I have used both x-copy and express and am tending to use express more and more. Unfortunately if it has problems with a movie I can't go an retry it even with a DVD-RW. So I'm ending up with some -RW that I can use, but only with x-copy not express. It would be nice if express had the capability to overwrite a disc like x-copy does.
Thanks.

If I understand your question correctly.
Express will format the RW prior to writing it

I guess that I may have been a bit unclear. If I have a novie or a partial movie on the DVD-RW already, express reads it as not a blank disc and will not overwrite it. X-Copy will read it and ask something like "do you want to overwrite the information on the disc", so that I can re-burn a bad one.
If there is a way to do this with express I haven't figured it out yet.

DXCX overwrites for me automatically. I pop in a +rw with a movie on it, and DXCX just does the rest. DXCX formats it and writes the new movie on it like it was blank.

I'll try again, but I haven't seen it work on my Sony Dvd-RW. If I put in a previously burned -RW it just sits on the "insert blank disc" screen until I put in a truly balnk disc. I'll try again, maybe something funky is happening.
Thanks.

If something funky is happening it can be overcome. If you have a program like Nero, you can use that to do either a quick erase or a full erase. After that DXCX will see it as a blank disc.

markchem,
I have the Sony DRU 500ax and I have no problem using RW's over and over. Could it possibly be the brand of media you are using? I use Verbatim's +RW. I just stick it in the tray and DXCX takes over and does the rest. The reason I ask about the brand of media you are using is because my 500ax does not / will not recognise Memorex +RW's whatsoever.

I have a sony pcv-rz14g and I'm not really sure which brand of dvd writer it has in it, but I do know that it will not do (+) format, only (-). I have used both the generic princo dvd-rw and the memorex dvd-rw media and haven't been able to get express to overwrite a bad burn on either, however I have been able to get x-copy to overwrite both of them. I'll keep trying and I can at least save the -rw's until I use x-copy for a burn, like I said it will do it.
Thanks

Like I said, do you have anpother burning program, such as Nero, Record Now Max, or Roxio? If you do you can use those programs to erase(format) those -rw's then use them in DXCX.

I'll have to check, the sony came bundled with some stuff that I haven't even looked at yet so I really don't know if I have a program already on there that will do that. Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't thought about reformating it in another program and then trying the burn again (duh on me).

Your Sony comes with Record Now Max. With tha you can choose a quick or full erase.

What O/S are you using? If it's XP, then Right click on My Computer and choose Manage. Under Device Manager you will see a section for DVD/CD Rom drives. If you expand that section it will tell you what sort of drives you have. That will help solve what your problem is.
I have a Sony DRV-500a drive and it works with any media I have thrown into it. I don't have any problems with Optodisk -RW, or TDK +RW/+R/-R or Memorx +RW/+R
After we know what sort of drive you have, you might have to update the firmware.

I managed to find out the following about the drive
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104
Driver 5.1.2535.0
I am using XP home edition
Other than not overwriting in express everything is hunky dorey with it.
