Well, I get 1.5.0 working (after a wipe of the operating sys driver) and now we have 1.5.2. Good for you guys at 321. I uninstalled 1.5.0 and deleted the 321 dir, rebooted, installed 1.5.2 and rebooted. I am now burning The General's Daughter. Of course, if I had waited 1 more week I wouldn't have had to wipe my drive. WTF, it needs to be wiped oocaisionally anyway just to get rid of the crap. I'm still burning disk 1 but it looks good. Thanks 321.
RS P.S. What happened to 1.5.1???

I burned a total of 5 movies with 1.5.0 (made a bunch of coasters in the process). Then I read about a problem with chapter splitting in 1.5.0 that may or may not be present in version 1.5.2. So I took a look at my 5 copies, and couldn't really tell much of anything.

Is the nature of the error such that it doesn't split at a chapter point, or is it that it doesn't split where it says it splits? Also, does the "mis-splitting" it cause you to lose any of the movie (tough for me to tell when swapping discs, since there won't be any visible discontinuity as a giveaway)?

For example, it told me that Fast Times at Ridgemont High had 19 chapters and would split before chapter 18. But the DVD menu only lists 18 chapters...all of which appear to be recorded on disc 1!!!

Can anybody shed light for me? And confirm (or deny) that this problem does not also exist in 1.5.2!

As an aside, my disc 1 of The Ring starts in defaults to French. Disc 2 doesn't...odd.

Ireland, Intersting remarks from Mr. Moore. I bought on 1/26 so, obviously I am a happy camper. As for the Platinum release being the end-all final or perfect product, I don thin so.
He did mention some surprises...could be interesting. I have to say that 321 has responded to the 1.5.0 issues nicely. Yeah, they never should have existed but, I myself have to stand behind 321.

According to Mr. Moores statement anyone who purchased DXC *after 1/31/03* directly from 321 studios will be entitled to a free upgrade to Platinum as long as they purchase before DXC Express is released. For those people waiting to spend their money on Platinum rather than purchase the current DXC version have no reason to wait any longer. That is GOOD news for those that are waiting.

Irish, glad you got it lad, I'm not sure where he is, Whisperer I mean. Please remember your ISP, if (dialup) can cause you some headaches, when trying to download on a busy site, and especially the size of DXC's file has grown.

I am Glad for ya though, I haven't had any problems with V1.5.2.

Take care,

They released 1.5.1 last week in Europe. They fixed a couple of spelling errors and releasd 1.5.2 to us yesterday. They both have identical code.

Not everyone experiences splitting problems. I am so I'll tell you what I experience.

The default chapter split for me is always in the middle of a chapter, not at the begining like it should be. Nine times out of ten if I leave it at the default split I do not lose any of the movie. However, every once in awile I do.

There is an EASY fix to this though. When you first open DXC you must preview the split. Then go back and change the split. Once you change the split preview it again and you will see the movie at the begining of the chapter you have specified.

This works even if DXC won't let you change the split point. For example, if it says the movie will be split at chapter 14 click on it and try to change it to 15. Even if it won't let you, if you now preview it will display the proper point in the movie.

If I have made this EASY workaround too confusing please private message me and I'll walk you through it. It really is a very simple fix.

And remember that not everyone has a split point issue, so you may not.

"Is the nature of the error such that it doesn't split at a chapter point, or is it that it doesn't split where it says it splits?"

Answer: Both. It doesn't split at chapter points, but it always splits at what is on the preview screen.

"Also, does the "mis-splitting" it cause you to lose any of the movie?"

Answer: Not very often, but sometimes.
They can have my DXC when they pry it from my cold, dead, fingers.

No they will be fine. Think of it like a blank VCR tape. There is no need to erase it before you record another show on it. The principle is much the same.

You can format it at any time.

Today I started a burn on a +rw, but I canceled it. If I had done that to a +r or -r I would have ruined the disk. With A +rw, next time I want to use I just need to do a quick erase and everything will be A-OK.

VICMAKEY yes you can!
you can reformat or quick or full erase the disk over and over

16 Apr 2003 8:31 PM
thanks all that was a great response time ! now i think i remeber someone saying that if you put a used +rw in dxc it will offer to erase it ? or does it just write OVER it (or is that the same thing?)

I have seen DXC do both. I have seen it just go ahead and write over the disk, and I have seen it ask me what it wants me to do.

Also, I answered the question in the private message that you sent me. See if that helps.

I just tried to download. I get a screen that says page cannot be displayed. Anyone else experiencing this?

16 Apr 2003 9:28 PM
dengar - I always burn to +RW first and though I have a few RWs set aside specifically for DXC and normally allow DXC to write over them time and time again, I occasionally come across one that's a bit cranky. I have no idea why, but it'll spit it out and refuse the burn until I do a quick format. My recollection is that it's happened to me with numerous, if not all, versions of DXC, at one time or another, so I'm use to it. Small price to pay for such a good little program.

Yes my burner is at the latest firmware from the Sony website. I'm really not sure if this has anything to do with anything but the drive in use has a 1394 connection. I have read that it shouldn't. I only suspect that it might due to the low volume of problems that I have read about on the forum concerning USB devices.
My old system (a desktop)had the same burner but was an internal drive. It worked well with XCopy. Switched to the laptop with an external drive and bam. The only solution to date to correct the problem has been to use Nero. As long as that is the only hiccup I guess I really can't complain. Just thought I would pass on the info, maybe to find out if any plans were to look at firewire burners in a future release. Like I said before if I didn't have to use a 3rd party software to get the job done I wouldn't.

Is the firmware for your burner up to date?

Gear may have a problem with the USB burner that you are using, but the Gear burning should, for the most part, work much better in V1.5.2.

FRIDAY still does not backup...Same symptoms as previous versions...

Thanks. I just watched my copied Evil Dead (one of the five I burned with 1.5.0), and it did some weird stuff. I'm not sure if it was related to the use of -R vs. +R or to a DXC problem. I'm thinking DXC problem, however--the very end of the first disc was some sort of bizarre DVD mastering splash screen, and the first part of disc 2 repeated several minutes worth of the end of disc 1. Looks like I'm going to have to go back and do this over...

1. Read through the text that you have typed before you click the send button. If you can't understand what you have written, how can we understand? Or offer help?

2. If you are resonding to someone else's post, type the name of the person you are posting back to because the thread of a conversation can easily be lost if there are several posts between the original post and the response.

3. buy a GD spell checker and at least try to use puctuation correctly.
