I have had DVD X Copy and Express from the beginning and was one of those that had absolutely no problems with either one.

I just installed Plantinium and nothing but problems. Main thing it will not recongize my burner, a HP300I, never had that problem with the other two programs.

The first time I install Plantinium it showed a series of yyyyy for available burner . I uninstalled and also uninstalled X Copy and Express and reinstalled Plantinium and then in settings it show nothing at all for burner. So I have reinstalled X Copy and Express for now.
Has anyone else had this problem with program not seeing your burner?

I understand the problems with the new software and all the different hardware and no standards to speak of. Heck I am amazed I can copy a DVD as easy as I can. But because I have only owned Platinum I can not go back to the older version until everything is worked out.

P.S. I also show ascii in the drive selection but when I run pcsetup I see both my drives no problem. But is sounds like they know about this and are working on it.

Processor (P4 2Ghz)
OS (WinXP Pro SP1)
Motherboard (Abit i845E-W83627HF)
Installed RAM (256 MB RAM)
Hard drive (120 Gig Western Digital)
ROM Drives (Optorite DD0203 / Ver 2.17)
Software (DVD X Copy Platinum 3.0) (Nero 6,0,0,11)

my problems with platinum are as follows:
simple mode
looks like it works didn't confirm
advanced mode
can't preview video just empty black box
on the movie (man apart) it contains both wide and full screen checked the titleset on each one then rip. platinum reads for about 3 seconds then wants to burn. if i put blank media in, it makes a blank coaster. if i check all title sets it lets me into the compression screen and will let me read movie.

This problem is maybe related to the movie (only 1 titleset) but Platinum will only read the disc for a couple of seconds and then ask to insert the blank media for recording (which I will not do because it will be a frisbee). This happens in simple and advanced mode.

However, DVDXCOPY 1.5.2 works fine with this movie title.

Seems that I need to keep both dvdxcopy 1.5.2 and Platinum in my system for a while.

Guys,

Same problem here. Insert disc after a few seconds it asks for empty disc to burn. Nothing gets burn but the initial messages.

Oh well Let's hope someone find a solution.

Thank you,

Here's how Platinum resolves the 99% issue...

There is little in the way of extras on the Simpson's Season Three discs, but they do have a huge file that is storyboards of the animation...once that was removed, everything came out good, pretty good guality as well. The menus are still there and everything works, I am assuming that the 99% was due to Xpress (in entire disc mode) not being able to compress it to the size of a blank DVD...once I had the option to remove something, all went well. I did this with the Simpsons Season Three Disc 2 and 4 and Family Guy Disc Four (which always hung up at 99%) and that came out great too.

So...in the end a MAJOR problem has been resolved by Platinum. Works for me...

My Platinum problems:

a) Platinum lists two drives as "yyyyr" (note - I believe one of the drives is my Nero 6.x Image drive) - I only have one writer. The log file contains

Drive: 4:0:0 - SONY DVD RW DRU-500A 2.0f [W] Scsi)
Drive Index: 0

b) Drive select program won't work - it doesn't seem to even start. The Drive Select with Xpress used to work but now it doesn't (same thing - no start)

c) in Advanced mode, it finds the DVD in the drive but when I select a title and try to view
it just hangs - task manager shows it as "not responding" - have to delete task to stop.

Running Windows XP Pro SP1 with all the latest Windows Updates applied. Have a Sony DRU500a with latest firmware. Both DVDXCopy and DVDXCopy Express have been working perfectly after I did a fresh Windows XP install. Also running Nero 6.x.

Has anyone been able to make a copy of "The Time Machine" (the new one) with "Platinum", or complete disk (to only one disk) with any other program ??

I had the problem with yyyyr tpe stuff as well, so leaving Platinum installed I went into the device manager and removed the dvd drive. I then rebooted and let Windows reinstal it. Then Platinum showed the drive properly.

With platinum I can read the disk but it wont burn in either mode it just sits like a dumb dog doing nothing after I insert the blank media to burn after clicking start. I never had this problem with DCX, I thought software gets better as we advance................

Does Platinum allow for dual disk spanning so that I can get 0% compression??

Yes it does. Just un check "use compression" and the compression tab at the top turns into a "splitting" tab.

installed Platinum (DXCP) yesterday, and have not been able to burn a DVD with it so far in Advanced mode!

