security,
i have not had any problems with my sony u10a, and would like to keep it that way, that why i havent updated its firmware to dru500a v2.0f. i have made about 10 coasters(out of about 200 attempts) with both +/-R but 7 of them were my fault, other 3...ghosts in my machine;)
i have used verbatim -r, fuji+r/rw, sony+/-RW, and now the tdk +r with no problems. still have about 70 or so left...seems like my machines like +r so thats what i tend to look for most.
however, i would like to take advantage of these internet sales, that pop up from time to time. But i am wary of the compatibility/quality issues of off-brand media. oneacer lives by his Leda rw for a gr8 price too. and i hear alot about princo and ritek.
did you hear anything about ritek moving to 4x media exclusively or did i misinterpret the grapevine?

I would stay tuned into that grape vine.around the time i actualy started posting some thread topics were"help riteks out of stock everywere"
and "what do i use until the riteks come back"
so the thing i did was start learning what brands i can use. this thread was great for that as people post things as small as a good deal on a five pak all the way up to the now famous "oneacer special" (100 pak +rw)
through it all i never came accross a ritek yet so icant tell you . i have heard some say all 2.4 media is going away. but i think its that SOME FACTORYS are doing exclusions and not the whole industry:) (thats why all the upgrades in firmware and yes i was scared to upgrade mine)but if your using the tdk THEY SHOULD BE 4X ? and you have no probs ? well burn on then ! 70 left you say? well i still think you should buy a small pak of the imation at 40% off and try them that day. if they work this is a great chance to stock up (third lowest price i ever saw .50 was lowest/1.10 second lowest) these imations are 1.20 in the 50 pak. and remeber what i said in above post about rw HEY ALL SALE ENDS THIS SAT NITE!
:)

High guys, I'm a newbie who has silently been gather a plethra of info regarding all aspects of DVD movie replication. I have found a deal that appears to be pretty sweet. J&R Electronics is offering a 10 pack of Khypermedia for 14.88$ W/ 5 dual slim jewel cases. It doesn't list the write speed so I am assuming 1X but not sure. I haven't burned any movies on this brand either, but I plan to buy a 10 pack and let you know.

See,
An obvious newbie mistake, forgot to post the link:
Most of us 'oldies' avoid Khypermedia brand. It has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. If you can, stick with the brands that either you have tried before, or look at what others say they have had good luck with.

i am sorry if i may have mislead you, my sony doesnt burn at 4x. i dont see the value(saving ~9min) in the risk(maybe frying a perfectly good burner).
i burn happily at 2.4x, i did save time by adding a sony dvdrom, and maybe a little money in the long run;)
i will look for those imations and keep tabs on the grapevine, lol

is this what you were talking about when you said...
"I made the error of ordering the 6163s and they are the size of retail Video DVD cases. oneacer got the 6133 dual cases which are smaller and the size of a regular jewel case. I think you are looking for the same size cases I want i.e., clear dual cases that are the size of regular thin/slim cases but hold 2 DVDs. I first got them when I bought Khypermedia DVD+R discs from Microcenter in Va. They are very thin slim, clear dual cases. I can't seem to find a vendor offering them. I first thought oneacer was referring to those and ordered some but had to quickly cancel the order when I realized they were the size of regular jewel cases."
if not i'll keep looking, if they are the size of a regular dvd case, i would like them as well!

i checked it out ..but with 6.00 min ship charge per order thats over 2.00 per disc
now this is a small pak (ten) so i understand its a good deal in that aspect but if i ever pay more than a 1.50 per disc i would probably get the oneacer special. because at that price
im going to start expecting rw capabilities
i hate to sound like a bought stock in imation lol but you still have two days to put an order into best buy for those 40 % off imation dvd+r
much better quality than khypermedia

I just ordered DVD+RW From: http://store.yahoo.com/blankcdcdr/combo-deal-dvdr-rw-combo.html 50 disks with double cases for $110.00 free shipping. I'm using a Vivastar DVD burner and so far haven't had any problems with DVD+RW: "EMTEC" or "BMI". I hope these "RITEK" are just a good! Anyway best price I could find. Bill

Hi billmill1,
I get my +RW at shop4tech.com. I use the Leda brand, 1.79 each(179.00 for 100) with free shipping. They work great. Also there inkjet and toner prices are also the cheapest around.

Right after I bought my hp dvd200i, I picked up a pack of 6 blanks at a good price at Wal-Mart. A week or so later, I realized they were -R. :-( I forgot about them until yesterday when I was cleaning out a closet. Anybody want them? My ZIP is 38002 - how about $6 & shipping? They're Memorex blue case PN 32025510, UPC 034707055100. PM or e-mail me thru my profile.
drb,
that beats the oneacer "leda special" by almost half! security needs to check this out, finally get to try some princo!
one happy dad,
ben

they key here is the format. oneacer uses the +RW format. while drb is using the -RW discs.
yes both are rewritable and both are good deals in their separate categories
myself, i got the FUJIFILM +r discs at best buy for 40% off (and i was smiling too)
have you taken a look around the aforementioned link, you'll see that drb has found both formats of rw for less than the infamous, "oneacer special", and with free shipping to boot( on orders over 25 'pieces')
and i am still smiling;)
i havent needed to stock up on blanks as i still have about 30 tdk 4x left. there is a peculiar, yet familiar burning sensation in my pocket...lol
i just might have to go and get some rws and +/-r from yesbuy!
keep smiling....makes everyone wonder what you're up to;-b
ben
ps. if you guys aren't too busy looking for better buys, try rackin; your brain on the movie quote thread!

Hi serious,
I just went on your yesbuy site and while you can get RITEK +RW at 100 for $170.00, it also adds 10.40 shipping putting the total at 180.40. Although still a good deal, my LEDA at 100 for $179.00 with free shipping still wins out. I have a 100% success rate with LEDA. Thanks though, if I ever can't get mine, I will try them.

Received and tried the Ritek +RW discs from: http://store.yahoo.com/blankcdcdr/combo-deal-dvdr-rw-combo.html They came with 50 double DVD cases w/clear outer sleeve for labels. Now I have something to keep all the backups in! Add free shipping and this is a good deal for +rw's. Bill
