I have 3 Toshiba home Dvd players and they all play Dvd+R media but I find they are very picky when it comes to playing 321 backup dvd's.

Does anybody know of a good Dvd home player that plays back 321 copies without freezing? I know that even though the specks say they play back Dvd+R/RW meadia not all work with 321 backup's. Please advise if you know a brand and model number that is forgiving and plays back your back-up's. I don't care about the cost. Thanks, JD

My advice is to go along to your local retailers and ask to try some players out.
Pick the DVDs that give the most trouble, if you find one that plays straight off without any problems...buy it.

The problem isn't just the software or the media, but the burner the player and so on. You need to find a player that suits your needs, a player that works for one person doesn't mean it will work fine for you.

Sony DVD players never let me down. Sony will play any brand media. Even the cheapest crappiest brand will work fine in a SONY brand DVD player. Panasonic, Toshiba, Onkyo, JVC, and a few others are very picky. I have tested them at a local electronic store. I hope this helps.

I just got back from Circut City and the sales rep recommended the Panasonic DVD-S35 player. He is a big fan of xcopy and told me he tryed over 20 players and found the S-35 works best for all burn media. It has all the bells and whistles of my $500 Toshiba and the cost was only $99. It has the digital optical conection and component video.

We couldn't try it in store because player wasn't hooked up. He told me to try it and if I have any problems bring it back within 30 days for my money back. I watched 2movies that mt Toshibia had problems with and it played great, no interuptions. I tryed an Epressdvd copy and a dvdxcopy with all the features and it worked great.

He told me that he tried several players before finding that this Panasonic played everything he tried R+/R- and DvdRam. He said that they sell out quick because they are one of the best with back-up Dvd's.
Thanks for your help.

I found an AWESOME changer to replace my Onkyo. It's a Panasonic model DVD-F85. I took DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW to the store, and it played ALL of them flawlessly, and with a great picture to boot!

It also plays CD-R/RW, Jpeg, WMA, MP3, something new called HighMat, and get this, it even has DVD-Audio decoding.

It's available in silver or black. Circuit City has the silver one for only $129.00! Unfortunately, they ran out of them just as I finshed my demo trials and wanted to buy it. They even had sold the other demo model. Their website, (Circuitcity.com), has a feature for them to notify you by email once they're back in stock.

If you're interested in this player, make sure you get the F-85, and NOT the F-65. They're both good players, but the F85 has a better chip in it for picture playback, and some other nice features. I posted the stats for it below. I can't wait to get one of these babies home.

My friend downstairs has a Panasonic DVD player. Dont know the model number but anyways it had trouble reading Princo's branded blank DVDs. Try this...make a backup copy of "A Bugs Life" and try it on any Panasonic DVD player. Tell me if they work. If they do then go for a Panasonic DVD player. Sony would play ANY BRAND DVD-/+RW.

I have an el-cheapo Apex 1100, and it has played everything except a few disks made with DXC V1.2.1.

Everything from DXC V1.3 forward, including all disks made in DXCX will play perfectly in the Apex.

It will also play VCD, SVCD, and a few other formats.

If you look for this model of Apex, be aware that there are 2 different versions that use the exact same model number.

It seems that Apex had added all of the extra support for VCD and SVCD etc, and then came out with a replacement for that cheaper model that did not support all of the extra formats.

I originally bought one of the newer ones, and realized when I got it hooked up that it would not play my VCD disks.

I took it back, and in the SAME STACK, there were a few of the earlier ones.

If you look at the picture on the box, you can tell which is which though because one of the LEDs on the picture will say "Video CD", when it doesn't on the newer Apex 1100.

I've used it with a Pioneer DV-525, it works great with everything that I've done. I've also heard that all the Apex players work pretty good with burned cd/dvd's.

The Philips DVD-724 plays everything. It will also play dvds where the DD track is encoded with either little-endian or big-endian methods (the difference is how the first byte is read). I have two other players that will not play a disc that I have encoded with the little-endian byte-set. I thought I'd never consider scrapping a dvd player (especially not 2 of them), but am seriously considering replacing these other two with a Philips 724. Wally world sells them for about $130. Also, it offers progressive scan output, plays every svcd I throw at it, and will automatically play PAL discs (dvd and svcd) hooked to a NTSC set. I must note the remote sucks, but most people have a universal remote they love anyways.

Also, I second the suggestion of going to a local retailer and trying your discs out, but do one more thing also. Once you find a player that is acceptable, have them pull one out of the box to test it also. A lot of manufacturers change the physical drives in the plaer all the time even with the same model player. I have an older Philips/Magnavox that is supposed to support DVD+R, but won't play a single disc I burn (with various media and methods of burning). A friend has the SAME model player and my discs play fine on his. Better to be safe than sorry and most retailers won't mind.

I have a Go Video 4100 that so far has played everything I have stuck in it. I have a Sony DRU500ax and have experimented with all the formats, -r/rw and +r/rw.

I highly recommend this player for playing DVDXCOPY and DXC xpress backups.

My Sony DVP NS315 DVD Player plays all DVD formats (DVD-ROM, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R,DVD-RW) and is very forgiving. No pixelation problems or playback pauses on discs backed up by DXC or DXE.

My Apex AD600A DVD player only plays DVD-ROM and DVD-R, and is not very forgiving. I often run into movies that were backed by DXC/DXE to DVD-R that play, but either show pixelation problems or stop half way through the movie. The same DVD-R disc plays fine in my Sony DVP NS315 player.

Best way to test whether the DVD player will play all formats is to bring some DVD-R/DVD+R discs to Circuit City or Best Buy and see if they play. Circuit City has the best no hassle return or exchange policy. Up to 30 days!

I purchased a cinevision dvd player from Radio Shack for $69 and a mail in rebate for $10. It plays everything I copy with dxc and dxcx. I use verbatim dvd+rw all the time. It works great and everything looks great.

joy53,
I also use +RW media and have found the Leda +RW media to be great. I get them at shop4tech.com @ 1.89 each ($189.00 for 100ct w/free shipping). I mentiom this because I have not found anyone to come close to this in price.

It seems that most of us voted for Sony here. Best reliable brand DVD there is!

I'll second that DVDBURN. Never an issue with my
Sony not playing any backup +R dvd, from any software maker

oneacer, Does the Leda +rw play in your dvd player with your backups made with dxc and dxcx and if so what dvd player are you using?
Also, the price (1.89) is good.

Does your sony dvp ns715p play the (leda +rw) disc you back up with dxc and dxcx? I have the same model, using the verbatim and the sony will not play the dvd I back up with dxc.

It seems you use sony dvd's, where did you find them at a reasonable price? Have you done any backups with dxc and dxcx using sony dvds and what dvd player are you using?
