I am trying to copy one of my old used DVDs with my usual AnyDVD/CloneDVD combo, but I keep getting cyclic redundancy errors and the program bombs (Oh no). What I’ve done in the past is start DVDXRescue and use it to copy the damaged disk, but today I got the dreaded activation screen and the “alotted (sic) number of activations has been used for this license”, even though I’ve only loaded it once, to 1 computer.
My question: Is there another program that works like DVDXRescue (and as slickly) to copy damaged disks. I’d pay the money to reactivate for this feature, but I find it very hard to pay for something I’ve already paid for, especially if it contains a time bomb, and I never use the DVDXCopy part of the program anymore.
Sorry if this topic has already been covered, but I couldn’t find anything after searching the forum, besides the 15 pages of various updates and additions – nothing specific to what I’m looking for.

AnyDVDv6107 & CloneDVDv2903
I was afraid of that. I've actually used DVDXRescue to salvage a working backup of a cracked DVD! What I'm looking for is a type of program that works similarly. A tool like that is invaluable. If you have kids, you know what I'm talking about. So much for the march of progress.

I'm using Verbatim & Maxell 16x DVDs, on a Sony DRU-820A burner with the firmware updated about 6 months ago. CloneDVD doesn't even get to the writing stage, but bombs out reading the disk on a Liteon JLMS XJ-HD1665 DVD-ROM. I upgraded the firmware on it around the same time as the Sony. Reading the disk on the Sony produces the same problem, at the same place. That's where the Rescue program comes in handy. I can copy over the flaw in the disk without any problem or other hassle like buffing the disk.
In June last year, DVDXCopy International increased my activations for DVDXCopy (for FREE!) after the same problem. I emailed them, and here's their response. I have my fingers crossed.
Quote: Sorry for your troubles.
The Xcopy activation servers are temporarily unavailable. Please check back in 24-48 hours and we hope to be able to help you with your software then. They are working on the problem, but the software and the servers are becoming outdated and seem to go down more often.
While we are waiting, here is the 3 day trial for DVD neXt COPY Version 2. You can download the latest build software here:
...
See if that trial does what you want. Whether you buy our new software or not, please come back here in 24-48 hours and we will see if we can get your DVD X Copy software working again.
Best regards,
Support
Does neXt COPY have the Rescue feature?
BTW, I accidentally clicked on the unsubscribe button on your email. Please cancel.

If you could see the underside of the DVD, the problem is obvious. I loaded up Ulead's DVD MovieFactory 4 to try to copy the disk, and it copied the damaged DVD, so I guess that's an option. Nero and Roxio EZ Media couldn't handle it. Just playing around (I'm off today), I finally broke down and buffed the DVD, and it copied with CloneDVD. What a pain in the a**! Rescue copies without the hassle. I guess I'll wait a couple of days and hope DVDXCopy International comes through. I looked at their manual for neXt Copy, and there's no Rescue feature, so that one's out. I'll let you know.

SUCCESS! DVDXCopy International's response:
Quote: The servers are up now. You should have 3 activations now. Please go online and try to activate again.
We will be providing support from our international offices as long as it is needed.
What did you think of the new DVD neXt COPY trial?
Best regards,
Support
Unfortunately, their link for the trial copy of DVDneXtCopy was broken, and there wasn't a link on their web site (just one for their prepaid program), so I wasn't able to try it.
