YES MY BURNER IS IN DEVICE MANAGER AND IT SEE IT. I ALSO PUT A MOVIE IN THE BURNER AND IT WORKS. BUT I CANT BURN NOT ONE MOVIE. I HAD NERO 550107B AND IT WILL START TO BURN BUT THEN IT WOULD MAKE ME A COASTER. THEN I UPGRADE NERO TO 551028 AND THEN IT SAYS THE NEW A NEW DVD. NOT ENOUGH SPACE. THAT IS THE ERROR MESSAGE I AM GETTING IN NERO. I CAN'T BURN NOTHING I GOT ABOUT 5 BAD DVDS NOW. I GOT WIN XP SP1. I GOT ENOUGH SPACE ON HARD DRIVE 17 GIG. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE. I ALSO USE THE ASPI V70 AND NOTHING IS WORKING FOR ME RIGHT NOW. I TRY EVERYTHING THAT I COULD THING OF. THE ONLY THING WITH HP 300E. IT COMES WITH DLA AND IT ON MY COMPUTER NOW I INSTALL IT WITH THE SOFTWARE THAT CAME WITH HP 300E. I DID NOT SEE IT IN HP 200E. COULD THAT BE IT. THANK FOR ALL THE HELP.

My HP200 did come with DLA software, and caused the type of problems you described, once removed everything cleared up. It is not needed, so try un-installing DLA and see if that helps.
The disk space issue you mentioned was caused by having DLA and the other software that came with the drive installed, I suggest removing all your HP drive software and reboot.
You can also try using ASPI 4.6. I am using ASPI 4.72 without problems, but if the above dla un-install does not work, you can try that.
ASPI should not be an issue since your using USB 2.0 and not firewire...right!
I do not believe any specific version of Nero matters, v5.5.10.28 works for most, if your system is in order.
ps, get rid of the CAP'S

Ozziewiz:
I agree, remove DLA
Are you using USB? Is your laptop usb port 1.1 or 2? The HP drive needs usb 2 correct? This could be part of the problem as well.

OZZIE,
Do yourself a favor and buy +RW discs to burn with instead of +R. Second, what DVD/CD rom do you have? If you don't have one, are you trying to use the 300e as a double duty piece of equipment? Please answer these questions and we will move on from there.

I have HP dvd 300i and it works pretty good. You said that you use to burn movies with no problem before. If I were you I'd return the DVD burner and try a different model.

OZZIE,
Have you checked your settings for both your internal DVD-rom,and external 300e in the device manager? If you have not, please do, and make sure your internal is set to PIO mode, and the 300e is set to UDMA,or DMA. By doing this it will set your internal as the slave drive and the 300e as the master. Keep me up to date.

After reading all the posts here only thing I can think of left is to see if there may be a resource conflict. To do this turn of the burner and reboot the comp with the burner of. After the comp boots then turn on the burner so it will be the device that gets priority if there is a conflict. Then see if it burns before you reboot again. I know this sounds crazy but it is what a friend has to do on his laptop to get his hp that is in enclosure to burn. If he boots up with the burner on it will not work. His is in a case he bought and put a 200i in though so the problem is therein for him. Yours being purchased as external should not have this problem but never know.

I can't get DVDC or DVDCX to work unless I unplug my external burner but that is the one I want to use. I want the internal one to read the DVD. If this is not the place to ask this question please don't shoot me. I am able to burn using both DVDC and DVDCX but I wish they would burn faster. It is too late to take back the external besides I want to be able to copy disk to disk. Ireland, I just know you can help me

WHY DON'T YE,pull the hp-200 and install a lite-on 166s dvd rom and make it a master.burns will be much faster,if a movie now takes 25 min with the lite-0n it will take 14 min to rip....
thats what i would do if i have your system...
lite-on 166s cost around $39.00
i know ye wants to burn at 4x--don't do it,
ye will get poor results, the slower the burn, the better your movies will turn out...
i won't shoot ye,i hope this helps ye....
in that way the system will see your external
burner,as the main burner....
COPY WHAT TO DISK TO DISK,YOU CAN NOT COPY DISK TO DISK WITH A BACK UP COPY....
ALSO I SURE HOPE YOU GOT AT LEAST A 300 WATT POWER TRANSFERMER INSTALLED WITH ALL THEM GOODIES...

Anybody have probs with HP300i saying "optical power calibration failure" then ejects the blank DVD+R?Only happens when the burning starts so I put it back in then it burns.Only a few times has it turned a blank into a coaster but just like anyone else I like no problems.Using DVDXCOPY1.5.2
