Help! Cannot burn any DvDs...

Hello,

I'm new to the afterdawn board, so hi. I just recently bought the DvD X Copy and recieved it in the mail a few days ago. I was eager to install and burn a few DvDs.
I followed the directions and got to the point where 50% of the movie had been copied to my hard drive and ready to burn disk 1. I took out the DvD(Minority Report) and inserted the DvD+RW. The green light was shown and I was ready to go. I pressed the Copy Now button and the new screen came up and began to burn. It went for about 10sec and then a warning box came up. It said in the heading of the box: "Burn Failed!"... but then within the box it said: "Completed Successfully"! This is obviously a program error or something, but I am still confused about the reason why this isn't working. I tried with another DvD(Memento) and the same problem happened at the same spot!
I have read in some other threads I found in search that if you have other programs going on in the background, it could interfere. I also found a "black list", and a few of the programs on the list were on my computer. I deleted one, but I did not delete DirectCD by EasyCD Creator. I use DirectCD for making Audio CDs and want to keep this on my computer. I made sure I exited out of the DirectCD before trying to burn, but still no luck.
Also, I do have Norton AntiVirus on my computer, but I also made sure I disabled it. I cannot think of anything else wrong, except maybe the DirectCD or maybe it is because I am connected to a router in my house for cable internet. Do I need to unplug that too? Any help is appreciated, and I can give you guys more of my computer specs if it is needed.

Thanks in advance,

Brady Boyer

This program is for making LEGAL copies of movies you own, not for pirating copies of movies you rent. None of the more experienced people on this forum will assist you in doing illegal things.

What do you do with the new movies you copy?

In the original post, he said he "rented" the DVD (Minority Report). He does not own it. Since this is exactly what we have to watch out for, I will not offer asistance at this time.

Yes, it did say I rented... I had 2 movies at the time that I tried to copy. I was not aware that it was illegal to copy a movie rented and not distribute it.
I was asking you, glass, what you did with all the movies you copied. Do you want to have a backup copy just in case? Or do you give them to friends, etc.

I do have a DvD burner. I have a Memorex DvD+RW/R and a CD+R/RW right above that. My computer mainly is:

800mghz
512mb ram
Windows 98SE

I just downloaded something by adaptec or something that was a new ASPI... I read that somewhere you should do this because the Windows 98SE ASPI, whatever an ASPI does, is crappy...

Any more assistance would be helpful. I still would like to know how I can copy DvDs, so I didn't waste $99.99 . Also, is it true that the DvD X Copy program can copy DvDs that are scratched? I have a few that I would like to copy because they skip.

Thanks,

Brady

In my above reply I meant I thought it was not illegal to copy a rented movie, as long as I did not distribute it.

It is illegal to copy a rented movie. It is legal to make a backup copy of a movie you already own. 321 is in a huge legal dogfight with the MPAA right now over the legality of DVD X Copy. No one here will help you break the law and in so doing hurt 321 at the same time. Sorry.

My copies are used for when I fly and for watching in the cabin. That way, the originals stay safe in my house. Have a Sony player in the house, A Memorex (cheapie) in the cabin, and an Audiovox (portable) for traveling.

They are NEVER given to friends. Just don't want to lose the originals when I travel and got tired of bringing movies back and forth to the cabin.

So now that I am aware that I cannot copy rented movies. Although, I still would like to figure this problem out and be able to copy DvDs that I own or create.

I create DvDs for school and work, etc., with buddies of mine. We would like to copy these movies we made to give to friends and classmates of ours.

Maybe the reason it wouldn't work with the rented DvD because the rented ones have a copyright protection against it?

So any help would still be great.

Brady_SD...you're still not getting the point. DVDXCOPY was created to allow owners of dvd movies to back up their personal collection. It is not for the backing up of dvd's to be given away to family or friends. That is called pirating. We (DVDXCOPY users) believe in the premise of being able to legally back up what you physically and legally own. Not what you can borrow, rent or steal. And you don't need DVDXCOPY to copy dvds that you have made yourself. It's only purpose really is to be able to copy commercially made dvd movies that you own. The ones you make yourself could be copied just using the regular copy software you probably have that came with your dvd burner.

I am not sure what version came out of box that you got but seeing that you are runing win98 you need to be runing 1.4.1 of dxc. 1.4 offered 98 compatibility and 1.4.1 stablized it.

Well, darn. In any case, I would still like to figure out how to copy the DvDs I do own. Also, I have the newest version. It says on the box that it now supports Windows 98, ME, and XP...

If anyone else can help me figure out this problem, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks,

Brady

the box doesn't have the lastest copy (the one that supports Win98, v1.4.1)...download it and install it
