I haven't read or heard anything about this practice Disney is supposed to be looking into. Give us a link if you guys get a chance.

In this case I'm not so certain. They may use the word rent, but in reality you may have bought these disks, since they absolved themselves of physical ownership, with no expectations of return.... There are many Constitutional references on this matter.
FBI This DVD may not be reproduced in whole or in part... yaddayadda...but yet we use DXC...just a thought!

The logic is as follows: Disney wants to expand where it rents its movies. Since the movies self-destruct, people will not have to return them. That means more retailers can rent movies since there is practically no overhead; all they have to do is stock the destucto-dvd. They don't have to keep track of where they go, nor do they have to worry about getting them back.
You'll see the movies in places like Cheveron, 7-11, etc...
They can have my DXC when they pry it from my cold, dead, fingers.

...oh well...I wonder how netflix's going to ship their rentals...maybe they'll sent the costumer a box full of blank destructing media and then the costumer is supposed to download the movies via fast access internet to record them...but that would not work because the costumer will then replace destructing media with regular media and of corse ,then play dumb ( oh, I just could not tell them appart)...so scratch that...maybe they'll use the space shuttle for a fast couple hours delivery...but scratch that also, since we're mentioning destructive items here...or maybe they'll send it in an enclosed package that would remain closed until the costumer opens it, but then your dealing with the "It was already opened when it got here-I want a refund" situation...lol

Wasn't there some crap called divix or something like that where the movies were good for only 2 or 3 showings?I don't know about the"landmine"disc or anything but the thought has entered my head that somebody will make a code for the dvd that"overides" the dxc program soon(not to P.O anybody).
Did you see that?

DIVX & Circuit City. Been there, done that. A thought though, as has happened to me, how many times have you had to keep a rented disc beyond the return date? For any number of reasons I've had to retain many rentals beyond there return date, i.e. family member wanted to see it more than once, newly arrived guest wants to see it, family member wants to take it home to show others and will foot the late charge, etc.
If these Disney discs act like "flash paper", they're gonna miss out on some additional funds because I don't think I'd go back and re-rent for additional viewing, too inconvenient!
The older I get the better I know how to utilize my time.

More than likely they won't replace the current disks that goto regular rental places such as BLOCKBUSTER or HOLLYWOOD, etc. Most likely only a way to get into other stores that don't want to have to deal with returns.

I for one actually think this is a good idea! Think about it, Disney = Kids movies. I am a proud parent of two. If there is one thing have learned about Disney movies, they are watched over and over and over, they never get old! Disney's idea is to get your kid to watch the movie, then after the cd self distructs, have your kid cryin to see it again, so this time you have to go buy the DVD. Now they just sqeezed more money out of my pocket (though my Kids are well worth it). In all, by the time these come out, the folks using them are goign to be the folks that are behind on the tech. forfront. withen the next couple of years multimedia boxes like the next generation Xbox will be able to download games/movies via highspeed (which is coming 4x faster than any expert has stated previously).
A good place for these distructive dvd's are the gaming cummunity, think about it, buy your favorite magazine with a full version (that self destructs) of Tom Clancy's next game, giving you full playability.

With everything that every software company puts out, there is a crack. It does not matter what kind of encryption that is used or how detailed the key code is, there is a crack to it. Eventually there may be a crack proof software. That is not today. I don't care how elaborate software gets, there will always be that small group of people that do not have a life and live in their parents' basement that crack just for the challenge of it. Advertise that a software is "uncrackable", offer a reward. I am willing to bet that within 2 weeks that software will be fully cracked. For example, Maya 4.5. What does it cost? 4 maybe 5,000 bucks. I "saw" a fully cracked copy on the internet. "My friend" downloaded it and it worked perfectly. It was not an easy one to crack. But my point is, is that no matter what companies do....we are out there, you can not get rid of us. We will not be suppressed.
The same applies for these movie studios.
In fact, bring it on. Computer geeks everywhere will hack anything that they can do.
Of course this does not apply to DXCX. I actually think that the price is very reasonable for what it does. Now if 321 charged $2000 for the software, you could count on a cracked version.
