I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my Cendyne DVR-105 drive from 1.00 to 1.30 using r5ta130.rar from the Cendyne website. Everytime I try to upgrade my firmware it saids "Failed to move to the normal mode" and never upgrades the firmware. Has anyone else had this issue? The reason I'm trying to upgrade my FW is Xpress 2.0.1 has never worked for me. Everytime I try to read a DVD it gives the error "Error occured reading sectors". I hoping a FW upgrade will help? Also I was wanting to know if I use a Sony DVD-Rom to read the DVD and my Cendyne drive to write will this solve my problems? Please help...

Windows XP Pro
Intel P4 2.26

Install SP1 for XP. It cures over half of the DVD reading and burning problems.

As for updating the firmware, what are the instructions for Cendyne updates?

Make sure you do NOT have INCD on your computer. Usually gets installed when you install the Cendyne software.

For the firmware for the cendyne I just updated one for my friend. What I had to do was open the comp case, make the burner the only drive on secondary channel, set it to pio mode then the firmware updated without any problem. Then I went back and put the rom back on with the burner. Give that a try it worked for his system.

Good catch on how to update the Cendyne. I had no clue.

To check DMA or PIO: Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. One at a time, right click on the primary and secondary channel, click on properties, advanced settings. Should be a pull down which will allow you to change the settings. Click on OK, then do it for the other channel. Click OK. DMA is much faster, but usually need to set your computer to PIO to properly upgrade your firmware.

Ok, Thanks everyone for the help but my Xpress still doesn't want to work. I just installed SP1 and all the updates for XP Pro. Upgraded my Cendyne 105 firmware to 1.30. Reinstalled Xpress. I've done everything!! I even installed my old sony dvd-rom to try and see if Xpress will just read the dvd but it comes back w/ the same "Error occured reading sectors". I would guess I have something loaded on my PC that is conflicting w/ Xpress since both drives give the same error message. I've looked @ XPress's blacklist programs that are supposed to cause problems but I don't have any of those installed on my PC. I even uninstalled anything that I thought might have been causing this problem, but still no luck. Please help....
