NEC ND-1300 DVD Burner - does DVD X COPY support this?? - has anyone tried it yet??

I have nec nd1300a(or cendyne dual format drive), I have used dvd xcopy express 2.0.1, worked fine for me.

The 1300 is fully supported under Xpress, but we are having to rewrite the burning system for XCopy to work 100%. generally, with plus media, this drive works fine with the Gear burn engine. You may occasionally get a "02020408h" error, which should only happen at the end after the disc is finished.
This error is just the drive losing contact with the software, and confusing XCopy.
This support will be added in, but we are having to rebuild XCopy to add a new burning engine.

I have two dvd players in my livingroom - a 4 year old expensive Panasonic A360 and a cheap United 3052.
Problem : When I play the back up dvd in the Panasonic, sometimes small digital squares pops up on my television and sometimes it freezes??
Then I play the same back up dvd in the cheap United 3052 - and no problems occur. Why is that, is my Panasonic too old to play back up dvds well??

A friend of mine have the NEC ND-1300, and it works fine in both XCopy and Xpress with + MEDIA that is, with - media it sucks,

Under Xpress,the only problem you should see at all is if you try using really cheap media. The 1300 we have here in the labs works great, but we usually stick with good stuff (TDK,Fuji,Sony,Verbatim, and some HP +). Minus TDK is the norm that I burn to, and the 1300 is my personal favorite (less problems than the sony 510 even!)
Gearworks (under XCopy 1.5.2) has some issues with the minus media under this drive, but this is a limitation of the burn engine. If you are using the 1300, I highly recommend using Xpress most.

you may have better luck, but there are still limitations due to the DVD writer being newer than the API the nero provided at the time we made XCopy 1.5.2. some information sent back from the DVD burner can still cause confusion (although nero API seems more tolerant most of the time).
I would certainly giv it a shot, and make sure the nero you have installed supports your DVD writer ( I think 5.5.10.20+ supports the 1300)

Sorry to ask , how do I use the Nero burn engine when using the DVD X Copy ?
Does it mean after I installed Nero and under the DXC option I just select "Nero" and everything will be automatically OK ?

All you need to do to use Nero is this:
install nero, and make sure that the machine has been rebooted since, then start DVD X Copy and choose Nero in the Advanced options. This setting should stay, so if you start having success, dont touch! :)

I have used a NEC ND1300a.
Works fine in both the full program and the xpress version.
I have used minus media in all instances. Princo 1x dvd-RW, Fuji DVD-r and Ritek G03 media.
Burn slow - works fine. Use 2x or 4x and get errors...

Have you tried to play the copies in a few DVD players? Using the NEC 1300, I can burn but my copies won't play in two new DVD players. The copies will only play in an old Pioneer DVD player. On the other hand, all Xpress copies play in all DVD players. Sometimes I wish I could use X Copy however to get the full copy w/ features on two disks.

I think you maybe right there toolbox, If I use Datawrite DVD-R 4x RED media it relly sucks even if I try slower speed but if you use DVD+R 3T-Pro it's no problem burning in 4x. And these days the verbatim or 3tpro is cheap so I dont se the need to use cheaper media.
Ninerfan, did you try with nero engine? It works fine with right media here.

yes. I have a sony dvd player and they work fine there. Also, have tried on Phillips, Panasonic and pioneer with no problems.

I tried using the NEC 1300A USB 2.0 and it refuses to recognize that I have inserted a DVD-R disk. I have been trying to obtain a refund for the past week, but the 321Studios does not seem responsive or responsible.

Weird...no matter what disks I use in my NEC ND1300 (besides some generics, I've tried Maxell DVD-R & Sony DVD+R), I can burn the DVD's using DVD XCopy (Ver. 1.5.2) provided I set it to use the Nero Burn Engine (Nero 5.5.10.50) but I can't get them to be read by most DVD players. I've tried burning with & without the "alternate player compatibility mode" selected. I can play the copies fine on my old Pioneer 525 but not on my Panasonic DV-SR31 nor my neighbors new Toshiba DVD player. Those of you with the NEC ND-1300, what settings/disks are you using so I can try it exactly as you are?
Version of DVD Xcopy?
Version of Nero?
Did you check "alternate player compatibility mode" under Nero options?
Disk type/manufacturer used?

