There are about 20 to 30 movies (DVDs) that don't lend themselves tosingle disc copying and I find that out the hard way (coaster). About 90% of Anime'function as episodic and I know to try them first on RWs. However, some discs just won't copy and these are especially the >150 min discs. Then again, I come across Lonesome Dove (300) and DXCX v3 makes a perfect entire single disc copy. Go figure. I provided all this info to the "bugs" who rarely respond but they did respond and said some of the glitches were software and some were do to the dics themselves and they were clearing it up. I probably get more coasters tha you guys because I don't have the patience to (trial) burn the same movie (twice). If I find I can't get it on a single disc (DXCX) I burn 2 discs using DXC. I've also reported that DXC will say it can fit the entire movie (DVD) on a single disc and when you try, it fails to burn successfully. My biggest failures have been trying to burn +Rs with this damn Sony DRU 500A. For some reason its extremely tempermental about burning +Rs successfully. Go figure..............I'll keep trying until Platinum debuts.

This damn board is getting so slow on implementing replys/posts. I can't wait that long to edit/P.S./addendum my replys, so I'll just make another Reply: does anyone know where I can get some Khypermedia +RWs in extra slim double cases for under $16/10cs? Preciate it if you can turn me on to some.

spideymac - why not simply do a refined search om the net and you'll find them yourself? Still, seems to me I see them on Ebay from time to time.

oneacer: I said previously that I ordered those Optodiscs (+RWs) and I wouold let you know the verdict. Since I found out that -RWs are more compatible with DVD hardware, I changed that order to 50pk DVD-RW Optodiscs from Shop4Tech. If it turns out good, I'll let you guys know. I also ordered 50pk Leda (Princ-something) DVD-Rs. I'll report on those also.

security -
The Maxell -R's at Office Depot are 2x. Mfg'd in Japan by Maxell. I've used about 25 of them before and they worked great (NEC-1300A). From reading posts on various boards, they are generally regarded as excellent quality.
I picked up 30 of the -R's Sunday. The counter person was nice enough to let me run two separate purchases to save a trip back to the store.
I still use the standard jewels for some storage also, which I normally pick up for .20/ea or more. So actually disk-wise for me, it comes out to 1.12 each + tax which is a very good deal IMO.
The +R's I believe are Mfg'd in Taiwan by Ricoh. Should be 2.4x, however a poster on the DVDRhelp board said there were some 4x +R boxes mixed in at their local store. I haven't used these yet personally, so no notes here.
Anyways, hope the info helps. Good luck!

hey security,
i am where i am!
havent gotten any new "brands" as of yet.
However did sneak off to Best buy and picked up their fuji+r(50Pack) for $69.99, i dont like waiting too long for shipping;-)
these are definitely different from the 25 packs of the same brand, they are all silver and are a little harder to write on(in ink) but they burn just as expected, excellent man.
a little off topic...i just opened my case and replaced a removable hard drive cage with one i modded--needed to separate the HDD due to over heat...And i put in some round ide cables and since i had the bad boy open i changed my jumpers to cable select on my dvdrw/rom. read somewheres that someone had very fast rips and burns from this setting, thought i'd give it a go and see for myself.
was it dengar?
any way will let you know how it goes, wish me luck;-p
one happy, lovin' to tear sh1t apart, dad

Hi All,
As you all know, My choice of media is the Leda +RW from shop4tech.com. This is to let you know that I just ordered a 25 pack of their Optodisk. It is more expensive in the 25 pack (1.99 each) but I want to see how this brand measures up. I will report back when I start burning on them. It states that Phillip's drives are one of their supported drives and I have the earlier Phillip's model.

ace give us the break down from ease of ordering to final playback. i see rwg is ok with the -rw opto but i have + like you .
who uses a dry erease marker on there rws?
i tested a coaster cd disc and it came right off. other wise its sharpie all the way
serious you want help finding those posts about cable select?
also i hear you may need to have the faster reader as the master but i dont remeber who said that. i think someone (maybe glass) started a basic pc question and configuration thread and if not someone should break it down like that oh well im babbling when i should be burning ..see ya

For what it's worth, I also have my drives set on " cable select ". That is what my old cdrom was set at and I put my new DVD.Rom at the same setting. Works great !

thats a good deal i clicked on compusa and it is listed at 99.00 today (sat)
have you used compusa rebates before
hey all should be time to start getting our rebates back from past bestbuy purchases
hows everyone doing? denied? paid?
looking at toolmans deal vs shop4techs new arita brand the fujis are still cheaper if you get paid your rebate
im still waiting for acer to burn a +rw opto
myself..im getting sick of the rebate forms /envelopes / stamps / post office /wait /recieve /deposit /clear/respend..
i think im gonna run out my suplies and get a bulk order with no rebates involved
but i gotta admit toolmans 60.00=50 discs is a good one (i think i can taste stamp glue already)
if i said "dont have a cow man" would you realy think i was bart simpson?

security,
The Phillips +R's should be 2.4x I picked some up a few weeks back when OD had them on sale. They are mfg'd in Taiwan by CMC.
Some will avoid the CMC's because of their quality reputation. However, I haven't read complaints about Phillips branded CMC's anywhere and they have worked very well for me. I've used Verbatim branded CMC's also with no problems. Just an FYI though, in case anyone wants to know the manufacturer.
On another note: Last day (or hours now) to pick up on those Maxells, all...
I went in OD this afternoon check on the +R's and they were completely out of stock. So, I was able to get them to substitite 4x +R Verbatim 5-Packs instead ;)

i found the following link using search function
http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/20871 can you tell me more about cmc?
i already use a spread of low cost media.
(see this thread) such as fuji/imation/verbatim datalifeplus/optima/
have i been using any cmc in those brands?
i have a phillips burner and expect the phillips brand should work well.
i am interested in your information and cant find much more using search features
thanks
ps:
(whats your burner mod & #)?

I am using Ritek double sided G03 and a stack of printable generics I picked up at the computer show when I bought my pioneer A05 drive.
I have had no problem with the Generics, and only 1 problem with a disk that could not be read after burn with the 9.4 Gig Ritek.
From the cdspeed info tip listed in the link above I found out the "generics" I am using are actually TDK 2x! I think I am going to pick up more of them in a few weeks when the show comes around again.

Picked up the Fuji 50 spindle @ CompUSA this morning. From the number of other people carrying them around, I doubt they'll last the week.

security,
CMC magnetics has a poor reputation with their CD-R blanks and I think this carried over to DVD. Some people won't buy them or just relate anything CMC to low quality. As for myself, I like to make my own judgements unless I hear of many people complaining of specific problems.
Personally, I've only had 2 failures burning with once writes (either format). They were on the Fuji +R's (Ricoh) and likely my fault. (Didn't shut down my NAV).
The CMC's that I've used worked great for me, so I have no reason to knock them myself.
Here are some sites that I visit for to check for info/opinions on optical storage.
I usually put little stock in the generalized opinions but do take note of specific issues.
The only disks that I have actually avoided are the Khypermedia and the CompUsa Packaged Lead Data Disks. I had read various posts about people having problems burning over 4 gig on these.
As far as my burner, I have an NEC-1300A. Here is a media listing of what I have used (country / manufacturer).
I haven't purchased bulk online, yet. With all of the sales that have been going over the last 3 months, I really haven't had any problems finding low priced media locally.
Hope the info helps!
