Due to the popularity of the origional thread started by JohnODon, I thought it would be beneficial if it was split into USA and UK threads. Obviously other locations will need to decide whether to post in one of these or to start a fresh one.

I will close the origional thread, which can still be found here:

I use +RW media and have found the Leda +RW media to be great. I get them at shop4tech.com @ 1.39 each ($139.00 for 100ct w/free shipping). I mention this because I have not found anyone to come close to this in price for +RW media.

why only use +rw (i use it to test new versions )but put my "keepers" onto +r for a buck . i must admit though that if you had ..say...300 movies on 300 rw discs ...you still have rw discs and they are just as valuable used as they are new .
i actualy bought about 50 used +rw with some (unwanted) music and home movies on them from an estate sale for 25.00 and they all reformatted fine and are worth the price of at least any +r as im sure they can be reburned one more time at the very least .
is set top compatability higher or lower with +rw vs +r ?

I have just bought the Verbatim 15 pack also from Office Depot, but mine say they will burn from 1x-4x. I just burned one and sure enough it was burning at 4x with my Sony DRU510A. I'm not sure where you are from but where I am at these 15 packs are FLYING off the shelf. There are three Office Depots near where I live and every single one of them sold out on Sunday. I'm hoping they get more in this week.

All of our Office Depots where I live were sold out in less than 24 hrs with these 15pk DVD-/+Rs. However, one of the manager was kind enough to let me take six of the 5 pack DVD-Rs for the same deal. Nicest guy around!

Why would anyone want to make a backup on Cheap Media??
Maybe Inexpensive Media would be better

Because it saves us money here Richie Rich! Just because it a cheaper price doesnt mean the quality is bad. :)

Hi Guys,
Sorry for not responding sooner, I just got home. I get my +RW media by Leda at shop4tech.com, here is the link:

http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_cata&cata=1&s_cata=88&s_scata=99

I get the 100 pk for 1.39 each, free shipping. I only burn +RW and only use this media. They are great.

Also I should mention that I get my toner and ink jet cartridges for both my laser and ink jet printers from them, they are about 1/2 the price as other places.

This is the link to optodisk gold DVD-R rated at
1X but they will burn at 2X on Sony DRU500. I have used these before and they work great. Also, they are only 82 cents per disk.

I also highly recommend "RIMA" for the Optodisc which burn 2x on sony dru500 and are said to burn at 2x on pioneer dvr-105 with 1.30 firmware, but I have not got it to burn at 2x with my 105 w/1.30 firmware.
also they have the princo 1x for 76cents apiece. Excellent service also-quick email with tracking number#.

meritline lost my order and never called back, finally got someone I wouldnt let call me back, to stay on phone till they repayed me back or send a new order, which they sent me a new order and finaly for 1st time gave a tracking #, I think they try to do right but have some mess-ups now & then. Just more solid service from Rima.

My local Sams Club has Verbatim DVD+R spindle of 30 for $49. They work great in my Sony DRU 500A. They also have Verbatim DVD-R spindle of 25 for $37. I have not bought these because while the DVD+R have 2.4X marked on the package, the spindle of DVD-R has no speed marked. Would this mean a 1X speed?

Verbatim likes to keep secrets. If you get the 5-digit part number off the package, I can tell you what they are.

WELL! That p/n is either custom or a closeout special sku. It doesn't come up from any Verbatim distribtuor or on the web. Dunno what it is.

You're usually better off sticking with what you know works, with this stuff... Brand means very little.

Hello everybody! I have been searching for cheap DVD+R media for a while and I've come across some good deals, however, one was rather surprising. Everyone knows that you can get DVD+R media at CompUSA, CircuitCity, Best Buy, ect for relatively cheap (especially with rebates - even though I despise them). I was in my local Sam's Club (similar to CostCo or BJ's) and I came across a 30-pack spindle (cases not included - but who really likes those jewel cases anyway?!) for $47 that comes out to about $1.56 per disk. One more "plus" to my find was that these discs are made by Verbatim so they are high quality!

This may not entirely be appropriate for this thread but I, along with friends I know, have been dieing to get some of those "real" DVD cases. I found another good deal at http://www.rima.com - the cases I purchased were clear (so I can tell if there are discs in them) and they hold TWO DVD's! Since almost ALL the movies I have backed-up (besides Office Space :o) ) have taken at least two DVD's. I purchased a pack of 100 for $42 - its a steal if ya' ask me! Have a great day!

Hi jdlugo,
I also use RIMA.com for cases, however i use these clear ones that also hold 2 disks, and are the smallest I have seen and very easy to snap in and out. At 100 for $15.00, they are great. I make labels for the front and spline. Here is the link:
