Configuration using new SATA drives

Does anyone have any advice on configuration of a system using the new Serial ATA ? I have installed a SATA drive and boot XP on the new drive (very fast) and now my transfer rate SUCKS to the new drive when I rip.

I have a 100gig h/d on IDE 0 Drive 1 and the Lite-On DVD on IDE 0 - Drive 2

Ripping to the SATA drive IDE 2 is slower than crap and so I moved the directory back to IDE 0 Drive 1 and it is slower than it was on my older system.

I have my HP 300i on Firewire external.

Any thoughts ?

P4 2.4
1gig DDR RAM

Cheers,

MG