So far the only thing that has remotely worked, is Xpress here. DXC is a total screw the pootch situation on these newer drives. I have updated the drive to it's latest BIOS build, and all that did was add compatibility to mroe media as far as I can tell. DXC is still totally useless.
To add to that, they (321 studios) seems to not care about the situation. I have asked 321_Geek by a post here and by PM to no avail. I have sent multiple emails to them at 321 and nothing. Seems to me after 321_Geek admited here that it needs to be rebuilt in order to function properly with this drive, nothing is really being done. But hey, at leaast they know something should be done......
On the other hand, Alcohol 120% is functioning nicely. Go figure..

I use the nero engine instead of the gear engine when I am using the NEC drive. You might want to try and use the alternate compatability mode on a RW to see how that goes fo you. Seems to work both ways for me.
I will say this, though - I have a removeable rack drive system for my computer. That means that when I want to backup a movie, I use a special hard drive that is used for nothing but that purpose.
I have the OS, the ATI dvd player that comes with my video card, and the latest version of DVDxCopy Gold. I don't have ANYTHING ELSE on the drive. Not only is there nothing else running, but there is nothing else installed on the hard disk... No internet, no printer drivers, no other dvd players, no competing dvd backup software, nothing.
I use Princo DVD-RW (1x) media and Ritek G03 (1x) media. Both are minus media - both have been working beautifully. Never seen a coaster which everybody has been talking about. Those are for drinks, right? (You have 4x media, though? What are you in such a hurry for? 1x is cheaper and MAKES the burner run slower generating less errors.)
If you are having trouble, you might try a dedicated HDD in a rack set up. (Removeable rack drives are cheap and great for backing up your computer!)
Two other notes - DVD burners generate plenty of heat and require lots of power. Make sure you have ample power by way of a 400+ watt power supply and lots of fans for cooling. Low power and high heat will give you a poor quality burn.
If you have other drives that you are not using while backing up a cherished movie - disable them, or better yet - don't have them powered on at all. No sense having your Zip or LS120 drive eating up system resources or all of those USB devices like the camera and 2 printers all on while performing a dvd write operation...
See if you can get your system resources above 95% available before backing up your next movie...
It's impossible to have conflicts this way, and all system resources are dedicated to one task.

Success! I finally can copy using DVD XCopy with my NEC ND-1300A. The resulting disks are readable by both my DVD players. Success only with DVD +R disks for me (in this case, it was Sony DVD+R's). Latest firmware in NEC ND-1300A & latest version of DVD XCopy using Gearworks burn engine, not Nero Burn Engine. Gearworks won't work for my DVD-R disks.
Both DVD-R & DVD+R work with Xpress (even the cheapie $1 disks).

So good to hear that it work for you for a dedicated harddisk ... I also tried by rack system and have two harddisk mainly setup for DVD X Copy Gold. One is on Win ME and the other is on Win XP Home Edition (I specially went to buy the Win XP OS for this backup). The reason is that I want to test out which is the best to do this backup job.
Using Gold Version 3.0.1
So far my results as follows : -
Win ME and Win XP HE : -
DXC - Sometime can copy out the whole movie but hanged during burn stage or even during copy stage hanged.
Express - Sometime can copy and burn but sometime can copy but hanged at burn stage.
Tried upgrade to Gold Version 3.0.2 .... still the same problem.
As for the Nero burn engine , when select with "alternate player compatibility mode" , it can burn but can only playback in computer and not in stand alone dvd player. When select without ... it just hanged.
Try download the Platinum version ... after installed on the Win XP HE harddisk than restart computer ... worse thing happened ... crashed my computer ... cannot boot into Window at all. In the end I had to re-format the harddisk and re-install Win XP HE again.
It is already over 90 days since last post to this thread, you're not allowed to post here anymore.
