rfigley,
Are you trying to back up a copy of a copy?

No, you can not get this far in attempting to copy a copy. You get a warning immediately upon it reading an archived disk.

I was having this problem originally on one disk now it seems to be happening with every disk. Also I neglected to mention previously that I am using Windows 2000 Professional.

Please post all your system specs. Burner, DVD reader if you have one, etc. And if you could explain what exactly you do, step by step, when trying to back up a DVD.
Is there a reason why you haven't updated to DXC 1.52?
I'm assuming that you had a success with the Express demo, but therafter DXC 1.41 shot out this error?

OK, sorry, my DVD burner is a Memorex DVD +RW/+R, the DVD reader I'm using is the DVD player that came with my ATI 7500 video card (Video Capture, TV tuner, etc). Also have Sonic MyDVD installed but do not use, at lest not yet. Have Pentium 1.3 gig, 40 gig drive 256 megs ram.

I run DVDXCOPY, have it read the disk. IT tells me what it sees and I proceed to copy. It reads the disk goes through all the files for the first disk. And when done, instead of identifying my drive as it should, it gives me this error.

Oh, also regarding the upgrade. I've downloaded it but have not yet installed because, I did not wnat to complicate the error issue. This worked before but now seems not to. If it's recommended to install teh upgrad I will, but wnated to check on this problem first.

As a follow up to my problem. I have been using Express trial, and have not had any problems with it making backups.

You put the original DVD in your Memorex burner to have DXC read it, and when done reading, DXC will prompt you to insert blank recordable media in the same drive you had the original.
Does DXC prompt you for blank media? It seems that that error you're getting is because DXC thinks it's about to write to the original DVD. which of course it can't. Also, I assume you're using +R/+RW media.

No, previously it did prompt me. But now it gives this error. I understand your point and now I'm wondering if there is a setting wrong. Although it shouldbe alright after reinstalling as I did. Is there a setting that would make it think the media to record is already in the drive? Yes, I'm using +R or +RW media. For tests I'm using +RW of course untill this error stops.

rfigley,
I don't have 1.4.1 in front of me, but I think there's a setting "output disk is ready" with a check box next to it. If that's checked it will not prompt you for burnable media, it will just attempt to start writing to whatever disk you have in the burner.

rfigley,
Check it out when you get the chance and let us know. One step at a time. If it is not checked try uninstalling 1.4.1, remove the 321 DVDXCopy folder if it still exists in program files. Reboot. Reinstall 1.4.1 and to be on the safe side click on the file 'DVDXCopyInstaller.exe' in the 321 folder to detect/redetect your Memorex drive.

OK, it would seem that it was ok, That error was there but also had the prompt to insert a blank disk below it. So I did it and hot refresh. It then read teh +RW disk and the green light came on to burn it. I did so, however the previous recording I did using Express played instead of the one I supposedly recorded. However in doing a fast forward, I could see clips of teh movie that was supposed to be copied over it. As if the disk needed reformatted proior ro me recording on it. I have not put on any other DVD software without getting this working first as it seems it is tempermental about working wot other software.

Also to properly follow up on your inquirey. The box indeed was not checked. So I went ahead and uninstalled, rebooted, then reinstalled, followed by running 'DVDXCopyInstaller.exe' first as stated, then rebooted again and proceded as stated above.

Also two issues. Since I seem to need to use a software to reformat my +RW, what is recommended. Seems EZ CD Creator and Nero are both questionable?

You're saying that you had both a previous Express burned backup and chunks of a new burned backup using 1.4.1 on the same disk?
We're heading in the right direction.. at least something is getting burned.

Sometimes the beginning credits and splash screens are the same for a number of DVD's.
Try using a brand new blank +rw.
Between the 2 software choices you had I would use Nero. A 30 day trial version is available on their website.

The first thing we should do though is try a NEW, blank +RW.

Chickadee,
rfigley said he had a +r(rw)burner. Therefore
he HAS to use +r(rw) media, because he has to match the media to the format of the burner.

dvdS.L.S,
Couldn't have said it better myself.

I wonder what happened to rfigley. I wish sometimes these people would come back and let us know if they got it working and what was specifically wrong so other people with similar problems could benifit.

Oh well
