Jaybo - with Whisperer hunkered down, playing bunker boy, I doubt he'd jump "up", 'cause then he'd bump his poor little head. Since he's waiting for us do do all the 1.5.2 ironing, he's probably waiting for the civil engineers to come in and raise the ceiling.

ireland,
Are you really using V1.5.1 or are you using V1.5.2?

Either way, there have been many bug fixes and UI changes added to the program.. So while it uses some of the code from previous versions, it is NOT the same program as V1.4.1.

Hey..
I still have 1.4.1 on my Win98 system at home..

It's just a matter of not changing something that works for you though..

321_Q/A <Jeff>,

Hello Jeff,

Hope, stollery and I are keeping you entertained today. Are you saying, V1.5.2 has that retro feel to it, and a new finish?

Yo Jaybo,
LOL.. It's like the old Pinto with the rust filled in and a new paint job right..?

No.. V1.5.2 does have the feel of V1.4.1, but it is much more than a new paint job.

There isn't much code in the program that was left untouched with the V1.5.2 update.

I have that exact problem, only it was with +rw. When I first tried to back up movies last night I used +rw's as coaster insurance.

I checked the disk ready box, but when it came time to burn DXC ejected the disk and a dialogue popped up saying "Please insert disk now," or something like that. I re-insert the disk and DXC kicked it out again. It did this three times before it would accept the disk.

DXC repeated the above scenario on my second movie.

Today I burned with Accu -r's, checked the disk ready box, and went to the store. Everything worked like it was supposed to. Later I will try another +rw to see what happens.

Try a -r or +r and see if the same thing happens.

ireland,
There must be something else happening..

That feature is something that we tested before we released, and it for sure worked on Monday.

I just tested it again and it worked fine for me.

Make sure that the disk is not dirty, scratched or worn out. Also, if it is a new +RW, you will need to format the disk before burning to it the first time.

i agree with you its a problem that needs to be addressed by dvdxcopy ,it does not like +disks used for a test.i wonder if it will burn with a dvd+r disk.
looks like +disks are out of the game.

321_Q/A

Please see my above post. I am having the same issue. I used a +rw that I had quick erased with nero before hand.

DXC kicked the disk out three times before it would accept it. I never received an error message, just a dialogue asking me to please insert a disk. I would insert the disk, DXC would kick it back out and then ask me to insert a disk.

Like I said above, I did not have this problem with -r's.

For anyone who wants to burn to a +RW, I would suggest that you use the "Quick Format" button to format the disk before writing to it.

After 2-3 burns on the same disk, do a "Full Format" to wipe the disk as clean as possible.

Then do the burn in DXC.

I installed 1.5.2 per instructions from 321. Just went to CP and removed. I didn't go back in and delete folder. 1.5.2 installed without a hitch. Did a backup and the following are my results. Even though there were improvements to the external drive support. It failed to burn using my Sony 120. I tried a second burn using the latest release of Nero. The burn was successful. A question was posted earlier about using Nero with 1.5.2, it worked without a flaw. I didn't however place the disk in the tray and check the box. I found in the last release that this may at times cause some problems. Hope this info is useful. 321 you are getting the slowly but surely. Look forward at some point to being able to use Gear again.

dengar,
Was it a new (unused) disk, or had it previously been written to?

Blkmoon45,
Is the firmware for your burner up to date?

Gear may have a problem with the USB burner that you are using, but the Gear burning should, for the most part, work much better in V1.5.2.

321_QA,
I re-use the same -rw discs for my tests. They have only been used by DVDxCOPY Gear & I never formatted them. I simply put them in the burner & immediately check the disc is ready box. They are overwritten without prompting me.

Could that be why my last backup to a -rw failed with a disc fixation error ?.

Should I do a full format ?.

Since it is 1x media, does that mean a full format would take 50 minutes ?.

321_Q/A

It was a Sony +rw that had been written to twice. In the past I have never had a problem, but it is not that big of a deal for me since I only use +rw's to test, and when I test I am always close by the computer.

In previous versions I used the quick erase option in DXC, but in 1.5.0. it was not there. I have also done like mwillet and just put the +rw in without doing anything to it and DXC copied to it like a champ.

If I have the problem again I will take the time to do a full erase and see if that helps.

I have a Phillips +rw that I have used to test about 45 movies on and have never had to do a full erase on it. So mabye I should try the Phillips and the fully erased Sony and see what happens.

ireland and 321_Q/A

I just ripped Billy Madisom and checked "output disk is ready". This time I used my trusty Phillips +rw that had Jackass on it. I did not do a quick or full erase. I just put in the disk and walked away. Ten minutes later I came back and DXC was burning.

Maybe it was a problem with the Sony +rw, but DXC did exactly what it was suppose to do this time.
They can have my DXC when they pry it from my cold, dead, fingers.

mwillett,
Yea, I would first try a Full Format and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, you may want to try a new disk.

The RW disks do get worn out. The drive plays a big part in how fast a disk gets wasted also..

In my Sony DRU500a, I have used some of the +/-RW disks upwards of 20 times. Usually around that time, they start to go bad.

In my Tritton (Ricoh) 5125, most of the RW disks that I use are trashed by the time I write to them 10 times.

Jaybo,
LOL!

Yea, I forgot that they ended up in a ball of flames most of the time.. In that case all of the putty and paint wouldn't fix it..

321_Q/A

I thought we were supposed to be able to write to a +rw upwards of 1,000 times. Would that be just regular data? I've got a Phillips that I have used now 46 times with no problem.

You burn a lot more movies than I do so I defer to you. How does a +rw act when it has been written on too many times?
