You should continue posting to one thread instead of creating other threads and cluttering the place up.

Now you have given us no information with which to help you. Please give your detailed system specs, as well as a detailed description of the problem. You never even told what your OS is, and depending on which OS you run, there could be multiple problmes/solutions.

I will be closing, then later removing your first thread. Continue to post here and we'll get this figured out.

i have win 98se and had dvdxcopy 1.52 installed once, started to have problems tried to reinstall and know i get the performed illegal operation.if you read my other post it will explain the error. the program will recognize the dvd and the title and all other things it should. But when i hit the start button to start to read the dvd i get the fatal error which is stated in my other post. Hey all...

bball, how much memory do you have in that machine? Page faults are memory related errors, usually meaning that memory being handled by windows either mysteriously vanished, or has become corrupt. Also, tell me what your swap file size and type is (this is available by right-clicking on "my computer", then properties, go to system, performance, and look around for virtual memory)

I will keep an eye out here, so let me know and I will keep at to get you goin...

Hmm...

Is your 512 all on one memory stick? 512 is a borderline amount with Windows98, and some machines will have vcache errors with that much (not all...)

This could be the cause, as windows could be losing some stored memory due to the glitch in vcache. the only immediate resolution is to reduce the memory if this is the case. ie: remove 256 or so to test.

You will then need to uninstall and reinstall DVDXCopy, as the program may have become damaged as a result.

Let me know...

are you saying to remove one stix of memory and try 256 stix at a time? i have 2 -256 styx in the machine
thanks Bob

i tried that with one 256 mem stix and still got the following

DVDXCOPY caused an invalid page fault in
module DVDXCOPY.EXE at 0197:00404063. next im going to uninstall and reinstall and see what happens with only 1 256 mem stix in the mother board. i will let you know thanks again for sticking by
thanks Bob

First of all, be patient and do not give up. 321 Geek is as smart as they come and there are many smart people on this forum. This problem will be solved! Diagnosing computer problems can be difficult, especially when the diagnoser does not have the computer in front of them.

Don't give up, 321_Geek sure won't. He's only been on the case for a couple of hours.

Of all the people that I've seen come to this forum, and we're talking hundreds, I think only one or two were never able to get there problem resolved.

Hmm.. Let me make sure I know where this is immediately happening:

You open DVDXCopy.

It sees the DVD and parses the information into the correct places on screen (sizes, chapters, etc...)

you hit the button labeled (Copy Now)

crash.

Correct?

Do you have a complete ASPI layer for accessing the drive? a complete version of 4.60 can be gotten with this: ftp://ftp.321studios.com/aspi/forceaspi.exe

install, run the pinkish icon, follow steps, reboot. This will force a good ASPI layer in.

If this doesn't stop it, remove all the contents of the LOG folder where you installed XCopy, start the program, make it crash, and send me a PM with the contents of the logs. I will see what I can from those...

Don't give up yet!

Hi,321_Geek - I'm not sure I read your post correctly. Are you saying that bball, who's using 98 should be using more than 512 RAM, when 98 doesn't recognize more than 512? I definitely agree with 2, 256 meg sticks, versus 1, 512 (easier to troubleshoot), but I'm not sure memory is the problem.
Have to think about this one. A little weird, relating to DXC, but not to the OS it's self. See page fault issues with 98 all the time.

Stollery,

Nope, 512 is the MAX. 256 recommended...

Any more than 384 and Windows98/ME can start having caching problems. anything over 512 will ABSOLUTELY have issues.

better? :)

321_Geek - yeah thanks. When I first read it I thought you were trying to convey that 512 was borderline (minimum) rather than borderline (maximum) which, of course, it is.
