I have installed the latest version of dvdxcopy gold (2.0). When starting the program "dvdxcopy" the text "Gold" is in the splashscreen. When starting "dvdxpress" this text is not in the splashscreen, also the taskbar for "dvdxpress" says this is version 2.50.
Do I have the right version? or is something going wrong.

Now there is a new version (3.0) of dvdxpress I want to to update my "version" but the info say to uninstall dvdxpress first.
The problem with "dvdxcopy gold" is that I can't uninstall dvdxpress separetly. I can uninstall only "dvdxopy Gold version 2.50" so also dvdxcopy would be removed I think.
So beside the strange version numbering form dvdxpress and the uninstall feature from dvdxcopy gold how can I update the dvdxpress from the gold version to the latest 3.0 version.

Bert

If you are not having any problems with the 2.5.0 version then just leave it for now. Many people are having problems with the 3.0 version, there should be a fix this week.

BshadowB,
The quote from 321_Q/A about how to update just the Express version within Gold.

"just change the install location from (on my system C:\Program Files\321Studios\Xpress

to

C:\Program Files\321Studios\DVDXCopy GOLD

This will update the DXCX files to the latest version, keep your current activation, and will not affect the version or functionality of DXC."

Conrad thanks for your information but that is not the right information that I want, changing the path to the right directory proberaly works but I bought a product "gold" which include 2 programs.
When one is upgraded I expect that:

1) I can download the program trough my license. But trough my license I can only download an updated gold program that still has the old version.
2) The update information on the site:
"DVD X Copy XPRESS Version 3.0 is now available. Please uninstall any previous versions of DVD X Copy XPRESS before installing etc...."
This is not possible with the "gold version"
3) Also when I read the forum when you got in trouble the advise is to uninstall the program first and than reinstall or update the program. This is also not possible with the gold version because uninstalling uninstalls both programs.

I also hope that there is someone with the "Gold version" that can verify my information. So that I know if there is something wrong with my installion or that the "gold program" is giving this strange version information.

BshadowB,
We had just about a whole thread addressing the same issue you're having. 321_Q/A did testing on how to upgrade an older version of Express to a newer version within the Gold software program. That is what he came up with.

There is no need to verify what you have for a version number.. that is the version number of Express that's included in Gold.

Also when they say: "DVD X Copy XPRESS Version 3.0 is now available. Please uninstall any previous versions of DVD X Copy XPRESS before installing etc...."
That is for people who have separate installations of Express and DVDXCopy. It doesn't say anything about Gold being updated, because Gold doesn't have any updates as of yet.

Lastly, I do agree with you about updating Gold with the current releases of Express, but at this time they don't. In the meantime, use the method described by 321_Q/A and you shouldn't have any problems.

If you're really adamant about this please PM 321_Q/A or 321_Geek and ask them why they don't update Gold with the current version of Express.

I had the exact same problem you have. I too purchased DVDXcopy Gold and then wanted to upgrade just the DVD Xcopy Xpress to version 3.0. I contacted Tech Support at 321 Studios. They replied with an Email that said, "You can download and install 3.0 from "an FTP Link to DVDXCopy XPRESS v3.0.0 full install"(I'm not giving you the link, you'll have to get it from them). They told me to, "Install it into the Gold folder and it will update your XPRESS." It worked for me. It should work for you. Good Luck.

Why are you being like that? This forum is here to help people, but you want to keep your information all to yourself. I sure hope you don't ever need any help.

BTW, I have already PM'ed BshadowB with the ftp site, and Conrad already told him how to upgrade.

FYI, installing in the folder without first uninstalling is referred to as "installing over the top". See, I'm helping you, you should be more helpful too.

The ftp site is not a secret site only there for those who spoke with tech support. The ftp has been posted dozens of times. Here, I'll post it again:

ftp://ftp1.dvdxcopy.com/

WOW!!! That was fun!! It was so much fun I'm going to post the link again:

ftp://ftp1.dvdxcopy.com/

I feel all warm and gushy inside. I gotta tell ya, there's no greater feeling in the world than helping people.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, let's post that link one last time:

ftp://ftp1.dvdxcopy.com/

I guess BshadowB won't have to get it from tech support afterall.

May I take the time here to tell you that you're the one who lost those marbles. I was simply (as a fellow Rag Tagger should do) trying to help you find them so you could think straight.

Quick Question, I am a newbie having just loaded my program on Sunday
and having successfully backed up 2 movies so far (*knock on wood*). I
ordered & installed the Gold version which comes with
Express version 2.51 I believe. When I called technical support and
asked about installing version 2.52 (I will wait for 3.0 when improvements
are made to current one) and I was told by the tech support
specifically to NOT save the new version to the Gold folder. I was told
if the default was the gold folder, to go in a manually change it to
another. I asked them about the suggestions on this board
to save it to the Gold folder but they said not to. I now have 2.52
installed in the 321 studios folder but not under the Gold folder. I also
deleted my original desktop shortcut and added the new
version.
Can someone clarify this information and explain to me if there would
be any problems in continuously doing this installation process for
future versions instead of deleting previous ones and then
installing.

thanks.

