DVD X Copy xpress

I downloaded and tried the trial version of Xpress May 10, 2003. It loaded perfectly on my Dell 8250, Pentium 4, 2.40GHZ with 512 MB Ram. I was able to copy the partial movie allowed by the trial and it played to completion on both my RCA and Toshiba DVD players. Feeling confident about the Xpress program, I downloaded the latest version (2.0.1) on May 11, 2003. Installed it and the program ran on the computer as expected. Burned two seperate movies to both DVD+R and DVD+RW and neither would play on my two DVD players beyond the disclaimer. On the RCA, it would cause the player to shut down. The Toshiba would freeze at the disclaimer screen and go no further regardless of my actions. I tried a different brand of media (Maxwell & Verbatim) and had the same results. The copied DVD's played on my DEll Computer DVD-Rom without any problems. (I uninstalled the trial version before installing version 2.0.1.) At this point, I uninstalled version 2.0.1 and reinstalled with background programs deactivated and the register edited. Same results. Called tech support and asked what version the trial was based upon. He told me version 2.0. I asked if he would send me that version which he did. I uninstalled version 2.0.1 and installed the earlier version 2.0. I was now able to copy a DVD and play it back on the Toshiba until the next to last chapter where it froze. At this time, I was using Verbatim DVD+RW media. I thought that maybe a DVD+R might solve the problem - and it did to a point. I now could get to the LAST chapter before it froze. In neither case would it play on my RCA DVD. I then tried installing version 2.0.1 over 2.0. It went back to not playing on either DVD player beyond the disclaimer screen. I uninstalled the software and reloaded version 2.0 and again the copied DVD's would play on the Toshiba but, only to, or next to, the last chapter, depending on the media (DVD+R or DVD+RW). I downloaded ASPI update which also had no affect on the above. I think this software version (2.0.1) which is recently released has a bug not found in version 2.0. I do not know why my copied DVD's using version 2.0 hang toward the end of the movies (next to or last chapter). Using 2.0, all other function appear to work as expected. I know this is long but am concerned about these problems. Any suggestions?

I did go back to 2.0 as noted in my original message. However, now when I get to the last, or next last chapter the movie hangs. This has happened on all movies I have copied using various media. I downloaded the latest ASPI as directed by tech support with no luck (see original post). Also note, that 2.0.1 would not play on my RCA either. TECH SUPPORT TOLD ME THAT A VERSION CHANGE IS DUE FOR RELEASE WITHIN TWO WEEKS (VERSION 2.5) He said that this is to fix the hang at the disclaimer screen being experienced by many users. My computer is a powerhouse as noted in my original post. All drivers are the latest, as I keep them current. My Dell was delivered to me in January, 2003. One post said to load the DVC on a separate drive which I will try tomorrow. If the new version will not correct my problems, I guess there is no other option except to receive a refund. Too bad as I feel this is a really good program - just not bug free yet.

hey abj5,

The problem you were having in 2.0.1 I think is being caused by the Fullscreen/Widescreen switch, as 2.0.1 had new code for the detection of wide/full, and if you have wide selected when full is the ONLY option, it will try copying, but make a disc that is confusing to the DVD player.

I have directly seen this, and by merely switching the wide/full switch, the burn works fine. Please let us know if this helps you guys out in the field...

Also, the two weeks is a hopeful guess, as we honestly don't directly know when. If something comes up from adding new code, the new version may take longer! we don't want to release a bad version, justto meet a deadline.
