I don't think I'd be too comfortable with not being able to download any patches; I'd read those links pjaques offered. On the subject of slowdowns after SP1 installed for XP- PC World reports there is a patch- but in usual Micro$oft fashion- you have to call them to get it- unreal. Number given is 800-936-5700. Hope that helps a little- igortwo

update has now been fixed,it is back in the critical update section of windows update,i have downloaded it,works fine

Microsoft is usually not in the habit of releasing the same hot fix twice. If they fix a problem in a hot fix like Q811493, they generally release a totally new hot fix. I suspect that if you re-applied Q811493 and are not having a problem, then one of the recent hotfixes that was released after the original Q811493 fixed the problem.

you could be right,it's funny none of the websites like bink nu ,which keep an eye on things like that have not mentioned that it is back on critical list,even neowin,anyway they are having with a 12 year old kid who keeps shutting down their site,how they know it is a 12 year old kid i do not know

According to the XP support site, Microsoft did reissue an updated version of Q811493 on May 28 to address the XP slowness. I had the slow down problem with my XP Home Edition system and after I installed the updated Q811493 system response is back to normal.