Goumba and Conrad,
When updating the version of DXCX that is included in Gold, follow these directions.

Download the latest version (or the version that you wish to use) and start the install.

Here's a link to our FTP site.
ftp://ftp2.dvdxcopy.com

When asked where to install the program, point the installer to the DVDXCopy GOLD folder instead of letting it make a new Xpress folder. That will install DXCX into the Gold directory and overwrite the files for the other version, and should not make you re-activate the software again.

People on XP or ME may want to make a restore point before doing the upgrade in case they want to go back to their old setup.

321_Q/A, Jeff
Thanks for that update to what you've already told us.
Your Tech people then are giving out the wrong information to these people that call.

You should point the installation to the Gold folder instead of what the Tech person said, right?

Thanks,
Conrad

Well after I contacted the tech department, I downloaded version 2.5.2 from the same link you posted (was sent the link by the tech dept. via email), when it chose the path to save it under, I saved it in my 321 studios folder. When I go into this folder now, I have 2 sub-folders- one that states DVD Gold Copy, and one that says Express. In the Gold folder, I have the original DVDC & DVDX2.5.1. In the other folder I have just DVDX2.5.2. I erased the 2.5.1 shortcut from my desktop and added the 2.5.2 version and it works fine. I also did not have to activate the program when I did it this way. Basically I have 2 Express copies on my system and only use version 2.5.2 which seems to be working fine. If the tech persons advice to me was incorrect, than it should be known that this method does work, or at least it did for me.

Goumba,
Download the file to your desktop, or another folder OTHER than the 321 Studios folder. (sorry, I didn't make that clear)

Then install it from your desktop or wherever you download the file to.

Then when you start the install, instead of using the default install location (C:\Program Files\321Studios\Xpress) choose the Gold installation folder to install to. (C:\Program Files\321Studios\DVDXCopy GOLD)

As long as you install into the main Gold directory, it will overwrite the current DXCX files, and update the version to whatever version you install.

If you still have problems, I can try and make up a walkthrough with screenshots..

Thanks for the posting back but just to clarify the situation, I am having no problem with the installation the tech guy recommended to me. I have both versions on my computer now: 2.5.1 and 2.5.2. I only use the 2.5.2 version but having both doesnt seem to have caused any problem. What problems does having both of these on my computer possibly have ? I seemed to do it effortlessly, so im not sure why overwriting the previous version would be of benefit. If there is another folder created under 321 Studios with Express 2.5.2, and you go into that one to run the program, what problem might this cause ?
On a side note, the technician on the phone was very adimant about me not putting 2.5.2 into the Gold Copy folder, so its confusing seeing the contrary has been posted on the boards.

I followed the steps as described with succes.
Everything is updated well. I copied a few disks with succes with DVDC as well as DVDX.
Now displaying V3.0.0 in the taskbar.

There is a little thing than can be changed just to avoid any misunderstanding. The taskbar displays V3.0.0 but the latest version page says that v3.0.1 is included in the latest Gold. So the programmers must update the right file version information or the gold version has the wrong version included. Can you tell me what it is?

Is it also possible to have an option included in the programs to hold the temporary files after the burning. For some valuable and KIDS DVD's I want to burn an extra ISO. For now after the ripping but before the burning, I make an ISO with NERO (virtual image) and burn this later on a DVD. So I have a extra copy in case the duplicated DVD crashes (Many of copied DVD are already detrpyed by my kids). I can then restore the image in a fast way and burn it again. The program now clears this tempfolder after the burning.

Again many thanks for the support information.

Goumba,
The only problem that I can see is if the VSO burning engine is updated. The installation places a default string in your registry pointing to the engine in an Express folder. If the engine is updated then both versions may become confused on where the updated engine is actually located.

Goumba,
There is no benefit to having it installed into the Gold folder other than in the event that the new install tries to make you activate. If you only have a Gold license, you would not be able to activate the new version with that License ID.

If it works for you as a separate install, then don't worry about installing it into the Gold folder.

BshadowB,
I can't answer your first question. An easy way to find out is to just follow the instructions for updating Express within Gold.

The answer to your second question is "no way".
Given the ongoing lawsuits, the software will allow you one backup from an owned original DVD. If the backup becomes unusable, simply make another one from the stored original. It's 321's attempt to not allow mass producing of an original DVD for distribution.

Also, per forum rules, no disscussion will be allowed for circumventing the reading and burning process built into DVDXCopy and Express.

Thanks,
Conrad

BshadowB,
V3.0.1 is the version that you will have when you install the "DVDXCopy_GOLD_v3.0.1_full_install.exe" file. The version at the bottom should also read the correct version number.

If it doesn't, then something didn't get updated when you installed it.

If this is the case, I would suggest uninstalling the software and rebooting, and then when the system comes back up, install the latest version of Gold again, and reboot a final time.

We are unable to include the option to hold the temporary files after the burning at this time, as it would not be a good thing for our court case, but that may be something that we may be able to add in the future.
