I recently read somewhere on here that there was a way for people to get 3.0.2 to work by somehow copying a file from a 2.5.2 install and replacing a 3.0.2 file with it. I haven't got 3.0.2 to ever work on my system. Every disc I burn is bad.

Anyone know where I can find that thread? Or better yet does anyone know which file I have to copy?

jedi1689,

Could you tell us exactly the problem you're having?

I install the new version but every time I burn a dvd it only takes like 3 minutes for the burn process and all the discs end up being bad. I remember reading somewhere on here you could fix that by copying a dll or something from 2.5.2 and replacing the new version from 3.0.2...

Replacing the dll file from 3.0.x with the dll file from 2.5.2 will not help you. That will only help those that have successful reads and burns, but won't play on their players.

You are not having a successful burn.

Could you please post your system information.

Make sure you have your latest burner firmware and the latest Service Pack updates for Windows.

jedi1689,

Veritas DLA installed? If it is uninstall it.

Any other CD/DVD burning software installed on your system?

Express was not designed for 4x burning, so don't use that type of media. Use media rated at 2 or 2.4x.

Veritas DLA was installed but I removed it. I had to do that to get 2.5.2 to work. I used memorex DVD+RW for 2x, and I even set the burner thru device manager to only burn at 2x. I do still have Veritas Record DX or whatever still on my pc... I need that to make file backups on dvd roms. COuld that cause problems?

jedi1689,
RecordNow should not cause a problem. You could try uninstalling it just to see.

I've never heard of setting the burn speed on your drive through Device Manager. Usually the burn speed is determined by the media and the firmware of your burner.

I was incorrect, I don't set it up under device manager. If I right click on the dvd-r drive in "my Computer" and select properties, then go to the last tab, which is labeled "recording", you can select the speed to record. This overrides the software selection for speed in all of the programs I have tried this with.

I'll try uninstalling record dx tonight and see what happens. I hope it works. The thought of being stuck with 2.5.2 forever is a bummer :-(

That recording tab, I believe, is only for CD's, not for DVD's.

That would be my luck! :-)

Is there anything else that you can think of that I might try?

Does the dvd software decoder matter? I did have problems with a LITEON dvd rom drive. Powerdvd would cause it to bnot read any discs for some reason. LITEON said the problem was with a codec, but they could never fix it... so I ended up buying the sony I have now

jedi1689,

Just use DVD media that's not rated over 2.4x.

I tried media rated at 2x and it still doesn't work, but like before, everything I try to burn on 2.5.2 works. I'm really confused as to why the new version works but the old one doesn't. I tried 3 movies on 3.0.2 that worked on 2.5.2 with the 2x media and all 3 didn't work, but I went back to 2.5.2 and tried and all three came out fine...

This is not supposed to be your problem but never know. The dll fill is vso.hwe.dll. Try with a copy of it from 2.5.2 that you have installed. Replace the one in 3.0.2 with it and see. It caint hurt as you are not getting 3.0.2 to work now. If it works great if not you are no worse for ware.
