be affected by Platinum install? I have 3.0 now with the 2.52 .dll.
Sorry for such a long post- just don't want to mess up further. Things others reported seen too- blank preview screen, etc. Running Windows 2000 Pro/SP4 with all the patches. Appreciate any help on this. Thanks ahead of time- igortwo
edit: forgot- after saw post below- have DRU-500A (internal) also with latest firmware. Worked fine with previous models.

I wanted to also say that I have a Sony DRU500A burner. After installing Platinum I can't get any of the features of the software to work like those mentioned above. I can preview the title but that is it.
I have re-downloaded the software and re-installed it and the same problem occurs.

One of your experiences is the same as I've had a coupla times before with bouducon.dll. I solved it by going back to the DVDXCopy Xpress TDF ED 2.5.0 folder and retrieveing the break out TDFEdit.exe and TDFEdit.dll files and copy them into the Platinum folder. That solved my bouducon problem for me. See if it works for you :-)
