xpress will read the movies then will prompt me to insert a blank disk and thats all the start button never lights up again.
I downloaded xpress on 4/29 and have called
321 support 6 times(a combined 3hrs on hold)
first I was told that there was extra incryption on the dvd since I bought previously viewed dvd's from hollywood video
then I was told to wait 24hrs then uninstall
and reinstall(server prob.understandable)
but in the end none of it worked.
I have tried both dvd+/dvd- media with 9 different movies all with the same result.
I've most of the posts and found no problems
quite like mine hopefully someone here has
some ideas, I'm out.

tody,
This may be a dumb question, so I apologize ahead of time..
But do you have a DVD burner?
If so, can you burn DVD's in other programs?
<Edited 5/12 4:52 PM CST>
Oh, I see it now.. it's an optorite 4x dvd+/- burner.
You may want to make sure that the drivers and firmware are up to date for that drive.
What OS are you using?
Also, have you run the "Drive Select"?

I'm running windows xp home and the drive select comes up on startup (i'll fix that later)so I select drive D: the optorite burner
that reads as generic crd-bpov2 0.85 (D) (IDE)
as for copying I copied krazysitter to file
using dvd decrypter and burned it to a disk
using B's recorder gold (it came with the drive)but I could only burn it in file form
since B's will not burn protected dvd's
and gave me no option to burn from the HD.
The dvd-rw is set as secondery master with a
norcent cd-rw as secondery slave (E) both
connected to IDE 2 on the motherboard.
The hard drive is alone as primary master
connected to IDE 1 on a PCI controller card.
I have uninstalled all other dvd software and
that was no help.
I need to know if there is a bug in xpress or
maybe the optorite won't burn protected dvd's

tody,
To stop the "Drive Select" from starting every time you boot the machine, just delete the "Drive Select" shortcut from the "Startup" folder in your Start Menu.
I don't know if I read that right, but are you using a Promise card, or an IDE Expansion card?
Promise cards have been giving our burning process problems. Some people fixed it with a driver update, but in order to find out if that is the problem, I would suggest that you remove it, and then try the back-up again.

If you have B's still installed that may also be the problem. As toolman18 had mentioned about other packet writing software may conflict with Express and B's is on the no-no list from this link:
http://support.321studios.com/faq/faqsupport.asp?Function=Question&ID=1137&CatID=9999 Also sometimes if you remove a burning software program that also has a packet writing function the packet writing program may have a separate listing in your add/remove list and has to be uninstalled separately.
If I remember correctly B's is also on the no-no list from VSO, which is the burning engine for Express.
Good luck

I removed the promise ATA 100 controller card it was only reading 127gb on a 180gb HD anyway
then I went back to make sure that any other
dvd software was gone then I tried xpress again
using fujifilm dvd+r/that's dvd+r/memorex dvd-r
the that's dvd+r disk came with the burner.
Same results xpress reads the movie asks for a
blank disk I give it one and thats it the start
button never lights up again

tody,
one thing that was over looked,go to device mgr and see if the driver loaded for xpress, the
driver will be listed as vso devices,if its not there the driver did not load for xpress to be able to burn.
if not there reinstall xpress then check for the driver in device mgr._
THATS THE DRIVER,IT WAS INSTALLED.
Can you use that burner to burn any dvd in any other program?
i found xpress 2.0 and dvdxcopy ver-1.41 works better on most systems, xpress 2.0.1 does does seem to not work as well on most systems.

in the device manager there is a vso device
called a Patin Couffin engine if thats the one
in question I got it.
I'm begining to think that I'm the only one
to have one of these optorite burner's I've
not been able to find anyone to compare notes
with on this or any other dvd forums I've checked I think it might be getting close to
time to consider returning this one and getting
a sony or something else

I think I'm having the same problem as Tody. The movie copies to my hard drive fine, then the program stops responding. My Ikebana burner copies data and audio files fine and will play movies, but I haven't had any success with burning movies. I noticed that my CPU usage goes to 100% at the time when the burn is supposed to begin. I have 512 MB RAM with about 330 MB available memory. Does that mean insufficient memory? Many of the terms and phrases I'm reading in these forums are Greek to me. If I can't get it to work soon I'm taking everything back.
socalMat,
May save you alot of headaches if you want this to work

I have been using Xpress successfully but tried copying Dog Soldiers without success. It reads the disc all the way through and then as soon as it comes to burn it says it has completed it but nothing has burnt. Any ideas !!!

At the current time, not all discs can be copied with Xpress. Wait for the next version.

News for all regarding the OptoRite 4x +/- burner:
This drive does NOT work with the current incarnation of Xpress!!! (2.0 or 2.0.1!!)
We got one of these drives in the labs here, and got very little from it (EXACTLY the same behavior!!!)
This is NOT a fault of the drive, but our burner software is too old!!! this is a very new drive, and our engine people are working on our drive right now to add support for this drive directly!
If you have this drive, and are working under regular DVDXCopy, the only success I had was on Nero +/- , or on Gear (minus only).
This will be fixed soon! please stay tuned.

I was just about to box up my optorite and try
to exchange it for another brand of burner but
now I'll wait and see what the the boys in the
lab come up with. (real soon I hope)
p.s. if you need a test pilot let me know

tody,
I will keep that in mind. Our engine guys are working as-we-speak to get it up and going. It may still be a couple of weeks before we can get support trickled down. if need be, PM me and I can let you know where things stand regarding that drive, and possible estimates on timeframe.

"To stop the "Drive Select" from starting every time you boot the machine, just delete the "Drive Select" shortcut from the "Startup" folder in your Start Menu."
Stupid question but, if I do this, how will my computer know to select the correct drive? The 2 options that come up are my DVD burnder and my CD burner. How can I ensure that the program will default to the DVD burner?
