NO GO with Platinum here either. It reads the DVD fine but will not burn after the read. Also, all options are greyed out and DVD burner settings are corrupted. I have used all versions of DVD X Copy & Express and this is the first time I have run into any problems.

One bug: on several DVDs when you preview the first video file, no video window pop ups. The program just hangs and you need to control-alt-delete to close it.

Question: I, like others have mentioned, have read that there were to be ways to select the soundtracks and subtitles you want. I can't figure out how this is done. When I select a titleset, it tells me that one video and no audio file was selected, but I don't see any settings which allow you to pull what you need and leave out what you don't want.

Also, the video titles are not really named at all, so it's not clear what they are. Also, some titles seem to bring the same preview, which I assume is how DVDs are set up.

I guess this all comes down to this: has a manual been created for Platinum? I searched around but can't find out. There seems to be no online help, so I assume somewhere, there is some documentation as to run the program.

Finally, on the cosmetic side, when you run the program there are buttons on the left side and a wide open area on 80% of the window. Aesthetically, there is so much open space that it looks like something went wrong. I would redesign the initial display window.

But that's just me ...

Selecting audio tracks to be removed will be updated later, this was told to us at the conference. And yes you have to select next to write disk after the read.Maybe they can fix this or maybe there is a reason for it.I have backed up 3 so far and looks good.

I just downloaded and intalled Platinum, and its working fine. So far, I have been able to copy two of my previously problem DVDs. I don't have a problem, just a question. Since Platinum duplicates the capabilities of both DXC and Xpress, is there any reason not to uninstall these other two programs?

Counsel from more experienced users is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

well, I cant get platinum to do anything....I have tried it on two different computers and I get the same error...(Error: This Video_TS.IFO doesn't contain any file) The program then locks up requiring a control, alt delete to close it in task manager. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks...

I uninstalled both programs before installing Platinum. Assuming it works, it seems to completely replace both older programs. I know that there will be issues for a few versions, but I am confident that it will be worked out quickly.

I think 321 should have waited a bit longer to release this as it's obvious this software is not complete yet.

I've tried 3 different times to copy a movie but it doesn't seem to see the dvdr drive. It never tells me that it's found blank media and ask me if I want it to automatically burn to this media. I've got the correct dvd recorder selected in the software and I also made sure it was correct in the "drive select."

I too am unable to pick and choose options like they say we would be able to do. Also, after having the software read 3 differenct movies it doesn't seem to be any faster than xpress. It took over 30 minutes just to read a movie. It took that long with xpress.

Platinum will not burn any DVD's at all. I have a Sony dru500 attached to firewire and platinum will not recognize any media I put in it. Also if I put a previously used DVDRW in the writer and a dvd movie in my dvdrom drive platinum chooses the DVDRW to process.

I have no problems using DVDXCOPY and DVDXPRESS.

I have downloaded and installed Platinum. It appears to not be working properly, but then again, how would I know - there are no instructions! But I have noticed that:

1. the Simple Mode (Express) appares to work - for now - it read a CD (Man With Two Brains) in about 30 minutes and is now writing it. It looks like it will take ablout 30 minutes to do that, and then I can check to see if it really worked. Who knows? Maybe it will

2. The Advanced Mode bombs every time. I notice that there is no menu option - greyed out or otherwise - for the TDF option. It just is not there. There are no audio optios, and although I can see the three sets (chapters?) on the disk, I can select only one of them or the default (I guess) all of them. The compression tool is greyed out, no matter what I do. When I tell the program to start to record it "reads" the DVD in less than a second. Then it asks for the blank to write to, and reports completion in another second or so. Of course, the "copy" is totally unreadable.

Was this program tested at all? Where is the manual? How does it work? How SHOULD it work? Why is the TDF option not even present? Ditton on the audio options. Why is compression unavailable (or does it automatically turn "on" depending upon the size of the data files to be copied?)

I was using xpress and it worked very well except for the 99% issus.. However today I upgraded to platinum and installed it along with xpress 3.0.2.

When I started platinum everything appeared to be working until I selected advanced mode. Then it would let me select the chapters etc. but it would not give me the option to preview, compress or burn.. It seemed to be completely grayed out except for occasionally it would allow me to select preview movie.. although it would not actually preview the movie.

SOOOOOOOOO, back to xpress to see if it was still working and it appeared to be working ok.. SOOOOOOOOO then I figured that maybe I needed to reinstall platinum as it was not working with the first install.. sooooooooo i uninstalled platinum and reinstalled it..

NOW I cant get premium or xpress either one to even list my drives in the select drive box.. SOOOOOOO WTF is wrong now??

AT least before I installed Platinum I was able to use xpress and it worked well.. NOW I cant use eiter of them...

Now when I run express it doesnt even come up on my screen, but on examination in Windows/task manager/processes it shows that it is running.. HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I had Xpress which was working and added platinum at a $80 additional expence to have TWO PROGRAMS AND NEITHER OF THEM WILL WORK NOW!!

The tdf ortion and booktype option is under settings not under advanced. For compression to turn on you have to put check in box next to title set(s) of your choice. I think the next patch will be for tdf and booktype options to function.

The choice of what audio and what chapters and the like to keep and to get rid of will be at a later date I would think. I remember reading in chat with prez threed that there was a few things upcoming that Robert would have liked to see in this version.

