I installed Express and rebooted, clicked on the icon and the splash screen appears for a few seconds and then disappears. Program is not fully launching. Any ideas as to what to check? I am running XP Home with SP1, Sony internal burner hooked on an Ultra ATA internal card, Intel P4-2.68 with 1 gig of RAM. DVD X Copy works fine on this machine.

Do you have any other programs on your system that write to RW CD's or DVD's. This will cause problems. I had to remove nero's InCD for my system to work right.

I have Roxio's Easy CD/DVD Creator installed, but a friend of mine has that installed on his XP Prof. system and has no problems with Express. I also have Sonic Foundry Vegas Video and DVD Architect installed, again my friend has this installed also - no problems. And I have Veritas Backup Software - that I think came with my SONY DVD Burner and a program called Ahead Nero (it only burns CD-r/rws). Do you reccomend uninstalling these one by one and installing Express after each one is uninstalled? I think it is weird that DVD X Copy works great and Express doesn't even launch???

The software that comes with the Sony also has a DLA program. That is known to have unusual problems with several DVD writing programs. If you installed it, try removing just it first, reinstall Express, and test.

Next, if that doesn't work, I would recommend you remove the Roxio and Veritas software, reinstall Express over the existing version, and see if that works. If it does, reinstall Roxio and Veritas one at a time, checking Xpress after each one is installed.

rgood1225,

I have Roxio's ECDC 6 (but not the update)
On with winXP Pro, and DVDXC & DVDX with no problems at all.

But the Update to ECDC 6 caused me problems..

rgood1225,
Right click on the DXCX Link and go to Properties.

In the Properties window, there will be a "Compatibility" tab. Click on that tab to take to to the Compatibility properties for that shortcut.

Make sure that you are not trying to run DXCX in any other Compatibility mode. If there are checks in any of the check boxes, remove them, save the changes, and try the process again.

I tried uninstalling everything and re-installing express..no luck. I still get the splash screen when I click on the Express icon and then after 20 seconds it disappears. I did have a thought as to what might be causing my prob. I have my DVD burner installed on my Ultra ATA 133 PCI card because I ran out of slots on my motherboard. I have not tested this out yet, but will soon. I noticed that I don't have the program to pick the drive loaded in my startup like other had who had to delete it out after the initial install? & I was never asked to identify the drive. I tried running the drive select program and it won't launch either - click on it and nothing happens. The only other thing I thing I can do is install windows on a new drive and load express to see if it will run. Any suggestions from anyone is really appreciate it. RGOOD1225

rgood1225,
You say that you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and all of that, but did you try checking the compatibility like I suggested in my last post?

That sounds like it is the problem to me.

Sounds like if it is not a compatibility mode issue like 321_qa said then it is that vso drivers are not installing right because of the add in controller card. You can test this by putting the burner on one of the onboard controllers and reinstall xpress to see if this is the problem. If so then can you change something from the onboard controller to the add in controller so the burner is on the onboard?

I figured it out!!! The problem was that I had my DVD Burner hooked up to the Ultra ATA card. I moved it to the motherboard, set it as primary and that solved my problem. I have not burned anything yet, but Express launches and I don't expect any further problems. Thanks for the help!! RGOOD1225

I'm still having probelms installing and running the program. I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with 1.7g P4, 256meg, NEC CDRW, and Pioneer A05 DVDRW, running Win2k Pro SP3. I had Stomp loaded but uninstalled and reinstalled DXCX and still has the same problem. What it does is two things.
First I install it then reboot, then drive select comes on and if I just click on ok then try to run DXCX. The splash screen comes on for a couple of seconds then I get an error from windows saying "Xpress.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows". Now the second thing, is when I uninstall then reinstall DXCX and this time pick the drive from drive select, the program will run but will give me the error that it couldn't find the drive information and that I need to run drive select. I've tried everything I've read and stuff I could thing of but no success. I'm in need of some help.

Big_moe83, I too am having an awful time getting XPress to recognize my brand new burner. (Mine's a Pioneer DVR-105, which I think is the same as your A05.)

To Jeff or Glass or anyone - please forgive me if this question has been posted elsewhere.

I installed my new Pioneer 105, and Windows (98 SE) instantly recognized it. I made a few (perfectly successful) CD data discs using Prassi Primo burning software.

But when I try to run XPress (latest version), my drive is not recognized. In fact, when I first boot up, 'Drive Select' asks me to choose a burner from the drop-down list, but there are NO drives listed! (Nothing to choose from).

I don't know if a firmware upgrade is in order or not, or if it would make a difference. On the "Firmware Page",

http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_all.php

...there are no less four different upgrades to choose from. I don't care about making my drive region-free, I would just like XPress to recognize it. I'm a bit reluctant to try a "flash" upgrade in case I permanently destroy my drive. (The disclaimers are scary). I wish Pioneer had their own download (firmware-upgrade) page. Maybe they do, but I haven't been able to find it yet. The guy at the computer shop where I bought the burner *did* say that a newer upgrade was available.

Any thoughts?

Oh Oh! HOLD the phone!

(I just got Xpress to recognize me burner)!!!

I hadn't installed my new burner yet, but I knew it was coming soon. To save a bit of time, I installed XPress first, prior to getting the burner. That won't work. You have to have a burner attached prior to installing XPress, or else it won't know what to do. I simply installed XPress 2.5.1 over the 2.5.1 I already had, and things are now fine.

See Ya!

Shame on you. That has been stated no fewer than 10 times on this forum. Must reinstall Xpress after a new burner is installed. Shame, shame, shame!

Klingy,
Glad you got it working!

Ya know Mike, you could have just said "I solved my problem by re-installing Express" and left the rest of your dissertation out of there. It's like standing on a tree stump with a bunch of hunters around and saying "I'm a turkey, shoot me"
Guess what? Glass came along and did. LOL

Conrad thx for your responce. I do have the VSO Devices there. Also the only thing I'm running is DVDXC. I had Record Now by Stomp but I uninstalled it to try to see if that was the problem but still did the same thing. Hope you guru's have solution.

big_moe83,
Some of these solutions are things you've probably tried already, but we don't know that yet.
Do you have the packet writing software that came with your HP installed? If you do uninstall it.
Does your HP show up in device manager and Windows Explorer and functioning?
Have you tried just burning some data onto a DVD test disk with the HP?
Try uninstalling Express and then uninstall the HP from device manager, reboot and let windows re-install the drivers for it. Then re-install Express.
Event viewer maybe will tell us what happens when Express tries to access the HP. Could you look in there and tell us what you find relating to this problem?
Compatibility mode is set correctly as suggested by 321_Q/A towards the beginning of this thread?

Glass; Conrad; Lawman:

Thmaaaaaa!!! Thrppphhhhh

This burner works better than my last. (Maybe that's because write-once discs have higher reflectivity than the R/W variety, I dunno).

Have made *seven* awesome backups since 1-1/2 days ago. Xpress shines!

-R media is only almost half of what I was paying for +R/W stuff. For first time ever, can now get *local* -r media for $3.00 ea Canadian (25 spindle pack for $75).

All of which has nothing to do with 'Installation Problems' of course, so before I abuse the thread further and get Conrad all excited, I shall scoot. :-)

Well Conrad the Pioneer A05 does show up and is functionally correctly. I tried uninstalling DVDXC to see if that was the issue but still no success. I also uninstalled the software that came with the burner but still no luck. DVDXC works great with no problems. I still don't understand why DXCX installs different than DVDXC. Has anybody had the same problem?
