security, thanks for taking the time to respond to my thread in DVD for Newbies...
I initially looked at the dvdxcopy product, but after reviewing some chats and asking a few questions it seemed that xcopy had some issues and other means ie.

<Edited by 321_Q/A for content violation>

i have successfully created a backup dvd with nothing but the movie and it worked fine...
if xcopy would make this process easier and gaurantee a better picture quality as the end result i would consider using the product..
i assume xcopy does not decrypt the movie and removal of extras may not be possible...
video quality is my number one concern.
movie on one disc is number 2.

let me know your thoughts on this products ability in these respects...
...this is your life, and its ending one day at a time

There is a trial version available for Express, it's on the home page. Try it out and compare for yourself. Expess will only give you the movie, no extras, no menu, etc.

within the next couple of weeks, XPRESS 3.0 is going to be released which will allow you your choice of just the movie (as is presently the case) or the ENTIRE DVD. All menus, special features and the movie on one DVD. Gold will be upgraded to include this new codebase as well.
And, I'm breaking my own rules on this one. Rather than charge for a version upgrade (i.e. 1.x to 2.x to 3.x) I am going to give every XPRESS user 3.0 for FREE.

If 100% quality is your main requirement, DVDxCOPY is the ticket. You get a 100% quality backup, although most moves, which are DVD-9's, are split across 2 discs. You do have the ability to remove video titles, so some movies can indeed fit on a single disc.

The current Xpress only backups up the movie, no menu or extras. The program will use the minimal compression level that is needed so that the video fits on a single disc. The compression used is very good, it is hard to tell the difference unless you have a progressive scan player & a HDTV. Although I haven't tried other products, I hear it is the best as far as video quality goes.

As was noted above, there will be an updated Xpress which will also include the menu & special features, compressed to fit on a single disc.

At that point the only reason to use DVDxCOPY will be if you want a 100% quality backup, or are backing up episodic DVD's.

Hope that helps point out the differences between the 2 products.

Nobody will tell you either product is perfect, but they have both greatly improved. As you can tell from reading the forum, or checking the main site, 321 does a very good job of putting out updates to constantly improve. What more can you ask for.

one other really important thing to consider is what kind of support will you get with the other softwares?

the people on this forum have seen most every problem that you might encounter and they work very, very, well together to help solve your problem. The do not give up. They will work with you until the problem is solved.

Also, you will get help for the tech support people at 321 from here as they monitor this forum.

Heck, even the President of 321 joins in to help every so often and where do you see that these days.

Add the money back warranty and you can't go wrong.

just FYI.

later and welcome to the forum
