I had been using Ver 1.4.1 for about 4 monthes with great success, upgraded to Ver. 1.5.2 to gain episodic disk support (X-Files). The disks I burned after the upgrade played fine in the PC, but would not play in my Panasonic DVD player. This was using the same media and everthing else was the same as before the upgrade. After talking to tier 3 support, I decided to uninstall 1.5.2, reinstall 1.5.2 then 1.4.1 in a different directory(loads the ver 1.4.1 gear drivers into Windows). It worked, I now have episodic disk support with the ver 1.5.2 interface, but burns with the 1.4.1 engine; plays back fine on the Panasonic DVD player. Just remember not to allow the second install to place an icon on your desktop, or you will have to go in and manually change the target settings for the icon!

Well, all isn't quite as good as I thought! I can burn only with the X-copy engine, cannot use the Nero burn engine or I get disks that will play only on the computer. Does X-copy support 2X burning? I'm trying to speed the process up a little, and Nero can burn at 2X.

steven_b,
DXC supports burning at 2x if the media is rated at 2x. If the media is rated at 1x then DXC supports burning at 1x. If the media is 4x and your burner is capable of burning at 4x then dxc will burn at 4x.
Why don't you just use the built in Gear engine?
Also, please don't discuss burning DXC's output by any other methods.

Steven,
I tried your fix and it burned with the Gear engine but the disc still won't play on my Sony NS755 player. I am getting plenty frustrated...

berretta,
You have the NEC burner I understand. I assume you know about this thread: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/39364
Just hang in there, there's been a tremendous amount of information on this drive and I understand that 321 is working on that issue as we speak.
Thanks,
Conrad

conrad,
Thanks, I did see that thread but was hoping since it said
"While these can be made work with XCopy most of the time, there are known issues being resolved."
there would be fixes that are known. Unfortunately nobody seems to have any ideas what needs to be done in order to get these drives to "work... most of the time".

berretta,
You could try sending a PM to 321_Q/A and ask for a clarification on what that statement means. I personally don't know and I'd be curious to find out myself.
Thanks,
Conrad
