All of a sudden, my program won't burn anymore. Using 1.4.1 and it seems to read DVD files to hard drive ok but then when starting burn process to blank disk. Program displays "Generator module closed" and then popup display with "Burn failed - Operation Completed Successfully".
Any ideas??

mongo104,
What brand and type of blank disks are you using? ... and did you switch media lately?
Is your burner drive's firmware up to date(?) ... check for the most current drive firmware version for your model at the manufacturer's website support page.
Least and last possibility is that your burner is going downhill...

I'm using Princo 4X DVD-R media now. I'd used Taiyo Yuden 4X before with excellent success but couldn't get them anymore. I would swear that I've burned at least a few disks ok so far with the new Princo media until this started.
The burner is a Pioneer DVR-108 and according to the website has the most recent firmware.
Are there any programs I can run to test the burner performance/accuracy to see if it's failing?
And if it is dying, am I better off getting a new burner to run with old DVD X copy (on old 866 MHz desktop) or getting new software to run on new computer and burner (Dell laptop 2 months old)?
Thanks for all your help.

Nothing is wrong with your 108 or your computer. Stick with media that you already know your Pioneer likes. Pioneers hate trashy media. Don't switch around. Princo is absolute trash media! You went from a Mercedes (TY) to a tricycle (Princo media) ... that is your problem. Order TY's online if you can't find them in your local stores ... there is no substitute for good media! If your local store has Verbatim brand disks, they are excellent too as are the Sony -R Accucore media (they are OEM'd TY's). Always buy -R media for Pioneer drives because they are incapable of bitsetting +R media.
Even if you got Pricos to work a few times, the quality varies from disk to disk on the same spindle! And the ones you did copy onto will only work in some players and the data layer will degrade in a year and be unplayable on any player.

Thanks for all the help. I would've used Taiyo Yuden media forever since I had great experience with it (no coasters ever) but unfortunately they must've changed the media code or something because I started having problems where the burner was trying to burn at more than 4X and then DVDXcopy would crash in the middle of the burn. I never knew where to obtain other media that I was certain would only allow the burner to run at only 4X. Any ideas on where to obtain media that will work with DVDXcopy and only burn at 4X?
Thanks.

Time for me to make a comment...
dvdxcopy can not do the newer movies that are out..
the software has not been updated since 321 studios closed 3-years ago....
i turned whisperper on to a program that can do all the movies out a year or so back..
go to this forum and ask for free or bought programs to do your movies..
as this is a dvdxcopy site and i am not allowed to tell you here.

then here to post

You can use 8X media or 16x media but your 108 will still only burn at it's maximum speed. ...ie you don't have to buy 4x media. My Pioneer 105 burns 16x TY or Verbs or Sony at 4x with great results.

The max speed of my burner is 16x so that's the problem. The media code must've changed with the TY disks so that it started burning faster than 4X, causing DVDXcopy to crash every time.

Ahh... didn't realize the 108 got that fast. When I still use DXC 1.4.1, I swap-in the 105 so today's faster media will burn at only 4x. You could try to find your old 4X media online but it would only be "remaining inventories" till they run out.
Or search for an outlet that still has Pioneer 105's in inventory to sell you. Or a lightly used one. Pioneer has stopped developing it's own burners so it may be time to switch brands. Pioneer stinks at DL +R burning and it doesn't booktype to DVD-ROM (even the 110D). You will want to graduate to dual layer burning soon (as media prices have dropped) and you will need more sophisticated software. PM me for my software suggestions.
Or if you just love 1.4.1 or are on a tight budget, check BenQ's website and see if their included burning utility allows you to control burn speed. If so, then you could upgrade to a BenQ burner.
1.4.1 when used with AnyDVD's decryptor driver still does a fine job on many movies but you should also consider Ireland's suggestion of upgrading to a more current burning software package. But you will miss 1.4.1's "Please Insert Disk Number 2" message when backup disk 1 finishes playing!

OH YEAH ... Duh! Through this whole discource I was thinking 1.5.2 but writing 1.4.1.
1.4.1 does have some flaws that 1.5.2 and AnyDVD resolve.
Can he still upgrade without going through the silly "a" routine. I just cloned my HDD onto a second HDD, tested boot-up and DXC performance, and then put the second HDD on a shelf in case I ever needed it due to a crash etc.
Nice to read your postings Ireland. I check in on the DXC boards every couple of days but you are always on top of the necessary help people need.
Got up to 101 degrees F in L.A. today! Expecting more bad fires in the hills this year. Glad "Texas D.C." is reasuring us that global warming is just a myth!

Hey security!
So you still drop by the DXC threads too. I never went beyond 1.5.2 Most everybody left after the gold and silver run out, but I still like to visit.

I don't miss the insert disc two screen because I use 1.5.2 far more than I would admit to my friends on cdfreaks! I just hate the way the CDVD just goes to a blank screen at the end of disk one. James, the main developer at SS noted that my suggestion of adding an insert disk screen was "noted" as a good suggestion about 6-7 months ago, but the feature didn't show up on the last two recent CDVD releases. Splitting is probably not a priority consideration or appreciation of his so he was just blowin me off politely.
But DL is the real way to go and am transitioning over to that method, using CCD, as Verb DL's continue to drop in price. Only my movies that I am really enthusiastic about get backed up on DL at this point in time ... the rest I split as I buy them and back them up. I'll go 100% DL when Verb DL's hit a consistant $1.00 a disk. Got me a nice BenQ a while back to booktype +R DL. Just using the same dedicated (also standalone) backup box as I've used for 3 years ... nothin as fancy as Ireland's.
