Has there been a date established for the release of the platinum edition? What month at least, are we looking at?

We should still be on target for release at the end of March. It may be pushed back due to all of the updates that we are adding into the software, but I would look to the end of March for the release.

If it changes, we will post the new date up here on the forum.

Seem to be unable to get V1.5 out the door don't think that I would worry about Platium version just yet.

what makes you say they are unable to get v1.5 out the door?

seems to me they are doing just fine with 1.5 which is currently in QA testing

I believe that you stated on this site it would be out this week after having been postponed from last week.

Sound like a schedule MISSED.

There never was a release date set for 1.5, so as far as we are concerned, we are still on schedule for this release and the Platinum release.

In an earlier post, I said that the Platinum version may be pushed back, but that is not the case as of yet. I just like to prepare people for the worst, so that if it does get pushed back, it won’t be a huge shock.

Software development is not something that you want to rush, and we are going to take the time to make 1.5 run the best for everyone.

Being a moderator on this forum, and an employee of 321 Studios, I sometimes estimate how long I think the developers will take to wrap things up with an update in order to give people on the forum a possible time for the update's release.

That does not mean that it will absolutely be released at that time.

The bigger the changes are that we make in the program, the longer it will need to be tested. That is the case with 1.5.

It's basically ready to go, but now it's in testing to make sure that it performs the way that we want it to.

Thanks for the update 321_Q/A. I'd rather have 1.5 tested, tested and re-tested before 321 releases it.

What some people might not understand is that during testing, if a problem is found, once the developers fix it, the testing cycle starts all over again.

Keep up the good work!

321,

"The bigger the changes are that we make in the program, the longer it will need to be tested. That is the case with 1.5"

I realize based on testing, some features may be dropped, but can you give us a list of what the "bigger" changes are, as well as the minor changes ?.

I have going thru support & was told that they were hoping the fix for backing up the James Bond movies would be part of the 1.5 release.

Can you confirm that ?.

Thanks,

mwillett,
I can't confirm that all James Bond movies will work in V1.5 but I do know that they have been working with a few bond movies as well as some of the other problematic movies. (Band Of Brothers, Sopranos, Simpsons)

As far as the bigger changes are concerned, V1.5 adds back the Internal Nero burning option. (so you will have all three options again)

The drivers have been updated for each of the burning engines, which should make a higher percentage of compatible disks.

The User Interface has been updated to be more intuitive and user friendly.

The appearance and behavior of the tutorial has been changed dramatically

The “Copy Now” and “Burn Now” buttons now call attention to themselves.

There are also a bunch of smaller fixes that I do not have all of the details on yet.

I am waiting for the 1.5 release to backup my James Bond movies ( NTSC ). I have all 3 sets, around 18 movies in total. I know they have a lot of extras, so I can see where the trouble is coming from. Can you tell me which ones you are testing with ?.

Rest assured I'll give detailed feedback if there are any problems.

"The drivers have been updated for each of the burning engines, which should make a higher percentage of compatible disks."

Will this be an automatic update or can I choose not to apply the updated drivers? My only concern is that my version of DXC (1.2.1) has been working flawlessly for me and I'm afraid new updated drivers might cause a problem...am I worrying about something I probably don't need to?

In the past I didn't use the internal Nero option since it wasn't compatible with my Samsung player. I'll have to retest with 1.5 to see if that has changed.

Does this mean that the "ISO/UDF" & "UDF" options will be back for Gear ?.

Is there any information on the Gear/Nero driver versions & what was changed with them ?.

TLH2,
Yes, you will need to update your drivers in order to use V1.5. The updated burning options also include new drivers for them.

If 1.2.1 is working well for you, then you do not need to update.

Have you tried any of the updates since V1.2.1?

Hans1004,
We don't still have V1.2.1 up on the FTP server, but all of the versions after that are available up there.

mwillett,
The Gear burning option is always set at ISO/UDF.

The External Nero option defaults to ISO/UDF, but it also gives you the option for just UDF as well.

Between the three burning options that we give, you should be able to make compatible disks.

Personally, with V1.5, my compatibility went up dramatically. I used to need to use the External Nero with straight UDF in order for the disk to play, but now I can use any of the options and it plays fine.

Are you a SW engineer? In v.1.3, I always used internal Nero and UDF. Can please tell me the resulting burn difference between ISO/UDF and UDF. Thanks

Best regards

Whisperer,
No, I don't develop the software, nor am I a software developer.

The difference between burning something ISO?UDF and regular UDF is the way that the DVD Player reads the disk.

ISO/UDF is the normal format for a DVD.
ISO is a format and UDF is a format.
Usually, the DVD player will lock onto one of these to play the movie.

In the case of backup DVDs, sometimes a player will have problems playing the disk when both formats are present. In that case, removing the ISO format usually makes the disk play.

Does that answer the question?

Ya, thanks. I've become so facinated by this whole DXC thing! Are there any job openings at 321? I want to quit my job and work for you guys but I'd probably have to move to MO. What's in MO anyway(?!), is it close to the border and you can all escape easily or something? Why set up in MO? If you win the suit, do you think 321 will be hiring? Will I have to bring my own gun?

Best regards

Whisperer, we have the Gateway Arch, the St. Louis Cardinals, The Rams and the Blues...what more else could you want? We have Riverport Theatre - REO and Styx recorded their double live CD there a few years ago. St. Louis is close to the Illinois border so you can go to the "East Side" - the natives know what I'm talking about...we have Riverboat casinos.

As far as being set up in Missouri, probably that's because Robert lives here and didn't feel like moving to make his product...

As far as bringing your own gun? Hmmm...I think side arms are standard issue at 321 Studios for new employees...2nd amendment issue - right to bear arms...hehehehe

Whisperer,
It seems that we are always looking for smart people who know their way around computers, hardware, software, and media.

As for St Louis, I like the city. It's a good place to live. You can leave your gun at home. Any real crime is pretty far away from where we are.

It's also a good place to run a business, which is why 321 Studios is here.

TLH2, You must live here and be over 21 if you know about the "East Side".. That is funny!

Our weather is bad a lot, but we do have good sports teams and most of the people here are nice.

321_Q/A, where did you go to high school?

Real St. Louisians will appreciate that...

East Side - heard about it but have never been there...I just can't see throwing my money away.

If I was in the market for a new job, 321 Studios would be the first place I'd send my resume to.
