Gawd! ... I thought MO was Montana! You know, horse maneur, renegade indians, wide open spaces with buffalo a-roamin and stuff. I guess no job for me based on stupidity quotient. You're just city boys!
Best regards

Whisperer, now I get your gun reference... Montana is MT...I guess we could be considered "city boys" by country people but we're in St. Louis County (not the city) so I guess that makes up "county boys"...

TLH2,
I went to one of the Parkway schools. (out west)
That is SO one of the St. Louis things though..
That's funny!
Whisperer,
No, LOL!
I think we are the 10th biggest city in the US.
I could be wrong about that, but I seem to remember that from the news not to long ago.
I know there are spots in Missouri like what you thought St. Louis was like. (probably is in every state though)
Honestly, I've only seen a few horses here, and those have been with police on their backs. We're DEFINATELY NOT like Montana or anything like what you are thinking. (at least St. Louis)

Small world, isn't it...

321,
You might have missed my question in all the posts. What James Bond movies did 321 test with for the 1.5 release ?.
Based on the time/date, I assume we shouldn't expect 1.5 till next Monday ?.

mwillett,
I'm sorry about that!
Two disks that I know that they have been doing some testing with are:
Tomorrow Never Dies (Special Edition)
Goldeneye (Special Edition)
We are still planning on getting the James Bond 007 Special Edition DVD Collection (box set) in order to test those as well.
As far as the release of 1.5, I would say that it will be released next week sometime.
We try not to release anything after Thursday so that we have a full staff to respond to the calls/emails regarding the new release. So I won't say a specific date/day, but I would bet on the middle of next week.

Just so you know, there are 2 different James Bond DVD sets. The first set, volume #1, #2 & #3, are all inclusive (around 18 discs). Recently they released a 6 disc set which has a few from each of the 3 original volumes. Why they did that, I don't know. I believe the discs are the same though.
Any update on the "From the Earth to the Moon" set. I have read posts about problems backing these up. Actually I'd like to backup these first since they were specifically identified as one of the potential discs with the "DVD rot" problem.
How about the MASH sets ?. I have season #1 & #2, plus #3 is out now.
Hopefully 321 gets some type of bulk discount for buying discs.
I can't see 321 employess sitting aroynd watching movies in their entirety to test them. Do you use temps to watch the backups to make sure they are OK ?. Sounds like a nice easy job !!!
Thanks,

I see that a psot was made today from 321 that Platinum will be out by end of March. Does this mean no updates until then?

tgaynor,
No, we will be releasing updates to the program between now and then. Platinum will be the first major Upgrade though.

mwillett,
The job that you are talking about is mine.
I am Director of Quality Assurance here at 321 Studios.
I rarely get to watch a whole movie, (start to finish) but I do get to see bits and pieces..
Usually, since we know what to look for, I know within the first 30 seconds if the copy will play correctly all the way through or not. I still flip through the chapters and test the features and menus of the backup.
Back to the main part of your post, "From the Earth to the Moon" and the MASH box set will still most likely give the program problems since they are episodic disks. We have not tested with either movie as of yet, so I am not sure that it will.
Have you tried them both yet?

OK… Lay off the Gateway City. The BEST sports town in World. The only place where you can get a decent pork steak (A St. Louis thing)
Born and raised here, and working on the other side of 270 by Highway FORTEY!! (Another St. Louis thing)
It’s all good in the STL…

I noticed in one of the earlier responses to this thread that one of the Mods stated 321 was working on Band Of Brothers in version 1.5, but they never mentioned whether it was going to actually work in this version or not. So, I hate to repeat the question, cause I know you ehar it all the time, but is version1.5 going to back-up Band of Brothers? Thanks for your time and terrific product!

321,
I haven't tried to backup "From the Earth to the Moon" or "Mash" since I have read of problems in various posts.
If you think I should try with 1.5, I can break out the few DVD-RW discs I have.
QA director, interesting. I have spent my last 5+ years working for a QA director. I administer the Rational tools, if you are familiar with that.

fanch16,
We do not have it working with Band of Brothers 100% yet. I think we still have a problem with one of the disks.
I think that 1.5 will be better for episodic disks, but as we are finding, the fixes for the episodic problems are much harder to get working without messing up what happens with a different episodic disk.
So to be safe, I will say, I don't think 1.5 will do the Band of Brothers 100% perfect, but I think you should be able to get most of the disks done.

How do you obtain the movies and tv movies that you test? Do the major hollywood studios give DXC a complimentary copy to help be sure we will get a good backup?(yuk!) Maybe users could be a source of test material. ...NOT me though ... I don't let NO one borrow my movies!
"From the Earth to the Moon" is a really worthy production. It'd be nice if you could test that one.
Best regards

Whisperer,
We buy all of the movies that we test with.
We have had many customers offer to send us their movies to do testing with, but we feel that that is not in our best interest to go that route, and that buying the movies is the best way to go.
We will be getting more problem movies soon, so I will add "From the Earth to the Moon" to the list.

321 Q/A: If platinum allows us to copy any disk to one blank, does that mean episodic disk problems will go away?

just out of curiosity, how big is the 321 DVD collection?

mikemary,
That I'm not sure of. We do not have it ready yet, and we are actually still working on what features to include, or not. I will know more when I have the application to test.
Once I do, I will post what I find out.

-LD,
I'd estimate that we have 50-60 movies here.
We don't have a huge collection because we don't buy movies that DXC copies correctly. The ones that we usually get are the DVDs that people are have problems with.
