I have a new dell computer which uses the nec 1100A dvd/cd burner combo. I have to use DVD+R or RW discs with it and I am using Verbatim DVD+R. I guess I am using the latest version of DVD X Copy because I just bought it. Is anyone else using this same configuration and having good luck playing back on their home dvd player? If so, what make and model dvd player are you using?

Unless your looking for a load of special features, Apex has a price performance ratio that's hard to beat - They play everything under the sun - I have 3 different models and they have played everything I have burned - VCD, MP3, DVD, Picture CD Too! - 1 thing, on a few of the backed up dvd's certain menus do not respond to the typical arrow buttons, but are accessible by number. i.e 4 choices on the screen - pressing 4 on the remote chooses the fourth option - Any one know why this happens?

Some Apex like my 3201 can not play latest dvdxcopy 1.3.1 backups when using other than gear+udf (default) burning options. However, gear+udf option produces "dirty disc" false error on certain movies whenplayed in Sony players. Therefore, in dvdxcopy 1.3.1 my Apex and my Sony are mutually exclusive.

I have another Sony that plays any dvdxcopy version/burning option and it is the Sony dvp-PQ1. It is less than $120, portable but it plays everything for me. However, you have a NEC and and I have an HP burner.

Rudy,I have copied about 100 titles with DXC,and have NEVER recieved "dirty disc" in any of my Sony players.Which movies give that message.I have most of the top titles.I burn with a Sony dru500a,and have used all types of media,as well as the Gear and Nero options.Myself,I don't like throwaway players, like Apex.I am willing to pay more to get quality. My newest player is a Sony CX875P,
which is a 300 disc changer.I also have Pioneer dv444 and dv454 models.They all play + and - R/RW media great.

I took some discs to Circuit City and tried different players. The Sony DVP-NS715P played every one no problem. Right around $200.

Sony seems to be in a conflict of interest issue. The sell the burners, players, and own the some of the music and movie movie rights....

As others have mentioned.. it seems that currently the later Sony models have the best compatibility record in recent times.

The DVP-NS715P has a very good track record from every User I have been in touch with and the new '300+1' Sony CX-875P (which I own myself) is simply superb though of course, not exactly the cheapest on the block!

So, I'd recommend the DVP-NS715P at around $170-$210 price bracket (shop around)... and if you have about $400 to spend (burn) then the '300+1' Sony CX-875P...

Cheers..

I have the same burner as you do and use Ritek DVD+R's, and a Sony DVP-NS400D. I also have an Apex AD-2500 which works great. Never had any problems at all.

I do have a question about this burner. I have never tried DVD-R's in this as someone said they don't work (even though they are supposed to). I use DVD+R's with great success.

DVD-R's are a whole lot cheaper, does anyone know if they work with the nec 1100A burner?

The NEC 1100 a in USA is only records on
DVD +r or DVD + RW's blank cd's...
I checked Dell's support site on this..
If you have an overseas model - can't help you there...

slday:
Read the setup instructions for the Sony - If you have an HDTV - you need to set up default mode for player- or else you will get letter boxed movies... I have had mine for 3 weeks and love it....

Just so everyone knows, if you get a Dell computer with the nec ND 1100A dvd burner it WILL NOT work with the -R media. I bought a memorix DVD-R disc and tried it as a test and the burner will not recognise it. The x copy software just comes back saying that the drive is not ready............

Apex 1500 or 1200 plays well...have both of them here... I swear the Apex would even play a WAFFLE if you stuck it in the drive :) Probably be a cooking show :)

Add my voice for the Sony. I have one and it will play anything I throw at it, including SACDs, which is nice.

Not a single disk I have copied with the Sony DRU500A, plus or minus, R or RW it hasn't been able to play.

Can't go wrong with the mid range Sony's, I feel.

Can anyone confirm that the Sony dvp-ns715p will play backups created with the default GEAR drivers?

well.....

I am using an RCA model 5240 and so far it will play everything I throw at it. It playes all the media (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, SVCD, VCD, CDR, CDRW, MP3, etc.).

It likes Nero using UDF format, or Gear using UDF or ISO/UDF formats.

Overall a very good player. Cost me $99 when I bought it (about 6 months ago). I think that they are still available.

I bnought the Sony DVD-NS315 recently. Works great with any burning option in 1.3.1. I have verified Gear burned movies w 1.4, but not Nero.

The NS315 is only $99 at Best Buy, not sure what is different/better about the dvp-ns715p everyone talks about.

The P - stands for progessive- Gives a fantastic picture on a digital TV - with 3:2 pull down and componet connections.- Meaning it gives a much better picture <enhanced> - but if you don't plan on getting an HDTV - you will once you see it ............

if you can find it:

apex 500

its the dvd player that started it all... i had to open her up and add a fan on the mobo to keep it from overheating as this was the case with the first get apex...

its a Region 10 player (access through remote) and plays just about anything i burn...
