Hi there - I have just picked up DVDXCOPY and am excited at the propostion of backing up my DVD collection. I have a Dell 8200 with a Phillips D28 +RW drive. Which I have read there are some problems with some of the Dell integrated drives - but I don't belive I am getting some of the same problems others have. I have been reading some of the old posts trying to see what applies to my problem and don't think it is a drive problem. Well here it is:

I will start with the single disc backup...I backed up New Guy - which goes to one disc...everything worked great...plays in my DVD player...good times right? well I guess...now the problem is with any DVD backup that goes over 2 discs...it reads the split chapter right - show the space for both discs right...now a 2976 bytes single backup takes 17 minutes to read and the frame size is 1525104 and takes 15 minutes to write. Now the strange part is a multi disc backup takes 1 hour to read - then 20 minutes into the writing it gives that size error...should it not take the same amount of time to read the first part of a split as if the first disc is 3000 bytes?

Sorry if I am rambling a bit :)

SO my question is - with this Size error I receive half way through writing the first disc of a two disc backup...is this the same error that people are getting on a single disc backup? Or can every body backup a single disc and have problems with backups spanning two discs? Dont tell me I am unique...

Is there something I can do to get the two disc backup working? It seems weird it needs an hour to read it...

PC:
Dell 8200
60 gigs free disc spac
Phillips D28 +RW
256 RAM
P4 2.4 ghz
400-1000 Swap File
DVDXCOPY 1.5.2

Please let me know if you can assist me in troubleshooting this or if I am just pooched - hehe. Also let me know if I need to provide you with any more information. Seems like everyone on this group is so nice and helpful - any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

skeeve,
If you're reading a movie that will span 2 disks in your Phillips burner the read time of about an hour is about right, maybe a little long, but not much.
DVDXCopy reads the entire disk twice, once for the first disk write and once for the second disk write. It does this because of the IFO structure and it needs to read the entire disk for each burn.
I don't understand the second part of your problem when you say "size error". Could you explain what exactly the error says? It might be easier for you to determine the exact error if you read the .log file in the 321 folder.