I am just glad to see it on the market at last. The more homes it is in the better odds for legalaty.

For me, what features are available in Platinum work fine. It reads from the dvd-rom and the burner. Simple and advanced work. The discs play in my PC and settop.

The preview works, as well as the titleset compression.

All available feratures work fine.

However, I want cell compression (which is coming), I want the TDF Editor, and I want to be able to browse my hard drive for files.

All the features I want are greyed out or non-existant.

Why can we preview titlesets, but not the chapter split point?

Why can both DXC and DXCX go automatically into the burn, but not Platinum?

Why when I go into the settings can I not go right back into the advanced section? Instead after I adjust the settings and click advanced DXP starts the whole "recognize the blank" scenario all over again.

You will most likely have to reinstall the vso drivers again for xpress after you uninstall platinum. Might be best to just uninstall xpress and then install it again after rebooting.

To answer acouple questions:
The compression tab is not available unless the title sets you selected go over the size of a DVD+/-R(W). If you are over the size and unselect "Use compression" the compression tab turns to a "split" tab to span the movie to 2 discs instead.

Yes, selecting "Simple" mode is just another term for XPRESS. It will launch the xpress application.

I also can not see the video when trying to preview, it gives an error without playing.
And yes, the software does seems to not be finished. Hopefully this wide area beta will allow things to be corrected shortly. :)

Hello all, Weel i've got platinum and it works very well for me. I noticed a disturbing fact though. I compressed "Bringing Down The House" with several programs (DvdXcopy express 2.52, DvdX Copy Platinum,Dvd Shrink beta 5, and Dvd2One)I wanted to compare quality. When i noticed that platinum was the only program that only used 4.12 gigs total output. All the other programs used 4.35 gigs total output. I am assuming that the higher output will give you less compression. I would like Platinum to use all available space on my DVDs. By the way the preliminary comparison of the movies favors DvdXCopy Express vers 2.52 and Shrink slightly over the rest

OK. First time on any chat room or forum. I have been using DVD xCopy since ver.1, (Last November) and all the updates since, without a problem. Same for DVD Copy Express. No problems.
Downloaded Platinum and WHAT? It will not burn anything I give it. If I use compression under advanced, the program immediately kicks out saying it can't read the DVD. If I do not use compression on the same DVD movie, Platinum will read the DVD, but refuses to burn the blank disc. If I use Simple, entire disc read, it kicks out with saying it can't read the disc. If in Simple, I do not check entire disc read, Platinum will read the disc but again refuses to burn a new disc. It does kindly tell me the burn was complete, despite not recording anything. This is NOT the kind of program everyone comes to expect from Mr. Moore. I think there is a saboteur. Yes, I've read about a "buggy" download, need to download again, which I did, and it still doesn't do even the basic operations of reading and burning. I have been trying 3 different movies, all episodic in nature, since Platinum was supposed to handle these. Thanks to anyone who can tell me what the problem is.

I got the free upgrade for Platinum and if I use my 16xdvdrom to read it freezes up, but works if I have it read from the burner, though the lack of options make it not a choice I will use for when I need compression to fit it on 1 disc.

I paid for X copy and it works so for 1:1 backups I'll use my X -copy but when I need to compress it to fit onto 1 disc I will use other available software for now till they add more choices and options to platinum and make it a better program then it is right now. had high hopes but its does not give more enough control over the process like I thought it would.
hopfully they will keep working on it till its better.

Anyone out there able to burn discs to an external usb drive? I have a TDK 440N drive and can't get platinum to burn any discs. Have spent hours talking to tier two techs and nothing seems to work.

Thanks,

other available software you say?
you also say you bought xcopy. you did not mention express. did you know that you have "other available software" built into plat?
if you chose simple mode you get express and the option for entire disc as well. if you have reasons for not using this then ok. I just want to be sure you know you have other options within plat.

Wholigan,
In the Platinum folder find a file named PcSetup.exe. Click on it. Do those same ascii characters show up when you expand the + next to Patin-Couffin?

If they do see: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/39809

I have not worked with this program, so no gaurantees on that solution.

Thanks,
Conrad

IS IT ME OR MEDIA

Well as you can all tell I am very new to this product I never owned DVD xpress although I did download the trial before I shelled out 150.00 for Platinum this is the type of problem I am having.

I was able to copy with only 2 mouse click 3 DVD's LOR Twin Towers, Insomnia, Life as a House And play them in my computer, Apex 5131 DVD player and the playstation.

I used Philips 2.4x DVD +RW media BUT if I use any other media I get a free frisbee. I have tried Fujifilm DVD +R (makes my DVD Player just click) and I tried COMPusa 2.4x DVD +RW (says Disk error on my Apex) All of the media copies and burns in less that an hour with no problems but when I go to play it back NO LUCK. my question is does the Media really matter that much. I see others with succuss on DVD +R media but I have no luck I also agree with the others on Platinum being new at this whole burnning DVD thing I could use a good book on how to use the software, what is a tile set, how do I get audio tracks and TDF files etc... well maybe that is yet to come

Processor (P4 2Ghz)
OS (WinXP Pro SP1)
Motherboard (Abit i845E-W83627HF)
Installed RAM (256 MB RAM)
Hard drive (120 Gig Western Digital)
ROM Drives (Optorite DD0203 / Ver 2.17)
Software (DVD X Copy Platinum 3.0) (Nero 6,0,0,11)
