Good point colest.
If you use a brand of disk that is giving you problems when a different brand didn't, the problem may be with the media.

Like colest said, sometimes you may think you are getting a great deal on media, only to find out that your burner does not work well with that brand.

I found that with my Tritton (Ricoh) 5125 I had best results when using Sony, Maxell, or Memorex media.

I tried some of the cheapies, and had problems either writing the disk or playing the disk in my players.

As soon as I exchanged the cheapies for one of the brands I mentioned, everything goes smoothly.

1.5.2 working great for me. I did notice it seems we got our speed back for riping with it.
Everything else seems the same as 1.5. Both nero and gear still working for me.

A little easier sailing the 1.5.2 waters than the last release thread, ya? 1.5.2 looks good so far.

Whisperer,
You said it!
This kind of response is what I'm always hoping for with each new release.. I'm really glad that it's working for most people!

321_QA,

In a previous post you stated that you sucesfully backed up all but 1 of the from the Earth to the Moon discs.

Which disc did you have a problem with, and what was the problem ?.

I'm guessing it was disc #4 which is all the extras. Disc 1 - 3 have 4 episodes apiece.

I believe that it was disk 3, but disk 4 sounds right also..

I'll have to go back and look through my notes in order to say for sure though..

I'll try and post today with what disk it was. If I don't get it posted today, I will tomorrow.

Whisperer - you mean you actually crawled out of the bunker and installed 1.5.2?

Did you try to remove the extras from "From The Earth To The Moon"? Sometimes what you think is an extra is really a "reference" title_set that your player needs to sort out playing the extras.

On the problem disk: does the movie play OK but not the extras(?) or is the whole bu disk a disaster? FTETTM is one of the few "TV shows" I did buy and I'd love to hear I could back it up. That set, with it's silver box, was expensive!

Not yet! Get back to the line and fight, you shirt! I'm busy, in my bunker, working on the invitation list to the Officer's Cotillion.

I never tried to back it up since I read awhile back that there were problems with it.
I was planning on doing the backups once I heard the problem was solved. That way I can back it up once to DVD-R's instead of a two step process of testing with -rw's first.

I just recently watched the episodes again, great show !!!!!

I already un-installed 1.5.0 & plan to install 1.5.2 tonight. I have a few things I want to test with the new version. Time to break out those -RW's again. Hopefully I won't see that disc fixation error again.

Of course the burns will be at 1x, not that I think it is better, but I'm too cheap to buy 2x at the current prices.

Ireland,

Did you upgrade from 1.5.0 ?.

I know you also have Roxio CD/DVD Creator 6. That being said, did you say yes to un-install the GearWorks drivers when it said they might be in use by another propgram ?. I'm assunming the other program was Roxio's DVD creator.

mwillett,
Depending on the burner you have, burning at 1x can definitely make a big difference in the compatibility of the disks that you burn.

It will not affect the playability when playing the disks on a PC, but it will on home players.

The slower speed will keep buffer underruns from happening which will help the disk play normally in the home players.

I'm totally with 321_Q/A on the 1x compatibility thing.

My burner is a Pioneer DVR-104 w 1.30 firmware.

I actually tried a 25pack spindle of Meritline 2x media & they all burned flawlessly & played on my Sony & Samsung players (Gear).

I use 1x simply because it is cheaper. In fact I don't even know what brand they are, or if they are the best cost. I just know they work & I don't feel like experimenting.

Whisperer,

I know you are adamant about 1x burns, my original comment was really just a dig at you.

I understand how it could be an issue, it just isn't with my hardware. Maybe I'm just lucky, or I found a winning combination.

Ireland,

When you un-installed 1.5.0, did you say yes to un-installing the Gear drivers ?. Even though the message said they might be in use by another program.

I did that & I wonder if it will cause a problem.

I guess I'll find out tonight.

Jaybo - He's still wearing the chicken suit as he indicated to me earlier. Waiting for the daring few to work any bugs out before the suit comes off.

mwillett - think you'll be fine. When I was prompted about Gear, I dumped them. 1.5.2 works like a champ so far.

MWILLETT,I found the burn depends on the split
point.removed in add remove and 321-program out of windows.did not touch the registry.
easy creator-6,did not cause any problems with 1.41,why should it cause a problem now.only
message i got in uninstall it said gear drivers ware uninstalled.
Whisperer, stay away from 1.51,there are bugs in it.

Can't wait to get home and try this out, I have had a bad time with 1.5. Just sucks that I have been here at work all day reading everyones posts, and I can not do any testing until I get home.