Lack of Help files does not help, especially if this is a cockpit error?

I have tried Matrox, Lord of the Flies (LOF), Avia and Video Essentials. The last two were not even recognized by DXCP.

Videos do not preview (in Advanced, selected Titles, the subsets and Preview Video).

Several times I had to restart DXCP to get it to seem to read Matrox and LOF. I could not get it to read single "titles" in Matrox (did not try with LOF). Some tries, it would go to insert blank media for burn mode after very short attempt at reading DVD.

When it did seem to read a DVD, and go to Step 2, it would not recognize my media (DVD+RW- Imation) and just sat there until I closed the program.

Not a very good beginning for this new release.

I am using a Sony 510A, and have closed NAV and other running programs.

I know these problems have been posted above, but have to add my woes to the litany.

My next step was to download Platinum again and reinstall it.

I did this, and still have the same problems. Now, DXCP know that Video Essentials and Avia are present, but after a few seconds of trying to read (Step 1) it goes to Step 2.

I tried the "Simple" tab of DXCP, and got the same rapid read attempt, then Step 2.

Good thing my DXCopy Gold is still present.

The first time I used the simple feature, it read the movie "Go" in about 15 minutes, then it started the burn, but less than 1 minute later said the burn was complete, but it didn't burn anything. I used XPRESS, and it worked fine for just the movie.

Next I tried the same movie in Advanced, got rid of everything but the movie in Wide screen & Full screen. The total was about 6.3GB, and it burned fine, but the video quality was horrible & very jumpy. I looked it up & for some reason it compressed it down to 3.37GB. No wonder the quality is so bad.

fargen: (and others)

321 has made a "tool" to let you know and help you load if you do get plat. it seems we can now check it out ourselves. go to the following URL:

http://www.dvdxcopy.com/support/index.htm

Now, in the bottom left corner, you can upgrade yourself automatically to Platinum if you qualify by entering the license id and password of a DVD X COPY product or a DVD X COPY Gold product. Once you enter these two pieces of information, you will be asked to verify some additional info and the system will automatically generate a new license id for Platinum.

I'm sorry, but if you purchased at retail, it may necessitate a call into customer service to update your account for the upgrade, as we must be fair to everyone involved and require some proof of purchase to upgrade you to Platinum.

(above info is from a 321 rep)

I have noticed the Simple Mode within Platinum does not work using the Entire Disk feature,it will read apx.5 seconds then states "Insert Blank Media".If I use Simple Mode without the Entire Disk feature the read and write will work.
I still have the Express version 3.0 still installed on my P.C and this problem does not happen using the Entire Disk feature.

With Platinum I can read the disk but when I insert the blank media it will not burn. The start button remains greyed out after media is inserted. After exiting platinum I can find the copied movie on my hard drive and view it using WIN DVD 4. No prior burn problems with any version of DVD X Copy or Xpress.

Kind of a long shot here, but for those of you having trouble...did you happen to download and install from the ftp site within the last few days before installing the relase version yesterday? I am wondering if the issue is because the ftp build that was downloaded had problems that an overwrite couldn't clear up.

Does anyone else besides me get an error that states.....Error:This Video_TS.IFO doesn't contain any title?....Whenever I open either standard or advanced mode I get this error...I even uninstalled all 321 products and re-installed platinum and still I get the error....I did a system restore to before I installed platinum, and my Express and dvdx both give the same errors now so I have nothing that works now!!!!!What gives?

security and bbullock,

Platinum is Platinum. Xpress is Xpress. They are two different programs. Xpress is not a program or feature of Platinum.

Although the GUI for the Simple Mode in Platinum looks the same as Xpress, it is not Express. I don't see any need to delete any versions of DVD XCopy XPress in order to get Platinum to work correctly in the Simple mode.

Platinum problems I have:

I have tried several movies and so far 2 problems are observed:

1) In some movies (i.e. Muppets from Space) Platinum reads for a few seconds and then asks to insert blank media. This occurs in both simple and advanced modes!

2) DVD read fails when trying to read DVD movie using external USB 2 DVD player. Error: Error reading some sectors. I can read from internal HP200i burner OK.

Neither of the above problems occur with DVDXCOPY 1.5.2 I still have in the PC.
